We decided to grab a beverage and bite after a visit to the Asian Art Museum. An easy stroll and a great table marked the start, then a knowledgeable sommelier described wine options, and the service & food was divine.
It's always a lovely room, ambience, and service level. Thank you again!
Amazing all across the board! Our sever Steven was exceptionally excellent!
Absolutely wonderful experience and everything was exquisite.
A magical experience. Lounge dining among the splendor of beautiful art and ambiance.
Villon was a delightful surprise! the entire Hotel was really interesting and creative.
Our waiter was just wonderful at his job, friendly but professional - really the best I've had in a very long while. The meal was fresh, fresh, fresh. Colorful, and delicious.
I was pleasantly overwhelmed! A great spot for pre-symphony or opera or City arts and lectures (if we can ever go to those places again...)
To celebrate our friends birthdays we decided on Villon for afternoon tea. It did not disappoint. The hotel is super modern with great decor. The restaurant itself is pretty small which was fine since not many people were dining. The tea and sandwiches were delicious but the desserts were exceptional. I’d say it was a little on the pricey side for the meal but you’re also paying for ambiance. The server didn’t offer or suggest new teas so you’ll have to remember to do that so you can try their variety. My fav was the golden horse!
We went for afternoon tea. It was very nice. Only complaint was not with restaurant itself but the hotel. Valet parking was $18.75 an hour. Find street parking if you can.
Great food, great service, nice ambience
A very light afternoon team with very attentive service.
This is a lovely little restaurant, but the service is mediocre. Ignoring you when you arrive, long wait time to order, and even longer to get food. It often feels like they have forgotten you.
I came to learn that Villon's tea service resumed in mid June but I was not able to make reservation for a party of 6 on OpenTable for the day that I needed it for. It was extremely difficult to get a hold of someone via phone calls, I have to say. Though, Victor, their F&B admin assistant responded my inquiry via email. He was so helpful throughout the planning process. My special requests were related to the operation teams.
We utilized the valet parking that was available on-site, due to surrounding areas closed to the hotel / restaurant. We were greeted by the Front Office team as we passed by the Front Desk. I was asked for the name on the reservation, and guided to the restaurant. We arrived earlier than our reservation time, so we waited at the lobby lounge area. The area and furniture looked clean. Moments later, a lovely lady ( sorry, I forgot her name but likely to be the supervisor / manager of Villon) came to greet us and introduced herself. She guided us to our table. A card for our birthday girl was waiting for her. I was certainly a fan of the utensils.
We went with their special menu that was extended as we didn't want to put too much thinking. The tea sandwiches were good. Qualities of the sweets could be better. Sodas were the only option for the girls. It would be ideal if OJ or hot chocolate could be an alternative option. In terms of food and drinks, I am afraid to say that we have had better elsewhere.
Villon was filled with guests that came in for Afternoon Tea services shortly after we started eating. The lady (supervisor / manager) was a great example and motivationfor the team. Both servers, on the other hand, had opportunity for improvement in order to deliver the service with better consistency.
On our way out, our birthday girl was greeted with more "Happy Birthday, XXX!!"
Thank you Villon / F&B twam and the Front Office team at Proper for your hospitality!! This experience would certainly be one for her to remember.
Great food and drink. Quiet. Lovely dining room.
Like the environment but food needs some hard work
Looked understaffed, which is entirely understandable. Waited an hour for the food, but it was good food. Server checked in here and there. I’d go back if I didn’t have to wait an hour for breakfast.
Limited lunch menu includes solid fish tacos and chopped salad. Nice in a pinch.
It’s a must to visit. Amazing service from the moment you step into the hotel, get greeted at the door, and walk you to the restaurant. As soon as you step into Villon, you get 5 star service and very professional and friendly staff. Food and drinks were great as well. I saw this place on Instagram, the design of the restaurant and hotel was so dreamy and fabulous. Kelly Wearstler created a beautiful timeless master piece. I highly recommend this place to everyone.
The staff was amazing, service was fast, food was delicious and I loved the overall ambiance. Great find!
The Proper Breakfast was amazing!!
Didn’t actually eat at Villon’s but the hotel Villon’s was in offered us service at their late night restaurant which is functionally the same as Villon’s but instead at their rooftop bar. Great service and great food.
Had the best time such a cute ambiance
Fun afternoon tea
Great experience with afternoon tea. Staff was very helpful and accommodating. I had a 7 month old with me and still had a great time. Tea selection and food were good.
I had a wonderful time at afternoon tea with a friend here, service was knowledgeable, prompt, and great and the food was amazing. Interior decor of the space and the hotel is amazing. One con is that the area this hotel is based in on market street is a bit close to tenderloin, I would recommend taking rideshare rather than walk to the hotel for safety. The entrance of the hotel has sufficient security personnel, but the surrounding blocks are not the safest. I would be happy to come here again as long as I took that precaution
Love the restaurant, the food was exceptional. Only problem is that the neighborhood is terrible and parking feels unsafe. I thought I was putting my personal safety on the line trying to get to the restaurant.
We requested certain tables (including table numbers) yet the hostess seated other people who didn’t request the same smack in the middle of the three available tables.
There were three available 81, 82, 83. Due to social distancing mandates for indoor dining, six feet apart are required. It would’ve made sense to seat them at 81 or 83, NOT 82, so that another party who requested that area would also be able to sit there.
Didn’t make sense. Completely avoidable disappointment.
We’ve taken tea here many times. We know that the table request is not guaranteed. You can imagine that if the table was requested by only one party, it could’ve been accommodated. So this makes it doubly disappointing. Enough to spend this precious time to provide feedback.
On a brighter note, Alexander was excellent. Attentive, hospitable, professional. He will bring certainly bring guests back to The Proper.
First of all, let me just say this-- eye candy. This restaurant is gorgeously appointed. Secondly, the staff was friendly, attentive, charming, and lovely. If I were Goldilocks, I'd say, "Just right." And thirdly, the food was delicious. Memorable. Tasty. Zero concerns, zero complaints. I highly recommend this restaurant. If you are on the fence, hop on over to the Villon. Do it.
The afternoon tea was a very fun experience. The tea and desserts were so tasty. We sat in the lobby area which has a fun atmosphere.
I wouldn't recommend this place. The decor is beautiful but the service and the food didn't match the price. The scones were hard and the sandwich options were lacking; the bread was hard and crusty. The tea was good, though.
Love this place, awesome burgers, and great breakfast. The Proper Hotel and Villon are two of my favorite places to eat and stay.
Inside seating area was nice, we sat outside. It was loud but they made it a cute environment. Service was okay, had to wave down and find the waiter multiple times, but they were very accommodating with food allergies. Food was good, menu very limited so look at menu before hand.
We enjoyed Villon. Unfortunately, the area is horrible. Not the fault of Villon. Found it a bit pricey but it is S.F. $21. for a salad is ridiculous.
Delicious food and attentive service. Thoroughly enjoyed lunching here and look forward to the next time.
Very friendly staff and peaceful surroundings
I had a great experience at this place trying their 5-course Valentine's menu.
Came here for Valentine’s Day afternoon tea. The vibe and design of the experience was not quite as advertised. The outdoor area was nice and had individual heaters which was perfect. However, when the server came to our table, even though Afternoon tea was the only thing on the menu, she asked us what we wanted as if we had a emu to choose from. We didn’t order Prosecco, but that was brought to us anyways ($15 extra per person). The food and pastries for tea were brought to our table with no explanation or overview of what we were actually eating. While the food was pretty good, the poor service really affected the whole experience.
Beautiful afternoon tea! The roobis was just perfect and served in a classic silver teapot. I have a dairy allergy, and the chef was able to make accommodations for me. The food was so delicious. The hotel shared great hospitality in helping me get set up with a reservation and communicating my dietary restrictions with the chef. Shout out to Kalai for being so available and detail oriented through this process. Highly recommend!
Good Evening! Thank you so much for your feedback! We are so happy you enjoyed your time! Thank you,
Outside but too cold. The sandwiches were prepared ahead so the bread was a bit stale. It was all very mediocre food wise but some of the pastries were good. Let hungry.
We had the Thanksgiving pre-fix menu and it was fantastic overall with smart wine pairings. We opened up the meal the an espresso martini that set the tone for a rich wintery feast. The chestnut celery soup was spectacular, very elevated, as well as the oysters. The turkey and traditional fixings was just that, could have bit a bit more interesting, but very tasty and comforting. Desert was deconstructed pumpkin cheesecake with a punchy citrus sherbet. Fabulous!
Did Thanksgiving for the 2nd time here. Great food - glad it was almost the same as last year because it's very good.
I loved all of it - delightful -great service and amazing food -
