Toy Soldier Happy Hour

The restaurant was closed when we got there with no sign of life. Not sure what happened. Maybe Coronavirus.
I love the vibe of Belden Place and all the different restaurants in this hidden alley. Toy Soldier has a nice variety on their menu -- a little something for everyone, plus tasty cocktails. We made a group reservation on the same night as a private party so we were set up off to the side. I was a little nervous about that and yet we still received excellent service and accommodation. The food is amazing. It's a great spot for a big group or even a dinner for two.
Service was slow as the restaurant became more busy.
This was a very neat location in an alley which altogether made a nice ambiance for Valentine’s Day. The food was phenomenal and the service was friendly and helpful
Great food, friendly staff when they actually show up. Went for restaurant week like it. Took new friends there but they complained about the service.
Not a good first experience for a work meal. Item we wanted was out (around noon), dirty silverware, one of our entrees was “forgotten,” cold fries, cold salmon, cold food in general.
Arrive 15 minutes before our reservation.
The host told us to sit anywhere that we like. The restaurant was quite empty on a Saturday night but I’m sure it’s not always that busy in the financial district on the weekends.
We placed our orders. I went for the crab spaghetti (yummy) and hubby ordered the Fred Fried Chicken ( he said
It was ok). The waiter seemed a bit tired. He literally just dropped our basket of bread on the table as he walked by to serve the other table. However he did perk up at the end of meal and offered recommendations to local bars in the area.
The drinks were on point too! Would love to go back during the week during happy hour for a better vibe.
The wait was longer than an hour. We were pretty starving by the time the food came.
Came for lunch with a group of 4 and took nearly 2 hours. Appetizers came out quick, main course took much longer, to the point we were going to ask what took so long, and dessert was timely. Had to ask for the check because we did not expect to take so long.
Great vibe and the staff was lovely. Enjoyed the food, well done. I'll be going back for Happy Hour!
The wait staff and manager do not have the knowledge, organization or communication skill sets to properly serve in a San Francisco restaurant. Rude without any customer service awareness. This lunch was an embarrassment for me as the host. I will never go back and will warn everyone I know to avoid this restaurant. I would go hungry rather than set foot in Toy Soldier again.
Group went for lunch. Host greeted us and seated us upstairs which we had all to ourselves (good for conversation). Orders included salmon sandwiches, burgers, beef stroganov, chicken sandwich. All good. Quick efficient service. Would go again.
The table was ready when I arrived about 5 minutes early. Service was timely and friendly. The roasted shrimp salad was very good..
Piece of fish on sandwich was very small, so it was mostly bread😩
While the food tasted great and our server was extremely nice, the amount of time it took us to get our food was unreal! After waiting over an hour, they brought 6 of the 8 dinners out. In then took an additional 30 min to bring the other 2 dinners out, which were just burgers!
Not sure if they were short staffed, they did give us 2 bottles of wine for free which was very nice.
Great food, nice staff, but hopefully the wait time for food was a one off situation!
The service was terrible. We were embarrassed since it was a business lunch.
I like their atmosphere with European street style.
Food and service was good. There was a private party upstairs so we didn't get seated up there, it looked as though that would have been better ambiance.
Brussel sprout Caesar salad was surprisingly amazing, I want to go back just for that. Chill vibe, outdoor seating is a bit casual but my Canadian guests loved the vibe.
Great food. Best chowder I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to go back
Very good food. Nice and quiet down the alley. Staff was awesome. My sandwich was top 10 all time!
We all go various sandwiches and they were good, but nothing to really go back for. We loved their appetizers so I would definitely go back for drinks and apps. Maybe their entree's are better?
Great food! Cool atmosphere.
It’s my go to in Belden place. Good is great and so is service
Birthday dinner upstairs with a group of 8. We felt like we were well taken care of and the food was quite good. I especially enjoyed the short rib and crab pasta dish.
The Brussels sprout salad is amazing! Food, location, people are great.
Despite having reservations, it seemed as if patrons were herded in and the host, who stood outside, seemed like a carnival barker.
Waiter did not pay full attention to our orders.
Food adequate, liked by the others with me than myself
Food was very poor. I ordered a veggie burger which effectively was mashed up black beans with some spices. The patty was absolutely disgusting - mushy, lukewarm, and just a really bad flavor. I can appreciate having this on the menu, but man if you're going to put anything on the menu at least make sure it's edible. I've had probably a hundred veggie burgers all over the world and I think this is the worst one I've tried.
Service was great.
We will make Toy Soldier a restaurant to come back to during our future trip to San Francisco. My husband had beef stroganoff dish. Our friend & I ordered the sea bass. Our main course choices were beyond our expectations. We also were lucky to be at the restaurant before 6 pm for the Taco Tuesday and drink specials. We made the fish & pork belly Taco specials our mini appetizer. We ended our meal with the corn Creme brûlée and raspberry sorbet dessert. This is a meal that will come up in our San Francisco restaurant recommendations.
Food is good to very good. The range of selections is excellent. The list of starters offers many good options. I would recommend Toy Soldier as a good choice for drinks and bites with friends.
It took us about 8 minutes to get greeted. Everyone that worked there just kept walking past us without acknowledging we were standing at the door. We ordered 2 cocktails and they were awful, we should’ve just selected a wine from their 1/2 off bottle of wine list. The food was just ok and definitely wasn’t worth the pricing. Overall this place has a lot of improvement to do before charging at the price range that they are currently at.
For happy hour I'd recommend this, but they were understaffed for dinner and out of popular items.
Great service! They went out or thier way to make our evening special.
Good but a bit overpriced!
Went with team for Business lunch. Efficient service. Good food. I ordered and ate the crab melt which was very tasty. Others had burgers and salad, both good. Outdoor seating.
They sat us outside on a lovely day, but crammed us next to a couple when the entire patio was open. We had a fairly large group so there was a lot of apologies as each of us tried to squeeze in. Not the best planning!
This place is the best. The food is amazing! Anytime I order I’m never disappointed! Service is always great as well!
I met a friend here for dinner and made it 10 mins before the end of happy hour. We ordered 2 crispy pork belly tacos and the deviled eggs for appetizers - both delicious. For dinner I ordered the fresh dungeness crab spaghetti. The plate had a generous amount of dungeness crab meat - some in chunks and some shredded. It was a little spicy but delicious. I would come back to eat the spaghetti again. The restaurant was a little busy but the service was attentive and friendly.
Food was good, service was so so. We had requested upstairs but were sited downstairs. Rather loud but the food was good. Bar service was slow and we were never ask if we wanted a second drink.
