Umami Burger - Oakland
The drinks came out way after the food and that was after we asked twice. It was not busy so there was no excuse for the delay. Also, I didn’t like the fact that our server kept trying to up sell my girlfriend on a margarita that she insisted she didn’t want. I hadn’t been to this place in over 5 years and I’m not sure I will be going back.
Service was lacking e.g had to ask for water, they forgot my beer and the salad was not good and had too much dressing - I had the Caesar.
Too slow to get the food
Service was terrible. Servers and manager didn’t seem to care. In looking at the reviews online this seems to be the norm. Corporate should be forced to suffer through this experience. Seems like they are just paying lip service in responding to reviews. I’m not sure how they stay in business.
Really great spot. We stopped here before a show at The Fox.... the burgers were outstanding, and the Load ‘Em fries, forgetaboutit! We’ll be back!
Our food never arrived!
After about 45 minutes we were informed that the chef quit and the manager was no where to be found. I felt so bad for the wait staff and bartender, they basically told customers that their food would never arrive so all of the customers in the packed restaurant left.
My husband and I were grabbing a bite before a show across the street, needless to say we went to the show hungry.
Get your act together and have a plan B for situations like this! I’ll never dine at any Umami again.
The waiter needed help. He was great considering the number of tables he had to deal with. The meal, ambiance, etc. was fine.
I have gone to Umami Burger dozens of time. There were dishes on the menu that I couldn't wait to eat. There was an alcoholic drink on the menu that had become my favorite. So, imagine my surprise and disappointment to find that they had completely revamped their menu and that my favorites were no longer on the menu. When I asked for the drink, I was informed that the bartender didn't know how to make it. How could such a popular drink that had been on the menu for years be something that the bartender now didn't know how to make?
I truly wish that Umami Burger would bring back the items deleted on the current menu. Otherwise, it may be time to find an alternative restaurant.
The server was friendly and he never made us hurry after eating, so we enjoyed hanging out in there.
We've had friends rave about Umami, so we decided to scratch our burger itch and make it there. Burgers were meh - really not a ton of flavor, which was readily apparent on the one burger we ordered without a bun. The meat itself was a pretty bland, no char or crust...just okay. The other burger had good additions to it (bbq sauce, for one), but was underwhelming at about 4 ounces and $15 and not a ton of flavor. We're happy to pay $15 for a burger that makes us say YUM, but this...not so much. Service was super odd - after being in the nearly empty restaurant for over 5 minutes, we wondered if there was even table service. The server herself seemed uncomfortable with human interaction, while the bartender was REALLY into it and very enthusiastically delivered my husband's beer (after finding out that two of the five beers on tap didn't exist)...the bartender and his delivery were the best part of the whole night.
We were there for happy hour and enjoyed several dishes including tempura asparagus, kimchi Brussels sprouts and the French fries. Delicious!
Food never disappoints at Umami, but our poor waiter was barely able to keep up as there only appeared to be two people working a busy lunch shift. Just needed a little more help during the lunch shift.
The food was tasty, but small portions for price. Nice selection of food to choose from.
I made midweek lunch reservations for my adult daughter and myself. We shared plates and benefited from flexible luncheon specials that offered vegetarian and meat options that included beverages. We arrived early and were seated immediately! Very friendly staff. Yummy food and we so enjoyed our meal! Thanks Umami Burger!
Had the Manly Burger. Outstanding flavor! The fryer was down the day we visited, though...
Great spot for business lunch for 2-6 people. Definitely try the impossible burger!
Server helped me navigate various dietary restrictions. Food was fresh and high quality.
Delicious burger and side dishes! Nice ambiance and friendly service.
I love it here. The employees are nice the food is nice everything is great
The burgers were delicious as were the fries. A little pricey for me to go back there more frequently for lunch, but their happy hour is nice.
I read several of the reviews as this was my first time there. We had lunch there and everything was great, our server was wonderful and helpful, the burger I had was excellent and I don't really eat burgers so I was really surprised it was so good, I went home and recommended to several of our peeps that work in the area there. We also had the asparagus - yummy! Noise level was what should be expected for an open forum so it didn't bother me, after all it's a burger place! My experience was great and I intend to return and bring friends.
The deep fried asparagus is to die for and the classic burger contains just about every umami-loaded item you can imagine - parmesan cheese, mushrooms, caramelized onions and beef. Go hungry and expect warm, friendly, and efficient service.
Service was terrible. It was busy but no one greeted us on arrival to table and we had to ask and wait for everything from water, drinks, food order... Food was just ok and overpriced.
Great hamburgers. I was excited about the cheesey tater tots but love the tempura asparagus better. But overall very good. Not great wine selection.
Both meat and Impossible burgers are great. A little pricey but a discount coupon makes the value right.
Amazing food ! The truffle cheese is just perfect
Wow! Great burgers, and the best onion rings I’ve ever had.
The poor reviews that I read about this place are more than justified. The patty on my burger was absolutely tasteless.
Food is always great. Thin fries are amazing and the Truffle Burger is always very tasty. My friend had the Manly Burger and she thought it was the best burger she had ever eaten.
Not what I expected. Decent drink menu and food was fine. But a total “joint” and not really a restaurant.
A great place to grab a burger with a twist. Also a great place to grab fries and beers. Give it a try.
I would recommend this restaurant but with exact information about MY experience.
Love those truffle fries. The burgers were good - our party had 1 beef burger, 2 ahi burgers and 1 chicken burger. The ahi burgers got the best reviews.
We did like the ice cream sandwiches except mine was frozen solid. I had to wait several minutes to eat it.
The service was great.
I’ll go back for those truffle fries!
We really enjoyed the burger, but the service, though friendly, was painfully slow. We ordered apps and burgers at 6:20. The apps arrived a little after 7:00 (actually, one of the apps never arrived), and the burgers closer to 7:15. A "quick burger" place this is not.
Was 10 min late due to traffic. Waited 10 more min for hostess/manager to come to front. Told us he gave away our table and would put us at back of waistline with 30 min wait. Walked across the street to a fantastic Mexican restaurant without wait or reservations. Manager and restaurant too arrogant for burgers. First disappointment with Open Table. Try the Mexican place across the street. Amazing place.
Food was okay but better when they first opened a few yrs ago.. Service was slow-- had to ask to for silverware and the check. Looked like only 1-2 servers for entire place n it was full-- maybe at most 50% capacity
We found a new "go to" pre-concert spot. Only a couple blocks and an easy walk from the Fox and the Paramount, this place is a hidden gem. The truffle burger, bliss! The truffle tater tots, double bliss!!
Great service on top of great food!!
Disappointed with the whole thing. We’ve been here many times before events at Paramount and know it can get super busy. Made a reservation for 6:00, got there 6:05 and were seated quickly with menus. Server very nice but clearly busy. Two simple burgers, two drinks-food arrived 6:50,drinks arrived AFTER we had finished our food & made at least three requests for our drinks. Bummer
We just came back from Anaheim and ate at the Umami Burger there and it was spectacular. Unfortunately, the Oakland location is nothing like it. The salad was over dressed the lettuce cups where terrible (nothing like the first time) and the burgers so so. The prices are pretty high, so we expected more.
They noted they don’t do opentable reservations on Saturday’s which was annoying. While we were able to get a table, probably would’ve chosen to eat elsewhere and get open table points
