Ordered an appetizer to be served before entre and we never received it. Had to ask again. We ordered the shishito peppers and I think they were in a hurry to get them out because they were barely charred. I’ve had that dish before and it was really upsetting how undercooked and flavorless it was. I didnt expect a discount but for the mistake and low quality I really regretted getting them to begin even if they’d if take it off the bill, which they didn’t.
I'm vegan and they were such a great help with suggestions and the vegan bbq was amazinnngggggg my friend who isnt vegan had the burger as well and was blown away at how good it was. Very happy and will be back!
Nice Burger. Best since shake shack. Fries ok. Good service. Just a lack of customers which might be due to price
As the earlier reviewers noted, small burgers for the price. Restaurant was loud and slow service. There are too many other good burger places in the city. Even the sides and salads weren’t good. Will not go back.
We’d been wanting to try this place, had heard it was tasty. The overall experience for us was a big “meh”.
Before going, looked at menu online after clicking on the “ Wicker Park “ location, & a promotion that was displayed, was not honored in that location. Ok... ordered anyway. The burgers were reasonably tasty, not great & small. And at $14 for a small burger & $7 for a milkshake ( nothing special ), we just don’t need to return. So many other better burgers around town. Staff was pleasant enough, but price for product was a thumbs down.
Place was kind of empty, but it was a Wednesday around 6. The burgers were delicious. Tried the sampler that is offered as an appetizer.
Relaxed, casual atmosphere. Delicious food at a great price. Vegitarian options!
Went for happy hour and enjoyed the experience.
Service was great, timely, and helpful. They walked us through our gluten free options.
Too pricey however for gluten free customers. $15 for a juicy burger on a piece of lettuce. Also, the restaurant looked like it was a construction site with plywall walls.
Food, service, and location were great, price and ambiance felt amiss.
For being the #2 burger listed in Chicago in our area it would not make the top 20, no taste and not what a burger should taste like if the name is Umami I wouldn’t serve it to your mommy not impressed at all after traveling 2 1/2 hours for the burger experience
I would tell them to go on the weekend. Going during the week I don’t think was a good idea. The cooks messed up our burgers twice. And the second time my food was essentially uncooked around the edges and was almost repulsive. Plus things were left off of the burgers that were supposed to be on them. Like one that has an egg on it cane without the egg on it.
But the service was great, and management discounted our meal because it was such a... just bad experience food wise.
For all the hype, I was surprised that the burger was just so-so. Fries were great. Also, check that your meat is cooked! Had to send ours back as it was cold in the middle.
What a great spot for a burger. I am always a little peeved when I have to order sides separately, especially because I felt like their fries were.... fine.... but the food is really good otherwise and service was amazing. Brussels Sprouts to start were delicious. Wings were good too! Great ambiance, and I'd love to go back.
My wife and I ate lunch at the bar and the burgers were great! Nice selection of beers. The staff was very attentive. We’ll be going back.
long wait for food but delicious
Food was great.
Waiter was ok, could have used a couple more check ins
service wasnt that good, but food was good...................
service wasnt that good, but food was good...................
The butcher's burger was outstanding and our server was the best!
Food is always great here but it took literally so long. We were seated slightly after 8:30, ordered right away, and didn’t see our food until around 9:30. They told us a big top had delayed everything but it seemed a little crazy. Burgers and fries were amazing as always!
So HOT. The temperature was 80+ degrees inside. We would of had a few more drinks but it was so uncomfortable. Also, the music was so loud you could no even talk to anyone. This is at 1 pm too. Party of 5 and no one is coming back. I used to love the Umami in LA so I was excited to see one here. The food was not as great as I remember. The servers were really nice, but everything was average or below.
I’ve been there before a year ago and the burgers were great. This time though our food came out cold and the service was really slow. It took one hour 45 minutes to get 2 cold burgers out and the waiter only stopped by once within that period. Save you time and get another awesome burger in the area.
I really really loved my fried asparagus.
Is give this place zero stars if I could. This was our 4th visit and EVERY time the service is extremely slow and apathetic. We’ve given this place plenty of chances thinking the first few times were a fluke but now we’re done. I’d like to say that I at least enjoy the burgers but not after waiting 35+ minutes for two burgers and fries. Why does it take so long?!? The sever never gave an update. Never came back to ask how things are. She said she was bringing me a glass for my bottled beverage but never came back with it. We may have ordered more drinks but she never returned. I’ll never understand why servers don’t keep the drinks coming- it’s only going to increase the overall bill and increase their tip, and at least we’d be attended to and have something to do while we wait what seems like an unending amount of time for our food. We won’t be back.
The wait time was over an hour on a Saturday night... not sure what was going on but our party was disappointed and had to leave. Would I recommend? Maybe if we had gotten our food.
Worst experience! If only you were allowed to give zero stars. My friends and I used to love coming here. Tonight changed our minds. Our server came
In the beginning to take our drink order. Drinks came, and then she took our food order. 55 minutes go by, still no food. We tried getting her attention several times and she avoided us. Finally she comes back to ask us if we wanted another round. We had to ask about our food, and blamed it on a big party that was in the restaurant. We did not see any parties bigger than 5-8 people. Our food finally came and it was all cold and gross. She never came by to see how we were doing. Finally flagged her down and complained about the food. She said there's not much she can do because we already stated eating (well of course we were starving). She said she would talk to her manager and see what she could do. The fries finally came and were better. The server never apologized for the poor service. We asked the host to see the manager. When speaking with her we were also disappointed with her lack of costumer service. The table next to us also had similar issues to us. They were waiting over an hour for their food. The lack of communication and avoiding tables seemed very unprofessional. As someone who used to love coming here, this experience may have changed my mind.
Celebrated a friends birthday! They brought out his burger with a candle on it! Beyond cute!! 10/10 would recommend
We reserved our spot through open table but the restaurant said they had been losing reservations/it didn’t connect to the physical place. Either way, we had to wait extra, and they didn’t do much to amend this problem.
Was there on a slow week day, still next to impossible to get service.
Had to ask multiple times for condiments, our Impossible Burgers took almost 30 minutes and when they arrived the cheese hadn't even melted yet (meaning it was JUST finished being made), despite there only being two other tables with guests at them we wouldn't see our waitress for 10-12 minute breaks.
Food took long even though there were few customers at the time. Burgers were not warm... as we believe they were holding for salads. Service, friendly, but the kitchen let her down.
The burger was mediocre and was very small for the price. It didn't come with any sides so we requested a large order of sweet potato fries. Their 'large' was about the size of Wendy's regular fries and it was not cheap. I will never go back to this restaurant.
It was fine. Definitely better burgers in the city.
This was our second visit to a Umami Burger restaurant. The Wicker Park location's food was not as
tasty as the Randolph Street location. Our burgers were okay, but lacked the pleasing taste we
enjoyed at the other location.
Perhaps, it was just an off day.
The food was absolutely delicious burger was juicy and flavorful
Our grouped waited for food for over after we ordered. When the food arrived it was cold and the bun was hard as a rock. The waitress comped two of the burgers but we paid $200 (group of 5) for a very underwhelming meal. The drinks and ketchup were good.
Service was terrible. Took forever to get our food with no info from the server. When we finally got our food, he explained that they had a lot of takeout orders. That didn’t explain why one burger was burnt and dried out and the other had unmelted cheese on it. And the music was terrible too. It kept going on and off like a two year old was running around with the remote. Definitely not worth it.
From the time we ordered, it took almost 30 minutes to receive our food. Entrees came out first, and then 5 minutes later, we received the appetizers. Service was very disappointing, but the food was pretty good.
Good service, good food...music was a little too loud!
Everything was good except the food took forever to come out. Waitress was great but there seemed to be some major backup in the kitchen as it took almost an hour to get our food. Overheard other tables having the same issue with food taking forever.
I don't think it was a typical visit, or at least I hope not. I think they had just fired or had been walked out on by a number of cooks and I'm pretty sure they had one cook back in the kitchen all night. Our food took about an hour and fifteen to come out and only half of the group got their food. The second half of the group had to wait another 15 minutes to get their food.
The worst part about it was that our server kept us in the dark about why. A simple explanation would have gone a long way in calming us down, but he basically disappeared when things got tough. The saving grace of the whole trip was the manager did come out and explain a little about what was going on although we still weren't entirely sure why it took so long. In the end they comped a lot of the bill, but sitting their with no updates or idea when our food would come out was not cool. I would imagine, for their sake, that they'd get better soon or this place cannot go on.
