Loved the food and service, but the noise level was a problem for some of us.
First time at this new place. Had the Fried chicken and blue cheese potatoes. Both great and had to ask for a to-go box as the portions were large. Good value. Could have had some unique deserts, it was the normal stuff. They need a signature desert and it can't be the its-it bar take off. How about a cobbler? It is a tavern; good bar, TVs with sports on, comfortable seating; we needed a place like this in the neighborhood. Will be back.
We sat in their lovely outdoor patio area. Great ambiance, loved the food, wasn’t too noisy.
Fun place to meet with good food and adult beverages!
The Brussel sprouts were delicious, kale salad, chicken wings, fries, were good!
Service was attentive and friendly!
Thank you for a great birthday brunch.
Nick was especially nice. Coming out to see if we enjoyed everything. This is our second time in and definitely will be back. Worth the drive from Vallejo.
Always professional staff. Meal choices are healthfully executed. Great drink menu
What a mixed experience. We made reservations for lunch and requested patio seating. When we arrived we were directed outside the restaurant down some stairs to the patio. We chose our own table and then read that it was counter service. OK, we went to the counter and ordered cocktails. Oh, we have to go upstairs and get our own cocktails and start a tab. So we get the cocktails, spilling along the way and return to our seats. We visit, decide on food. Go to the counter and order. Not bad. We had to get our own water, silverware and napkins. Food delivered. Fairly good food. Patio was nice and we were able to bring our dogs. Patio was not busy. We finished our meal and went to the counter to pay. For four people, with drinks, the total was close to $200.00. We had to wait on ourselves for goodness sakes. To add insult to injury, my email contained a note from Open Table that we had missed our reservations and were now on "the list." We replied to Open Table and they cleared up the matter. But the way the restaurant is set up, if you choose the patio, you can't check in. Everyone was pleasant and the food was fine. But it was such a ridiculous set-up that I will not return and will not recommend.
First time visiting the Waterdog Tavern and loved it, Camille was just so darn sweet and a great server!!
Early dinner with grandson. We both had the bbq chicken strip salad and only ate 1/2 due to way too much dressing and bbq sauce
It was our first time here. We chose to sit outside, as it was beautiful weather and we have a rambunctious toddler. For the outside seating, you need to order at the bar and food/utensils/napkins are all brought to you at the same time. You are responsible for getting your own water. In our experience, no one checked on us after getting our food, not sure if that's normal or not. While it was GORGEOUS outside, with a beautiful creek and fountain and foliage, it did feel very cramped and I felt that my toddler and I were constantly in other people's or staff's way, even when just sitting at our table. There were also a number of bees that would not leave our table alone - certainly not Waterdog's fault, but annoying and scared my toddler. Most importantly, the food was delicious and came pretty quickly. Overall it was a good experience and did seem family and dog friendly. We will likely try again.
Too Loud!! Decent food. Weird meme choices.
We were a party of 6 and the service to take our drink orders was quite slow even though the restaurant was not busy, Our server made some quip about this was her Friday and she didn't have to work the next day- indicating she was not happy to be there. The food was fine, (nothing special,) and the drinks were generous. We were there to celebrate a work colleague leaving and brought along some special cupcakes for dessert. When our server saw the bakery box she announced, " there's a $ 2.50 per person charge for cutting and serving an outside dessert." She was told that the contents were cupcakes and wouldn't require her help cutting, etc. She said, "It doesn't matter, there's still a $ 2.50 per person service charge. " When it came time for dessert 6 dessert plates were slapped down on the table not passed to each guest and no fork were provided. This attitude and policy is rude . We certainly won't be coming back with the attitudes we experienced. I also think the ownership should reconsider the per person charge for outside desserts -that's ridiculous, I can see perhaps a single csurharge but not a per person charge !
Excellent food. Great service. If your looking for a quieter evening make sure you get a table away from the bar.
Awesome atmosphere, the jalapeno margarita was so good and balanced. CHEESEBURGER juicy and tasty. Our server had a wrist injury but he still made our night with his excellent service. We had a great date night . Thank you.
Service was good and so was food Love the triple salad. Nice drink menu
We went at 4:30pm, they have happy hour from 3-6pm, however, you are not allowed to order of the menu until 5pm - only have limited choice on the "Happy Hour" menu.
So for late lunch or early dinner, do not recommend.
We like it here and always enjoy our visits. A quick reminder to waiting staff: if you spend several minutes petting & cuddling one of the (completely adorable) dogs in the garden outside, it would be great if you'd wash your hands before returning to food-serving. I'm a dog-lover, but not to that extent.
Be sure to check out the outdoor patio to see if that is more to your liking. Good vegetarian options. Service was excellent (thanks Bill!)
We were very disappointed in our lunch yesterday. I had the avocado toast. Which, was delicious. The bread could have been sliced a little thinner to make it easier to manage. Otherwise, it was perfect. My husband had the large kale salad with salmon. The salmon was delicious. The kale salad was just a huge bowl of kale. Did not look appealing. And, he ate very little of it. My friend ordered a cup of soup and the small kale salad. The soup was so spicy, she could not eat it. When she told the wait person about it, she said she would let the kitchen know. That was it! My friend did not eat much of her salad, either. We also felt that the $4 charge for espresso was a little extravagant. And, the 3% charge for the wage supplement was outrageous. All in all, it was a disappointing birthday lunch.
I took my kids & a friend. This was the first time we sat outside. It was very nice. Food was great. Whether it’s inside or outside were looking forward to going back.
So glad Waterdog is now open for lunch. It was quiet, unusual for this popular eatery. It was my first time, as well, first time taking staff. I looked around and would feel comfortable coming in alone, maybe sitting at the bar. I often need a meal alone and I like the menu very much. There's something soothing and very comfortable about the decor, inviting, light, and very friendly. I will be back often, and I will bring more groups!
Although I'd made a reservation, we had to wait about 10 minutes for our table on the 'view side.' But with a comfortable sitting area by the fireplace, we didn't mind. The food was great -- a yummy artichoke and crab dip, excellent tomato basil soup, and an Indian masala stew with chickpeas and chicken. My companion ordered fried chicken that came with corn on the cob and cornbread, and said it was very good. Our server was great -- attentive and eager to please. But the bar and kitchen were not fully on top of things. It took 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive -- and we hadn't asked for anything exotic. Conversely, the soup came too soon, before we'd finished the dip. Some guests might've preferred that, but we were taking it slow. Our server offered to replace it, but we declined. My main course (the stew) included a healthy topping of cilantro that I'd asked to leave off. Again, the server took the initiative to replace it. I was happy to brush the cilantro to one side, but she insisted. I gave in, only because the original wouldn't go to waste, she said. Although we chose to eat inside, the outdoor beer garden with a bridge, stream and plenty of seating looked lovely and quiet. I would try Waterdog Tarvern again.
Edit to review: I returned five weeks later for an almost identical experience: same menu choices (minus the soup - unavailable), even the same table, but a different server -- also efficient, attentive, though he seemed rushed. We waited 20 minutes for our entrees, and once again, the masala came with cilantro. The server offered to exchange it. I declined, but my drink was comped, which was nice. And the drinks came faster this time.
Buffalo wings were very good. Burgers were good sized but all were undercooked a bit. Nice beer list.
We've gone to Waterdog Tavern many times in the past. It's a neighborhood gem!!! Last night we had the kale salad which was so tasty! I loved the dressing which was sharp, fresh and made the salad so good, and I added avocado to the salad, yum. My daughter and I had the special sandwich of the week which this week is a smokehouse burger with chipotle BBQ sauce, jalapeños, crispy onions, bacon, garlic aioli, lettuce, tomato and pickles. So delicious. Service is friendly and the place is bustling and lively. It was pretty loud when we got there, but got quieter :) If you haven't tried Waterdog already, check it out.
Very poor food..won’t be back
Food is terrible here. Very poor menu options that are made even worse with over-seasoning and bad presentation. It’s too bad because it’s in a good location and the ambience is great. We won’t return.
Our waiter took forever to bring water to the table. Then food to the table.
More to check out the outside garden area for service & food.
Had read positive comments about Waterdog Tavern so decided to try it last Saturday night. Since it was the extended 4th of July weekend, they were not as busy as they normally would be. We had a cocktail in the outside area next to the babbling brook. Large area and realized they can accommodate dogs in that area. We ate dinner inside at a table overlooking the outside patio area. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and all of the staff was very friendly and efficient. We will definitely return!!!
Great place and service
Fourth visit to Waterdog over a year and a half, still very average and WAY too loud, they need some carpeting or dividers or something to cut down on the crazy loud noise and very average food
Great find in Belmont. Food was nicely done, classic dishes with a Californian twist. Friendly staff and nice ambience. We went there for brunch with a family friend with 2 kids (9 and 13). They even have a kid's menu which was a big plus for us!
Restaurant was fun + lively; service was uneven as food seem to come at us at odd times...main dish before starter course; waiter was pleasant but not very knowledgeable about food or drink specials
Food was great, as usual. Server didn't want to be there and the attention to us showed that (or lack there of). No real engagement by Maria, look of disappointment and "you wasted my time" when we didn't order dessert. Perfect for a diner; not befitting of a cool restaurant. Bad night? Don't think so. This was her. She needs coaching. Her income depends on it!
I had the short rib entree (which I believe is a specialty), and it had a burned taste. The beef, the mushroom and the sauce all tasted burned. I imagine that the short ribs were slow cooked and perhaps this batch had been leftover from lunch and was too old to be serving at dinner. The appetizer salad was served with all our main entrees as well. Will probably not go back again.
No notice from our reservation that we were celebrating an anniversary, even though I put it in the open table res notes. No big deal, but why ask ?
Food was OK. Service was horrible. Sat down and waited 15 minutes before any even acknowledged we were there. Did not refill water until asked, even when the server stopped by the adjacent tables and could have seen we were out of water.
Friendly service, both at the bar and table with helpful suggestions and good knowledge of drinks and food items. Delicious food. Plenty of it. Very noisy.
Immediately upon walking in we were assailed by a crowd of drunk 40 somethings yelling over each other. We were sat after a short wait for our table during the yelling. Once sat we immediately noticed our table was filthy.
We eventually ordered drinks, apps, soup and mains. The dishes that we were supposed to eat our sides with were both dirty. Finally when my wife received her main the scallops were missing from it. The waiter apologized and went back to the kitchen, she was pretty much done eating by the time they came out.
This is our go to place! All of us from my 95 year old mother on down has a favorite on the menu. None of them are the same. A very nice casual spot we all enjoy
