My favorite restaurant. If you are looking for run-of-the-mill food, this place is not for you, if you are looking for superbly prepared entrees, that you may have never had the opportunity to try before, relax and enjoy. Social hour 3-6 Tuesday through Friday, is just what this area needed! Wine, cocktails and top shelf appetizer-sized bar snacks at discount prices! ❤️
Outstanding food and service! I only wish it was closer to where I live!
FOOD WAS GOOD ESPECIALLY THE VEGETABLES MY WIFES DUCK BREAST WAS TOUGH AND AFTER DINNER TOLD THE WAITRESS TO WHICH SHE SAID THAT SOMEONE ELSE HAD THE SAME COMPLAINT AND SAID THEY SWITCHED VENDERS. THEY COMPLIMENTED US DESSERT WHICH WAS NICE. THE PLACE JUST DOESNT HAVE A WARM FEELING TO MATCH THE FOOD OFFERED.
7:30 reservation on a Friday is an absolute must. We arrived a minute or two early. The place was packed. Our 4 top was the only available table and after an exceptional cuisine, delicious hand-crafted drinks and locally brewed craft beers, we know why. At first, it felt a tad crowded but honestly, once the drinks were delivered and our first course served, we forgot about any neighboring tables. It was all about the food and our friends. A delicious culinary experience that we’ll savor until we visit again in the very near future!
Dinner on Friday night at 5:00. Place wasn't busy yet. Ordered the Tuna Poke and grilled Octopus to start. Both appetizers were nice portions but nothing special. Ordered the bison steaks as a main course. Both steaks came out overcooked. That was disappointing since they were mentioned as a chef's favorite. Chef apologized and sent a pork cheeks appetizer to the table. Pork cheeks were excellent. It should be offered as a main with gnochi. Steaks were replaced with a properly cooked version and chicken since my partner didn't want another steak. Second steak was delicious. The chicken was very good. Wine corkage is $20 a bottle which is fair. I'd give them another shot but I'm not in a rush to do that.
Service was outstanding. Loved everything about this restaurant!
Great food and great service. I would go back again!
Our 2nd visit. Previous one was a week before and I gave 5 stars then. What happened?
Food once again outstanding but the the place has issues.
We were given a table close to entrance with constant cold air flow in my back. 2 attempts were not enough to get a decent gin martini. Bread was forgotten. Service was friendly but inexperienced.
I commented on the cold « dayliight » lighting before. This time the noise level reached level to make it unpleasant.
Might give the place another given the food but clearly needs be tightened up.
High quality of food and ingredients in a variety of styles - some light, some simple, some rich, some ingredient-based fresh salads. It’s a cut above most other restaurants in Northern New Jersey. Now has a liquor license while still being byob.
food was excellent. Octopus was best I ever had. My wife loved her salad (can't remember which one) and duck. My bison dish could have been served warmer. Service was impeccable.
While the decor is very nice, sober and classy. I did not like the "day light" lightening which produces a somewhat cold atmosphere. would replace by softer lightening.
Overall very nice experience. We'll be back.
Hands down our favorite restaurant!
I was a little concerned that with the acquisition of a new liquor license that WB would be priced out of our restaurant rotation - but I'm happy to say that the new drink menu is exciting, different and most of all reasonably priced! It adds to the meal and completes the experience.
We had the pork check and octopus appetizers which were a great start to our meal. We then settled into the bison, duck, monk fish dinners and again everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food. We had a Xmas party to go to so we didn't stay for dessert.
However, I got to spend some time with Chef/Owner Sam and discussed his ideas around food and how he looks at his menu's with his seasonal approach to them and I enjoyed the conversation. Till next time.
Delicious restaurant!! A great add to Chester. Highly recommend!!
The food and service were excellent - pork cheeks with Romesco sauce and octopus appetizers were very tasty. Arctic char and duck entrees plus inventive accompaniments continued the excellence. The service was attentive but not intrusive, informed, and passionate. A memorable meal!
Hands down one of the best restaurants in Morris county
Service was amazing
Going back very soon
Bringing friends and spreading the word
A wonderful night from beginning to end
Food was excellent!
Food was delicious. Loved the combinations and freshness. Tuna poke was fantastic and the mushroom risotto was super creamy but not too rich. Everyone I was with really enjoyed their meal.
The menu was eclectic with enough choices for everyone at the table. The food was delicious and prepared perfectly. My only disappointment was the lack of choices on the dessert menu. We did suggest adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream to the apple crisp dessert and noticed that it started going out that way as we were leaving. And please add a seasonal mocktail to the menu! We’ll definitely be back!
White Birch is one absolute favorite farm to table restaurants in NJ. The food is fantastic, the staff is excited about their offerings and into making your experience wonderful. Thank you you never disappoint!!
The food and service at White Birch is amazing. The ambiance and the vibe are so very New York City. You will love it here!
With one exception, my wife and I had a wonderful evening at White Birch. The food and service were A+. The only damper was the noise level. In addition to the sound from the diners, there was an intermittent humming noise coming from the level below the restaurant, which sounded like a automatic garage door opening. I don't know if the other diners heard this noise, but it was certainly disturbing to us and put a damper on the evening.
Delicious food and great service! We will definitely return.
Best meal in a long time in this area! Inventive, balanced and delicious!!
First visit, we're top 30 restaurant groupies, snd White Birch easily belongs in this category. Warm ambiance, awesome service, impeccably prepared food presented picture ready for Saveur Magazine.
Must haves are the Octopus starter, and the Duck Breast main course. The halibut dish was perfectly cooked and we loved their support to and relationship with local farmers. And the sauces, oh the sauces!
A must go
Everyone at the White Birch was wonderful, pleasant, and extremely helpful. We had a fantastic experience and will definitely be back soon. Casey the hostess and Erin our server were absolutely perfect and made the evening a total success with friends.
Dine here regularly. Entrees are interesting and prepared perfectly. I LOVE White Birch!
We love love going to White Birch the staff, the menu options, how the food is constructed and atmosphere combine to create such a wonderful experience. We love that the menus change with seasons and Tony only do they support the local farming community but actually list they buy their food from.
I specifically told them that I didn’t eat pork. I ordered the chicken with bacon jam and asked them to hold the bacon jam. When my fish arrived i was told that the bacon jam was mixed in with the vegetables. I sent it back , had to wait for another version and by that time my friends had finished eating. They should have listened to me the first time around
The restaurant is immaculate. Beautifully-decorated, with thoughtful food and happy service. Definitely recommend.
Beautiful space, delicious food, just a really nice experience. We will certainly be back.
From the moment we entered the restaurant we were warmly greeted and this lovely warmth and attentiveness continued throughout our visit. The staff was knowledgeable, professional and gave us five star service. The food was absolutely divine. Everything was perfectly prepared and presented. The portions were ample and the farm to table ingredients were so fresh and delicious. White Birch is a wonderful find and on par with any top NYC restaurant.
Place was nice, but the food was tasteless, and there were only like 5 items on the menu.
The food is delicious. Always very creative and flavorful. We enjoy the different selections they offer each time we visit and some of our favs that are always available like the goat cheese toast, yummy. The service is outstanding. Our only issue is the restaurant is very loud and it is hard to hear. They need something to deaden the sound but it never detour us from going there. One of our favorite places to eat.
The food was delicious!!! But it was so loud that we didn't want to stay for dessert.
This farm to table restaurant offers numerous choices expertly prepared and presented beautifully. The service was friendly and professional. The only issue was a high noise level even on a weeknight.
I would recommend it.
Outstanding, delicious, personable staff! Highly recommend this place!!!
Amazing food, impeccable service! Always a treat!!
We waited over an hour and a half post order for our entrees before giving up and leaving. Appetizers came after 15 minutes, which was fine. Salad took an additional 45 minutes, then we left after another 35-40 min. The server claimed that our orders were behind a large party, but other tables that came later had their food sooner...my poor wife was watching a woman at the next table eat the SAME entree she ordered 20 minutes before they even sat down! Are you kidding me! We felt lied to and treated badly.
In the end, the manager didn’t charge us, despite our insistence and preference to pay, and was truly apologetic... but she let us walk out without something tangible to get us back in the future (e.g. gift certificate). This is unfortunate as we are local and like to patronize local businesses.
As for the food, the dishes that made it to our table were quite good, though the beet salad was very small for the price...again it was excellent though. It’s hard to be objective as the negative experience took the shine off of what was supposed to be a special evening for my wife and I.
For their sake, I hope White Birch ownership invests in better training for their servers and a process to ensure customers aren’t forgotten.
Food was amazing as usual! We had the toast with the goat cheese from Valley Shephard, the beet salad, which was to die for! It had a whipped ricotta and honey topping with pistacios - really amazing. My husband had the mushroom risotto and I had the chicken with Bacon Brussel Sprout jam! Delicious meal, waitress was fabulous. Never rushed us. Great Service. Thank you
The food was exquisite. From presentation to taste to seasonings. Bravo, Chef! I love farm to table with a huge garden adjacent to the restaurant and utilize only local farm/meat purveyors. The menu isn’t extensive and I find that refreshing. Six courses are offered, each with 2-3 options and a few more dinner meal options-2 fowls, 2 fish, 1 red meat (Bison) & 1-2 veg.
Generally beets, mushrooms & squashes were the common theme among all dishes. Salads & soups were a variation of those veggies. The lettuce was fresh and crisp. The octopus appetizer was this birthday girl’s favorite.
My son & I had the Bison. It was cooked to perfection. I only got to taste a tiny portion since my son ate his and mine. My mother (who is very hard to please) had the duck which I tried. Phenomenal! I have to say it and the duck ravioli were excellent. I would have liked a bit more crispness on the skin but that wasn’t a criticism, simply my preference.
The bread alone has needs to be complemented as it’s made in house. I also loved the herbed butter. Deserts were also made inhouse and the goat cheesecake blew us away. The lavender fruit was spectacular.
I loved the simplicity of decor, cleanliness of the restaurant, presentation of the building and food. I liked the uniform of servers & their friendliness. You didn’t have to wonder who is that bringing water or cleaning up as they all introduced themselves! Very friendly!
There were 3 points which are minute (.1 deductions each). One was the noise level. It was loud in the whole restaurant, servers and patrons had a hard time hearing each other. Second, the crumbs off the table should be taken care of by the wait staff. Finally, our waitress was great and did answer our questions but she didn’t know the menu for our table and others as we overheard.
They are about to open their bar with their newly acquired liquor license! For now, it’s a BYO. Later, it’ll simply have a corking fee.
