Wherewithall

The food was mostly excellent, though I would say the avocado ice cream (not part of the main 4 courses) was a big miss for me and the wine list didn't seem to match the quality of the food. I can appreciate the attempt to have more local offerings, but I would rather have a French wine than one from Michigan. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves but felt the price point was a bit high for what was delivered. Glad we tried it, but we aren't itching to return.
The food was amazing, and the space is gorgeous. The service was largely very good. The the only hiccup was our table's wine pairings kept getting forgotten. There were a couple of courses where we had to ask for the pairings to be brought.
While it's advertised as a 4 course prix fixe, with the 3 amuse bouches, the palate cleanser, and the optional cheese plate it was actually 9 courses. The food was excellent, the servers were friendly and answered all of my questions, and the space was very cute.
I was really drawn to Wherewithall because of the nightly changing menu. I loved that they snuck in extra courses and snacks go our meal. The wine was definitely the best part- some of the best I've had. However, while each course was executed pretty well, I didn't find any one thing to be mind blowing, which I expected for the price. The dishes were still tasty, though, and a good experience overall.
An innovative restaurant with an unusual, interesting wine selection. The server was knowledgeable and took time to explain the food and wines in the wine pairing. We enjoyed it tremendously.
Can’t recall a restaurant with a pri fixe menu with wine pairing that doesn’t employ a sommelier.
Food presentation impressive.
Soundtrack adds nothing other than to contribute to excessive noise level.
Wonderful food and atmosphere and knowledgeable servers. Would have liked to bring our own wine(from our 30 year old son’s birth year) also portions were quite small-my husband and son came away hungry
The service was great but we found the food disappointing. There were no real standouts and a couple of dishes were downright basic -- or perhaps their subtleties were lost on us. At first, we thought $65 was a real deal for the tasting menu but once we had the dishes, we felt it was overpriced for what it was.
Delicous! It was a great experience from beginning to end!
Among the worst ever
One of the best wine pairings I have ever had. Well done
Excellent, interesting food, very well prepared. Polished service. Hard to believe the restaurant is quite new. It seems as though it has been open longer.
Wherewithall was just lovely! The room is comfortable and simply decorated with warm, not too dim lighting. I like to see my food and the color of my wine (and not have to whip out a flashlight app on my phone in order to read the menu.) The thoughtful use of felt on the banquettes, walls and light shades really help absorb noise making conversation easy and relaxed. The service was excellent: the servers were friendly and knowledgeable about the food and wines. Each dish was a little gem: panisse, buttery celeriac ribbons, sturgeon, wagyu beef. And, best of all, a generous plate of flavorful bread served with excellent butter. It was all highly civilized without being pretentious or twee.
The food was disappointing. Lack of balance in the dishes made them un-memorable. The space is lovely, the service is reasonably good but the food did not deliver value.
The room is casual and inviting. Our server was well informed, professional and attentive. Overall the food was a bit disappointing - good, but not exceptional. The sturgeon was very good, as was the pear tart dessert, but the celeriac pasta had an unpleasant bitterness and the wagyu beef was surprisingly tough. Wine pairings were just ok.
Frankly, although the food was creative and interesting, the service was surprisingly poor - drinks, wine, over and over, never coordinated with food courses, and waitress was uninviting.
This was such a nice dinner. We expected a lot because we LOVE Parachute. And we were not disappointed. The food was delicious, but what really made the night was the level of service in terms of explanations of the food and attentiveness.
Can’t say enough about how amazing everything was! Food, wine service and atmosphere was outstanding! A great experience
The range, presentation, flavors, and amount of food for a prix fixe was extraordinary. The service was attentive and knew the kitchen well considering the menu changes every night. Wine selection was eclectic and solid quality. There was parking in the neighborhood. Will be back.
Loved it! Creative Dishes, and amazing flavors
Fantastic experience. Highly recommend the wine pairing. Great energy without being too loud to converse. Creative and delicious food, portions and variety hit the sweet spot. Definitely will be going back!
Beautiful restaurant and excellent food, left full and satisfied. I would say it’s on par for price so don’t expect “a deal”. Would be fun to sit at the bar next time even if they offer a lighter menu.
The food was very good- creative, delicious and, I thought, a good amount for this type of menu. I think the biggest improvement they could make to be truly excellent is that we felt rushed. We ordered a dinner cocktail and also the wine pairings. We had just received our cocktail when the started to bring the first of the food and the first wine. Our cocktails were still full! From there, we were not allowed to simply ever enjoy our food and drink. Plates were whisked away and then more were brought out with more wines. We felt as if the attentive staff was hovering. It is a fine line that they could do a bit better on and allow people to enjoy their meals. Additionally, I was not overly impressed with the wine pairings. Wines should not only taste good but should smell wonderful. These did not. A bit of a miss there. Still a delightful evening for the most part.
Amazing food. Great creative wine pairings. Good price for this level of restaurant.
Yum! You can’t choose your menu but it doesn’t matter everything g they make will blow your GD mind. EVERYTHING!
Way too bright. Although the place was empty when we arrived, we were sited right in front of the kitchen counter with probably 8-10 servers (do they need this many?) hanging out at first, then moving a lot.
Food was okay. Not bad, not spectacular.
Wine was very strange and wine pour is tiny (even outside of the wine pairing). How many glasses are they getting out of a bottle? Must be 5 or 6.
The granita was my favorite I think (which I know it’s not supposed to be, but memorable flavor). Venison was also nice and tender.
Great price fixed menu for price. Very nice interior and setting. Attentive service with very accommodating staff. For those who are picky as to food likes, the menu which is set and without choices may be difficult.
We truly enjoyed our meal at Wherewithall. Service was excellent. Everything was delicious, with a dessert that was completely different from anything I’d had and absolutely luscious. The wine pairings stood out as well for really picking unique off the beaten path wines that paired very well with the dishes. Already planning to return next time we are in Chicago.
The experience was very enjoyable. As a pre fixe menu, there is an element of surprise. I felt a "fall" theme to the dishes - mushrooms, apples, etc. We both requested a pescatarian menu which included primarily vegetable dishes and one fish dish. Besides the main dishes, there were several extras - appetizers and desserts. The service was casual but attentive, not stuffy. While not inexpensive, I felt it a decent value given the elevated food experience.
This was such a neat experience! I love the whole concept of changing the menu daily. The restaurant was able to accommodate our dietary restrictions (no red meat, no pork) with absolutely no problem, just be sure to give at least 24 hour notice. We will definitely go back to experience a new menu in the future.
I thought that my experience at Wherewithal was all around excellent.
I loved the nightly menu and it makes me want to come back to try another menu.
I did feel a little cramped with people and servers walking behind my table. We were seated at a half corner of the slanted wall. When people would walk by, I frequently felt that I had to adjust myself to make sure people could get around me.
It was not a major distraction by far, but I did find myself feeling a tad closed in. Other than that, my partner’s and I experience was fantastic. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone I know.
Beautiful location and outstanding food. The constantly changing menu will bring us back. Attentive and knowledgeable staff. Wine list seems a bit off.
Wow...it lived up to the hype. Delicious and beautiful food, with great service. Highly recommended.
Just not that good. Parachute is outstanding, would go there instead. Hollandaise with scallops and truffles was way too rich, didn’t enjoy at all. Best part (only great part, really) was cider granita at end. Wouldn’t go back.
Fantastic concepts for each dish. Can’t wait to return.
Clever food in a cool space.
Soooo delicious. Was hesitant to do the wine pairing because of the price, but I decided to do it and it was so worth it! All of the flavors were perfect. Will definitely recommend to anyone coming to Chicago!
Food was good. Not much variety. Portions should have been
larger. The men in our party left hungry!
It's not the best food I've ever had, it's not really even in the competition, but wow did I have fun at this restaurant. Great vibe, good food, such a fun experience!
