Great food, but super loud. Thermostat was also set to 78 making the place very hot. But service was nice and food was great so we’ll be back. Excellent wine and cocktail list too
The food is always excellent and the service couldn't be better!
Food is always excellent! Live music on Thursdays is nice!
Excellent and creative food. Thoughtfully selected wine list. Friendly service
Live in the area and really enjoyed Valor last Saturday night. I had Sea bass which was excellent. We had kale caesar salad (outstanding) and fried cauliflower (too much breading for my taste), as appetizers. Rice pudding for desert was fantastic.
Noise level was a downside. As restaurant cleared out later in the evening, it became quieter and the four of us could enjoy talking as a group easier. Earlier we were catching up with old friends and I talked to her while my husband talked to him.
Special lamb stew was only medicore--very fatty. Place was so noisy. But, service was very good and some of the other dishes were excellent.
Appetizers and entrees are excellent. Noise level is a little loud but the food and service make up for that.
Beautiful restaurant. Great food
Food was excellent and service was good. The only issue was having a singer in such a small space made it difficult to conduct a conversation.
Guitar player added to small space made conversation difficult (although the music was excellent).
Food not as good as our previous dining experiences, possibly just one off specials entree of the scallops with pork ribs. Service was excellent and have had wonderful food there previously so will try again!
Food was excellent but the noise level was terrible and the tables were so close together that it impeded our server from serving the table.
Fantastic restaurant. Not only was the food creative and delicious, but our whole experience was exceptional from the manager/hostess to our outstanding server. A great way to celebrate an anniversary. Highly recommended.
Another great evening at Valor
Starting with a perfect dirty Bombay Sapphire Martini with 2 blue cheese-stuffed olives, we couldn't have had a nicer experience at what has become one of our favorite North Shore spots. We shared a delicious cauliflower appetizer. My wife enjoyed her vegetarian pasta dish, and I loved the cheeseburger. (They had a Moroccan lamb stew special that sounded amazing, but I was in the mood for one of their tasty bacon cheeseburgers.) Normally I prefer thinner frites, but Valor's thicker frites were terrific. And our server, Liz, was awesome: tons of personality, and very willing to make firm recommendations (as opposed to the dreaded, "Oh, everything's really good!")
Recommendation would depend on who is going. The place is great and food really good but we had a friend in from out of town and it was way too loud to carry on a conversation when the tables next to us were occupied and the restaurant wasn’t even full. We regretted we did not choose to sit outside which would have been quieter even with street and sidewalk traffic. Once the parties left on either side of us, we had a lovely time and enjoyed the food. We like a lively atmosphere so hopefully they can do something with the acoustics to turn the noise down a notch.
The rating is all based on the menu:
Brussels sprouts — wonderful
Spicy ribs — wonderful
Tuna — looked like a souffle, my friend had this and said it was delicious.
Soup — ditto
Butter with truffle — excellent
The food was salted so heavily that I couldn’t eat it. I left most on my plate. Noise level was outrageous.
Very slow service and extremely noisy. Food was very good.
Another great meal at Valor! The soup specials the past two weeks (butternut squash with a tough of curry last week, and an incredible cream of mushroom this week) have been must haves - can’t wait to see what Chef Stephan comes up with next week!
Was here a year ago and loved it. Full of people, delicious and creative food. Went back last week and opposite. No one in the place, food was mediocre. Did they change the Chef? Some menu items were the same and some had changed. I did not like the food or the vibe. Too bad.
If you’re looking for a bite before catching the show at Writer’s Theater, you cannot go wrong with Valor. I select two or three entrees that appeal to me and let the staff choose their favorite from them. It’s always a great evening!
Thanks for a great Mother’s Day evening.
We really enjoyed our meal at Valor. The beet salad, tempura cauliflower, short rib pasta, and chocolate bombe were especially delicious. Service was very attentive. The only drawbacks were the cold air that blew in every time the front door opened and the noise level. We started our meal at 5:30 when most tables were open. When we left at 7, most tables were full and it was quite loud.
Our waiter Rocco was attentive without being overly so. The food was delicious and ample portions. We certainly will return!
This was our first visit, it was quite crowded, a small space, but very well designed.
Everything we ordered was delicious, a perfect menu for me with a nice variety.
It's a bit too loud, but overall I would definitely return.
The food and service were decent. The crowded subway-feel was a little aggravating. I was there with my husband and another couple, and the tables were so on top of each other, my poor girlfriend had her chair bumped the entire meal, and literally had to get up and move her chair in so people could leave the restaurant. The wait staff couldn't even get by her, and hers wasn't the only one like that. There was a point when another couple was standing, staring at our table and another table trying to figure out how to exit the place. So ridiculous. It's astonishing to me that the manager and hostesses seat people like that. When the table behind my husband was seated, they bumped his chair just trying to sit down and immediately asked to be moved. The place needs to remove like 5 tables from the floor. Not a comfortable, relaxing dining experience in my opinion, and the staff should've apologized and made amends to my friend. She was a trooper.
Food was delicious. Service was surprisingly aggressive and awkward. We felt rushed. Items on the table were being cleared while we were still eating. We were asked about our food before we picked up our silverware. Our check was delivered even though we didn’t ask for it. Our “fine dining” lasted less than 45 minutes.
First visit but definitely won’t be our last. The food was wonderful and great attentive staff. The popcorn cauliflower was incredible. We also enjoyed the warm Brussels sprout salad and was impressed with the portion size for cost. For entrees I had the Vegetable Fettuccine which I really enjoyed and my friend had the Striped Bass which he loved. The restaurant was a bit over 1/4 full and noise was not an issue but see how it could be on a full night.
I wanted to like this place, but it was incredibly loud and every dish we had was both oversalted and incredibly rich - even the salad, which tasted like every cooked element had been done in bacon fat. The one exception was the panna cotta dessert, which was quite good.
We loved our experience at Valor. The service and the food were excellent. I was so excited to see the L'Ami Jean famous rice pudding on the menu. I asked what the affiliation was with Chez L'Ami Jean in Paris and was told the chef of Valor worked there. That boosted my review even more!
Great food and service . Way too loud to consider returning . Thanks
We really enjoyed our lunch at Valor before the matinee at Writers’ Theatre in Glencoe. Salads were flavorful, waiter attentive without being pushy, and a very nice wine selection with the meal. It’s an enjoyable place to eat in Glencoe, and we definitely will come back soon!
Valor consistently delivers excellently prepared food, with an interesting variety. It also has a food wine list. The atmosphere is pleasant and modern.
Excellent food and delightful service! Love their culinary creativity!!!
Great place! The waiter we had was wonderful, very pleasant and made us feel very welcome! The food was good too.
My girlfriend and I split the broccoli Caesar salad and the tuna tartare. It was just perfect. Friends had the salmon which was tasty, although a little overcooked. I really like this restaurant which is never too noisy.
The hostess was so warm, immediately showed us to our table as she said, “we have your table prepared for you.” Nice touch!
Our server was attentive and humorous. Excellent service.
Of the 6 in our party, 3 had the scallop, short rib combo, the other 3 the steak frites. Loved the scallop/short rib combo and those that had the steak thought it was very good.
The house salad which was split was generous in size and perfectly and deliciously dressed.
I tasted the popcorn cauliflower- yum! Next time I’d order for sure.
We were too stuffed for dessert, but my after meal coffee was great.
Great place for dinner with friends or for a family celebration! Love the caulifower app, mussels and side dishes. The sea bass and veggie pasta was great...the roasted chicken was just okay.
The desserts are excellent and service is always good. This has become one of my favorite go-to restaurants.
dined with a friend on thursday night. we had an early reservation and the guitar player was playing. we felt it was a small venue for this music. for those with a hearing issue, it is hard to hear with that background music.
Beautiful restaurant but we did switch tables because we were so awkwardly close to people on either side, we could hear their conversation and vice versa. So we moved which was fine.
Our server was fantastic, because he took pride in the restaurant, and the food, and it made it so fun.
Everything was delicious.
