Umami Burger - SOMA
Nice experience trying the Impossible Burger.
We went quite late and the place was calm.
Our greeter was rude and basically gave me the impression he didn’t want us as patrons. I was there with my sister, nephew and son. He was absolutely rude and snarled at us constantly. Our server was fine. But each time I looked up and saw him or he walks by, he would snarl at us yet he was extremely friendly to others.
The burgers and fries were lack luster. I think the In n Out burger I had recently tasted better than that for a fraction of the price. Won’t be coming back again and will suggest others to do the same.
It’s been years since last time. Likely won’t be going back
The fish tacos were outstanding but the poke bowl was a big disappointment. We order poke bowls everywhere and this was just a big bowl of lettuce with a few pieces of poke in it. I would really recommend they make it more interesting and put more poke and more ingredients in it. I absolutely loved the fish tacos and would highly recommend them. I really like that they offer the impossible burger in both burger form and in the taco bowl. Next time I go I'll try the taco bowl with the impossible burger and definitely the fish tacos. Also, it was very noisy, I wish they had just turned the music down a little bit so it was easier to carry on a conversation.
Asked to add mushrooms on burgers and we got 2 pieces of chopped mushroom on each burger
We used to love this place but they've changed their menu and got rid of the burgers we liked best. Plus, no more turkey burgers. On the day we visited, they were also entirely out of Impossible burgers and sweet potato fries. Don't expect we will go back.
Server was rude. Treated us like a were kids and weren’t going to tip him and put us under Togo order when we clearly sat down and ordered food. Every time we’d ask for something he’d be rude about it. Overall horrible service. Would not recommend to anyone
Food was great. Tried the Impossible Burger. It was excellent.
Service was fast at first then really slowed down. It took forever to get our check.
Very good impossible burger at a great value. Nice to eat outside!
Great and accommodating. They stayed open later because of the graduation was running late. The food came out quickly but still delicious.
The food was good and service was fast.
Their burgers are so small for the price even though it's really good.
Food was amazing. Went 2 hours before Giants game so it wasnt too busy but service was still slow
Great place. Very welcoming staff / ownership. Food was delicious.
Receptionist was very helpful seating us at a better table than the original, and the waiter was very attentive at first, but seemed to be overwhelmed as crowds came in. We had to hurry to make a train, and had to leave the dessert on the table to catch the train due to a long wait for the check to arrive. Interesting food, but lacking something in presentation. Just a burger sitting alone on the plate seemed a little stark. Onion rings were good, but the ketchup had a strange flavor. Wasn't bad experience, maybe expected too much.
burger still good
Great place, staff was really helpful and the food was super.
Best truffle fries ever !!!
The soda machine wasn’t working, out of tea
And tots. Asked for appetizers to come with the meal and all three came out separately 10 minutes apart and before our meal. Burgers were cold and over cooked. Server was clearly overworked and didn’t bring items as asked (sugar, asked twice then I went to the bar to get). Dinner took almost 2 hours!
Cold food, cold temperatures (we couldn’t remove our jackets). Not great burgers, I had a much better experience in the past but dining here on 12/31/2018 was awful.
Still the best burgers around. We use to go to the branch on Union St. Sorry that it's not there any longer
but the King St. one is almost as convenient. We're glad they're there.
Great burgers , but they were out of most of the wines we wanted to order. The restrooms are in bad shape and need repair and better cleaning.
Good option if you are going to AT&T Park for an event or game.
Across from AT&T Park, convenient if you are attending something in the area. Burgers were good, fries too, nice staff.
Had high hopes, but they didn't have the brussel sprouts on the menu, we never got the beet salad we ordered and we waited over 40 minutes for a couple of burgers. Was hoping a great burger, it was under cooked and nothing special. No love went in to the finished product. Why spend $50 for something I can do better for $10
Really disappointing. The food was good but the service was abysmal. And that's generous.
There was nothing about this experience that would ever bring me back to this restaurant, nor would I recommend it to anyone.
The last time we went here was when it first opened several years ago. At that time, there were much fewer good burger options and Umami was great. Loved the burger, sides, service, atmosphere...though the price for the amount of food I thought was too high.
Skip to this visit and everything has changed. But the one thing that hasn't is Umami keeping up with the times. There are so many excellent burger establishments and great restaurants that have put gourmet burgers on their menu. We found the burgers to be mediocre at best. They were overcooked, dry and lacked flavor from both lack of seasoning and the way they were cooked.
Service was friendly, but there were too many employees joking around with each other, that they ignored some basic service essentials. After trying several times to get the attention of the staff, my wife finally just got up, walked to the bar area to interrupt their conversations and said, "May we please have our check?"
The place was pretty empty, but the service slow and inconsistent. Although we all ordered our burgers medium, they were well done and dry. They are very heavy handed with the truffle oil, we could taste it in almost everything we ordered.
The burgers especially the impossible and the manly were better than the service. The fries were well just meh. They don’t have sugar substitute for their iced teas and did I mention that the service lacked passion and enthusiasm?!
Good location near at&t park but could be better.
We had the most terrible service. Our waiter forgot multiple items with our order and forgot to bring them to our table for over 10 minutes.
The restaurant was empty, dare I say dead when we arrived. We reserved a table beforehand and were quickly seated. The waiter was congenial when taking our orders, but wasn't really listening. My friend ordered "sweet potato fries" and the waiter said "maple bacon, ok" and my friend said "no, plain sweet potato" and the waiter kind of ignored him and said "yeah, yeah"... needless to say we got the wrong fries, but at least they gave us the correct ones and gave us the maple bacon ones for free. Another friend ordered the edamame, but then decided to change his order to a burger and walked up to the waiter and asked for the burger and to cancel the edamame. The waiter said "sure" and again, needless to say, the edamame arrived anyway and we didn't want to seem difficult so we just kept it. Another friend ordered the poke salad and when it arrived it was a bowl of plain romaine lettuce, dressing, fish and nothing else. She told the waiter that it was missing a couple of ingredients (red cabbage, nuts, etc) and he had to go back and have them make another one that looked nothing like the first one (because it was actually made correctly this time and wasn't just a giant bowl of romaine lettuce). I'll remind you that we were one of only three parties in the entire restaurant. I think there were more employees than there were patrons and they were all doing their best to look busy while avoiding all eye contact with any of the customers (probably to avoid having to do something). When it came time to get the check and leave we spent 10 minutes trying to flag down our waiter and were glad to finally be out of there. Definitely not returning to this Umami Burger location ever again.
I brought my service dog with me, and the manager was super attentive and kind with both of us! I felt very welcomed and I really recommend this place.
Our burgers were good, but the kids meal was terrible - the sweet potato fries were underdone and sprinkled full of brown sugar, and the slider cheeseburgers were literally burned to a crisp. Plus, they were out of several items we wanted to order
Umami Burger has officially lost it! What used to be fabulous is now so disappointing it defies description.
Terrible service and food. Don’t go there.
Always excited to dine here!
Staff are nice and always have a big smile on their face.
Impossible burger is always on point :) and maple bacon sweet potato fries is a MUST! We don’t mind driving in the city(30mins) for OOOOH MAMI!
The only downside that’s why I didn’t gave it a 5 today which the service and food deserves is the women’s toilet,
It wasn’t busy when we got there maybe 2-3tables occupied (2pm)
However the women’s toilet had toilets rolls here and there and the silver trash inside the cubicle is like on the wall slanted behind your head if you are sitting which is weird.
For sure it’s minor and can fix and i still highly recommend UMAMI BURGER!
This was truly horrific. We made a very early reservation before the Ed Sheeran concert. When we checked in we were notified that they were basically out of EVERYTHING. We had to leave and walk down the street to find food. What restaurant doesn’t make sure they have items before a huge event for their customers? And I am not exaggerating ... they were out of EVERYTHING. An absolutely awful experience and I would never, ever go back.
They need to figure out if they are a counter service restaurant or one with wait staff. The impossible burger was dry and tasteless. The regular burger was acceptable.
Spent a very nice third anniversary in the city just to be disappointed by this Umami Burger. The restaurant was unusually slow, or at least compared to other times I’ve been to Umami. We sat for roughly 20 min before we were greeted with waters, and then ordered two burgers and two sides. We got our burgers in a reasonable time but my medium well burger was delivered as raw as you’d find on a cow in the field. It took 10 minutes for our waitress to come ask how things were, and she had another burger prepared for me. Still no sides. My date was finished with her food before I got my burger, and then I finished mine before the sides came out. Aside from the challenges with food and coordinating the timing of dishes, the management was very distant and not welcoming. Nobody ever apologized for the raw burger, or the sides. We had the sides comped but it felt like nothing was really done to fix it. I don’t recommend this umami burger to anyone in the city. If you happen to go down to Long Beach or SoCal in general, go to umami burger there. They will not disappoint.
