Great casual bistro with a wide menu of Italian inspired dishes.
We ordered entrees and our main meal came out before the entree. I had gluten free garlic bread and I got brought store sliced bread. I am sure that you can get gluten free bread from a proper bakery that make good quality gluten free bread. Sorry but the service needs improvement and maybe add more variety to your menu
We booked at Trotters before seeing a movie at the international film festival, so we were time restricted.
Initially it was very loud (and busy) but our table was upstairs and it was much quieter.
The waitress was attentive without being intrusive. The food was absolutely delicious and catered for my intolerances easily.
I wouldn’t hesitate to go back, happy with everything including the pricing.
Trotters is a fantastic restaurant. The food and service are superb, the location is fabulous and the restaurant is cosy. I thoroughly enjoyed my night there.
Italian in Lygon St, Carlton and it could have been so much better. Decorated with a collection of pig toys everywhere should have been a sign. Service was friendly, quick and very accommodating but the food was average at best. Stick to pizza and pasta - and do it very well. Loose the hamburgers. There are so many fabulous restaurants in Melbourne so the bar is very high. We only visited for the weekend and I feel like we wasted a meal.
I have eaten at Trotters a number of times before, alone or with one companion. This time there were supposed to be four of us but it turned out to be three. We arrived a bit early but our table was ready. Service was excellent and the food likewise. I had the gnocchi with pumpkin (for the third or fourth time) and it was excellent as always. My companions both had the osso bucco, which they enjoyed. It was quiet enough to hold an animated conversation, but without any sense that our neighbours could hear it too. A very pleasant place to eat - especially compared with some of the noisier, over-crowded and over-priced places nearby. And they happily split the bill three ways on cards!
most delicious meal we have had - mushroom fettucine - divine!
Good meal, however nothing spectacular.
We tried the pizza and the gnocchi. The seafood pizza unfortunately had a soggy base, but was still tasty. Nothing bad but it seems that the standard has dropped somewhat from my last visit more than 3 years ago.
French waitress was absolutely intriguing. Very humorous and entertaining. The meal was lovely as was the wine.
Good experience, very accommodating. The only problem was it was loud down stairs. The food was excellent with tasty vegetarian options, you can see why this place still holds its own on Lygon.
Very good food and excellent value. BYOW is a big plus .
Upstairs was very quiet, a prized feature for us as most restaurants are far too noisy. Although you have to be fit to get up all the stairs. Nice atmosphere downstairs too. We love it 'cause its so close to the Nova Cinema and the food is great.
Second time and still good. Will go again. A really nice atmosphere. We were upstairs which was great as we had two friends so our table of 4 was great.
As always we were very well fed and looked after. Staff work very cheeefully and efficiently together.
Thank you Trotters.
Went and three of the mains were unavailable. Asked if there were any specials and were told the chef didn’t really feel like it tonight. Asked if he felt like cooking any of the other food on the reduced menu as it didn’t really sound like too much effort was going to be put into that either.
Servers were a little scattered. Overall a pretty weird vibe and a lack of effort and care.
Good food at reasonable prices, pleasant and efficient service in a comfortable setting where low noise level allowed easy conversation with those diagonally opposite as well as directly opposite. What more could one want?
I remember about 20 years ago when Trotters had a great vibe, as well as great food. Having eaten there twice in a month I can say that the food is still excellent, but the ambience is nothing like what it used to be. They play terrible music that is impersonal and adds no vibe at all The service very inconsistent and not particularly friendly. It used to be like a home away from home. Warm and inviting. Now it's like 'just another place to eat', and people don't linger long. A shame really. Where's the love?
A great spot for a meeting where you want a comfortable, casual ambience. The service was friendly and they didn't mind us being there for a couple of hours, discussing work alongside drinking coffee and eating a light meal.
Great food . Cosy place to dine. Very friendly staff. Reasonable prices.
Very enjoyable place to celebrate Mother’s Day. Staff were very attentive and food great also
High School reunion for 3 of us (class of 1960). It was quiet enough for us to hear our conversation and we stayed a long time after eating without feeling unwelcome. By coincidence it was Valentine's Day so I gave my guests crochet lavender filled hearts.
