Tom's Lyme Regis
Taste of the food was really good, just a few key aspects of the whole dining experience left us feeling quite disappointed.
Cocktails ordered at same time as mains. Drinks arrived shortly before mains, we were 2nd/3rd only table in so cannot understand why martini and Bloody Mary took 15-20 minutes to prepare.
Sole meunière was swimming in gloopy oily mess - exacerbated by high edge plate so that when potatoes & greens sides were added to plate they too were unpleasant. Kitchen kindly re-plated and fish was then enjoyable. Further down the bowl of greens side some things were still raw and cold.
Lobster main (half) was cooked lovely, as was the sauce it accompanied.
2 glasses of White Rioja went down a treat too but resuming cocktails after finishing mains seemed back to front.
Service a bit hit and miss and staff seemed distracted with other tasks as tables began to fill up. Attentive when engaged, but effort to get their attention at times.
£109 bill for 2 adult mains, 1 child main, soft drink, 2 cocktails and 2 medium glasses of wine. Failings in the quality of the food and service didn’t render us feeling we got good value for money. No problem paying more when the quality is in sync with the prices. Was expecting the experience/quality/cost to be on par with nearby Hix.
Unlikely to return sadly.
We were given a table outside as we insisted.
Most of staff were welcoming and friendly.
Food … not as good as it’s claimed.
They do not have ketchup or mayonnaise which all customers asked and they offer “homemade” tomato sauce instead which is far from ketchup.
They have “fish and chips” as expected at seaside restaurant and these two sauces are most popular to be asked?!
I don’t think I’d go back.
Amazing ! Can’t wait to go back ! Thoroughly recommend ! 🙌💯❤️
Service pleasant but a bit haphazard. We were offered the option of our young kids sharing a steak, but then had to divide the meal ourselves between them. They also received the medium rare steak not the medium which was ordered for them. Drinks orders were not taken for the whole table before the wait staff disappeared.
Food was ok but poor value, given the price tag.
Excellent food, good size portions. Staff all friendly and helpful lovey ambience
The scallops starter and the halibut main courses were fantastic. Home made bread rolls fresh and warm. Staff friendly.
Just fantastic. We’ve been coming down to Lyme regis for years now and Tom’s is certainly one of the best restaurants here. We have the steak and the sole, both were great. The best starter was the scallops! Great service too! Everyone was so friendly and attentive and made us and our little baby feel so very welcome!
The entrance is slightly unclear (and confusing) as the large open patio doors appear to be the main entrance, whereas it is in fact at the side of the building, through a door labelled to something like 'Grand Apartments'. I wasn't the only person caught out like this!
The service was excellent and the food was really good. I enjoyed myself immensely! My only suggestion would be a little more explanation of the menu (e.g. what the catch of the day was) and a Specials Board might be a nice addition. I can see the reasoning behind keeping a small menu (and doing everything brilliantly, which they do) but the menu seemed to miss options in the middle of the price range. The cheapest main was £18 and the next was £32, so something in between the two might not go amiss.
Good food all really fresh and tasty. I had risotto and my husband had catch of the day, both really delicious. Staff efficient and friendly, would definitely return to try other dishes. Very good value for money. I would definitely recommend eating out here.
Delicious food, all cooked perfectly. The cocktails are excellent and the staff are all friendly, attentive and want to work there which so many places in Lyme Regis unfortunately lack. Highly recommended.
A very relaxed time at Tom's - delicious food, friendly service and the wonderful view of the beach and sea.
A very nice meal lovely service yes I would go back
Food was great, sun was shining and. New Zealand Sauvignon was delicious. Thank you
Probably the best meal I've had in the last 5 years. The food was cooked and presented to perfection. The service was faultless. Everything came together on a warm summers day. I can find nothing to criticise. I will return
Excellent food and service. Catch of the day was lovely and available as a gluten free option.
Didn’t think that cod went well with carrot purée. Cod does not have much flavour so needs a tastier recipe. Scallops and pea purée excellent
Very limited menu. Not enough fish on the menu and what was there was sold out .at 7.30 ie Sole Menuier. However the staff were exceptional especially Bianca. So attentive and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble.
Excellent quality ingredients with an original approach. Local produce, beers and ciders with some higher end wine and spirit choices if you want them. Very polite, attentive and obviously well trained service without being obsequious . Convivial atmosphere with the efficient hum of the kitchen in the background. All in all a very enjoyable, tasty and hassle free lunch for two adults and two children.
See you again soon!
A lovely place to eat. The food was absolutely lovely, we really enjoyed our visit. Wouldn’t hesitate to return next time we’re in Lyme - thoroughly recommend!
Tom's was our top-rated, standout dining event on a recent trip to Lyme Regis. The staff were warm, attentive and polished, the food absolutely excellent and the ambience welcoming and relaxing. An absolutely unmissable dining experience when you're in town.
Absolutely fantastic seafood restaurant. We really enjoyed our experience, the food was amazing and the service was great. I was also very impressed with the cocktails. I hope to return soon!
We had an absolutely amazing experience here for our last night in Dorset on holiday. The food was fabulous and so so delicious! We had three courses and we're stuffed afterwards. The service was outstanding, the staff were friendly, attentive and very knowledgeable. Overall one of the best meals out I've ever had!
So glad we managed to get a table at this restaurant. The food was amazing . The staff and ambience was great. Loved every minute of our time there and a shame that we won’t be back for a while
The food was delicious and served without any fuss or great ceremony. The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly and the service was excellent. My wife and I particularly liked the monkfish in chicken butter sauce.
Can’t fault food or service, and what a view, thank you :)
The food is always delicious, the fish tastes so fresh. The view is stunning and the staff very friendly.
My first time in Dorset/Devon.
Tom’s was absolutely great- locatiom, service, food- the freshness 😍
Excellent varied menu, and fresh fish, particularly like the monkfish sauce and seasoned potatoes, definitely go there again.
Lovely atmosphere, great food, would definitely recommend
Lovely fish and everything that came with it was good
Looking at options on line to eat in Lyme Regis were we had never been before, we liked the menu and location. It was easy to book via Open Table. We chose inside but there would have been better views outside - but colder. The food was excellent, I've never had better scallops and the service was efficient with no long waits which we had experienced in other restaurants in other places (including the hotel we were staying in). It was expensive and not ideal for those on a tight budget but we were aware of that when viewing the menu online.
Very enjoyable and good food. Service a bit slow but very pleasant.
Fabulous venue overlooking the beach at Lyme bay. We were made to feel very welcome by the staff who were kind enough to accommodate us outside for drinks and then inside for our meal. Food was delicious! We had a memorable evening, thank you.
Fantastic food and great service. Would definitely return.
Warm friendly welcome. The best steak we have ever eaten. Attentive staff that weren't intrusive. We have already recommended to friends family and Kersbrook guest house where we are staying.
Not cheap but worth the expense, service superb, food and wine equally good, the best Sole we've ever eaten
Great evening as always…. Staff are super friendly and professional, Toms menu is small but we have tried nearly all the dishes and have never been disappointed. Has fantastic views over the bay. Best place to eat in Lyme Regis.
Thanks so much Tom and Rob!

I first went to Tom's when he started in the pop up kitchen and I must say that he's doing an excellent job running his own fantastic restaurant right on the seafront.
I have been recommending that my Airbnb guests book for a meal whilst staying with me but I will now be able to tell them how good it really is. I had oysters, monkfish and cherry & chocolate desert along with a very nice bottle of Chardonnay.
I will definitely be going back as soon as I can for another long, delicious lunch.
Well done Tom and his team
Lovely meal at Tom's. All the food was good quality, the staff were welcoming and attentive - especially great with our toddler who loved the interaction. View from table at the front was gorgeous. We had a great evening!
OK but not as good as the other 4 dining exoeriences we had during our stay in Lyme yet it was the most expensive. As such it wasn't good value, our cocktails took so long to arrive that we had them with the seafood platter rather than wine. We had to then ask for the wine list. Lobster served without claw crackers, picks, also no lemon on a platter of mixed seafood. No serving cutlery so we had to use the forks we were eating with on a shared food platter, never good but especially not during Covid-19 pandemic. The overly bright lighting, formica tables and macrame and paintings for sale gives a cafe feel at higher end restaurant prices.
