Had the lamb and it was great
fantastic service. will definitely be back!
Really attentive service, plenty of wines available by the glass at reasonable prices and very good food. New owner took over only a few months before Covid19 shut down and has done a great job hiring and training really good staff. We will go back next time we're in Carmel.
I wouldn’t go again(( from whole 6 items I did like just one, my kebab was raw,
As always, the service, food and ambiance were excellent. Just wish we lived nearer and o visit more often!
Food was ok., not gourmet. Very simple decor. Service was ok too.
While we had enjoyed Yafa as take out, our in restaurant experience was quite disappointing. We requested seating outside. We were delayed from our reservation time by 15 minutes. After we sat down it took time to give drink orders, more time to get them, long wait for waiter and very long time for apps and entrees. All in all, it took nearly 3 hours from start of seating until last dish served. While the food was generally good, ravioli was dried out from heat lamp and the wait dampened our whole experience. The staff did not show much interest in the fact that we had waited so long!!
Outstanding service a d food
Overpriced, service is not great.
Chairs and table from Costco and look cheap. Not adequate to the price range.
Overall everything was well balanced. From the delicious food portions to the warm staff that helps is out. I would recommend anyone that is craving great tasting Mediterranean food to stop by and dine!
" Poor service, tiny portions, on the expensive side, only good is the food"
I took a couple of weeks to write this review, as I really wanted to have time at hand to write it.
We went there 2 weeks back as the party of 8. The only good thing I can say is the ' taste of the food', it was delicious. I frequent Carmel and have dined at numerous restaurants, all the places are on the ' expensive side', but at least the service is exceptional and portion sizes are decent.
At Yafa, the portion sizes are extremely small.
We had to keep asking for pita bread, and finally almost when we were done with our food, 1 side of pita bread arrived. Even after spending close to 350-400$, they charged us 1.5$ for 3 tiny pieces of pita. Usually, I wouldn’t have had an issue with that, but this time, after asking for it like 6 times, it arrived when we were almost about to leave. We didn't feel 'content' with our experience and our food.
We asked the manager( I think), who was serving us if he thinks the portion would be enough for one, he quite rudely answered, ' I don't know, but it won't be enough for even one '. Won't be going back here again nor recommend this place to anyone.
The food at Yafa was outstanding. The service from the owners themselves waiting tables was truly a delight. They brought us champagne on the house and had an amazing array of specials that evening. The only negative was when one of the owners announced to all the diners that the service was slow because of the extension of unemployment benefits and then proceeded to badmouth the current administration. He seem to realize pretty quickly that this was unnecessary and inappropriate so he stopped. It was odd that he stood up and made this political statement to a group of people that were there trying to support his business. I think he was just truly at his wits end because they were very busy and he clearly did not have enough staff. Luckily, the food made up for this unfortunate incident.
Yafa is a mom and pop small cozy restaurant. I don’t know exact date but business was sold during Covid 2020 to present owner Dia. Delightful man, energetic and friendly. Service people aren’t trained ( dirty, used dishes left on table way too,long- no follow up “ how is your food, etc) — my son and I had octopus appetizer- very good flavor but tougher than a 50cent steak. When I told Dia, ( just info not a complaint) he said, “really.”?
They are trying hard but the reality is in Carmel there are way too many better choices.
There’s a market for Mediterranean food. I hope he gets properly trained chef and staff.
Excellent staff and quality food
Everything was great. Food, service and ambiance. However the amount of Gorgonzola on the filet was a bit much, but all I had to do was scrape it off and use on my pita bread.
Yummy food, super friendly service ! Will return 😊
Great service! Very attentive staff. Loved the venue. Delicious and beautifully prepared entrees and appetizers. Thank you for the special touches with the birthday dessert and sweet port!
We can’t wait to return!
A good alternative to all the Italian and American restaurants in Carmel. Well prepared dishes accompanied by attentive service. Assessable wine list. Charming owner. A good Mediterranean /middle east food choice. Bravo!
Brought friends who had never been to Yafa— they were resistant at first, but I explained this is the best kept secret in Carmel, so they agreed to come along. We all had an amazing time; great wine list and not overpriced, and the food was spectacular as always.
Food was okay, and a little undercooked. Prices a bit high, so didn't feel like it was a great value. We sat outside and it took 20 min to turn on the heaters and one was broken and they pretended like it was working. We had to repeatedly request the heaters be turned on. Perhaps this would be a better experience indoors after Covid.
Outstanding service, ambience, and food. We ate at 4 restaurants in Carmel and this was our favorite!
Interesting menu and prompt service. Food was delicious. I had the lobster ravioli and it was wonderful. My husband had the rack of lamb and loved it. Affogato for dessert was fabulous. We will definitely go again.
Love this place. Best babaganoush ever.
Delicious meal and a delightful host. We were very happy to discover Yafa.
Great place to celebrate our 3rd month anniversary.
Loved the ambience, food and the hospitality.
Definitely recommend !!
Sorry, OpenTable. This won't be short or simple.
We had not tried Yafa until now. We routinely do Middle Eastern/Mediterranean cuisine at home, so we tend to do Continental and local cuisines. Glad we made an exception. Two things that shouldn't be missed. No, three. The meza, which is a lovely variety of appetizers including humus, vegetables, feta cheese, dips, pita and olives. The octopus: I don't often do it at home, because it is a pain. Most of the time I have to go to a lot of trouble to even get it. Cleaning it is - well - never mind. Most of the time it needs to be pressure cooked before grilling. And frequently, it isn't so good in restaurants. Petros, in Santa Barbara (sadly closed) and Iberia in Belmont were and are superb. Yafa met and exceeded expectations. Flavourful and fork-tender. Now, the best. We ordered a Gorgonzola Filet Mignon for take away, as one of our family was unable to attend. When we arrived at our hotel, we discovered that the restaurant had provided us with actual cutlery (!) We enjoyed a 2016 Avantis Estate dry white blend with the meza and octopus. I was fortunate enough possess a bottle of Chateau Musar 'Hochar' to accompany the filet mignon.
Very casual, outside dining dog-friendly, and a real 'find'.
Excellent dinner and service! We had the Mezza plate and enjoyed lamb kabob ( amazing) , eggplant, and salmon. Two shared desserts were outstanding! we'll be back.
We've gone to Yafa several times. Food and service are consistently very good!
Simply incredible hospitality. Don’t second guess, just go. One of the finest restaurant experiences of my life!
We dined outside and our waiter (Dia) was very attentive and kind. We had our dog with us and she was very welcome as well. Great food, loved that Yafa is not in the center of town, very nearby but not as hectic. Great experience!
Excellent food, eclectic, wonderful taste and presentation. We came for the the second time and will return for sure in future.
The service and food were exceptional! We went back a second night and look forward to going back again! The owners were so friendly and made our experience extra special!
One of our favorite restaurants. Creative and interesting menu, great food, friendly and attentive service. We took two friends who had never been there and they loved it.
The owner was simply charming and gracious. He treated me to a tasting of cava while I waited to order. I had the lamb shish kebab – – it was delicious. The baklava likewise was wonderful. And I especially enjoyed the house wine and some lovely bread and cheese. It’s a very pleasant sidewalk setting, Covid safe, with plenty of heaters to ward off the night chill. This will become a regular spot, and it seems it already is by the rest of the locals.
First time at Yafa.
Loved the food and friendliness of the waitstaff.
We appreciated the heaters as it was later on in the day.
Certainly will come back.
Excellent dinner! The food and service were both fantastic.
I was there for my birthday, it was pretty good food, unfortunately because of Covid and limited seating we had to wait longer and ate on the sidewalk table. I think they were sunning short on staff that day but even that food didn’t took that long. Pretty good tasty food.
Seating outside wasn’t that fun because it was cold and uneven surfaces and pretty dark but I will definitely go back for the food.
Great experience. Great meal. They did everything to make our experience special. Had a great small family restaurant feel. I hope we get to spend our next several anniversary dinners here.
So amazing!!! We love this place so much!! We celebrated my love’s birthday here. A must go to every time we are in Monterey!!! Their flavors are authentic, the meat is lean, the desserts are delicious (especially the Baklava)!!
