locally raised lamb with mint-jalapeno sauce
layered eggplant, zucchini, mushrooms & mozzarella, choice of vegetarian or ground beef
free-range chicken breast
Wonderful delicious food and great service, can’t get much better.
The service and the Mediterranean cuisine were very good, but the restaurant was
very noisy with loud background music, making conversation very difficult.
Good for a group get together, but perhaps not for a romantic meal out.
The olives, hummus and chicken shawarma plate, and the chicken mushaka
rolls appetizers were all delicious. I enjoyed my huge portion of couscous though the braised lamb that came with it was a bit dry. My husband liked his moussaka with beef though he said it was a bit salty and lacking in eggplant, and he should have ordered the vegetarian version which another dinner companion declared
to be the best moussaka she ever ate. Overall, the prices were reasonable, the food was tasty and filling, and the service was good.
Excellent food and service
Food greasy and not very flavorful
Food is excellent and we loved the kubba, very well made, we used to eat a lot of those in brasil and finally found a great one! We’ll be back for sure! Great staff too.
I am a big fan of Zaytoon and have always been impressed with the food and the professional, friendly service. My latest experience, a birthday lunch for a friend, was a disappointment. The food was good, as usual, but the service was so poor that I was embarrassed. For example, when I asked at 1pm if we could sit at one of the four empty tables for four, I was told yes but we would have to move if they needed the table. They didn't. When the server brought a steak knife, she placed the blade facing me. I would still recommend Zaytoon for the food with sincere hopes that my last experience was an aberration.
We went for lunch on Saturday. We tried eggplant salad, halloumi salad, lentil soup, and shuarma! All entries were fantastic! The staff is friendly and accommodating. We definitely recommend the place and will come back.
The salads, cauliflower and eggplant were fantastic. The service was quick and friendly. We loved all the dishes and they were generous. My only complaint is that the cocktails didn't match the quality of the food.
The post-pandemic version of Zaytoon was not at all up to its pre-pandemic standards of gracious hospitality and delicious food on the Sunday night our party of four were there. Even though we had a reservation, we waited more than fifteen minutes after everyone was seated (two of our party had arrived 5 minutes before and had water) with no attention from a server. There seemed to be plenty of servers? Finally, we flagged someone down, who then took all of our order at the same time. The starters and salads came all at the same time, and the mains came before we had finished those. So we ended up rushed in eating due to the lag in their attention when we first sat down at 7pm. The food, while good, was not the delicious Zaytoon meal we had come across town for. The spicing seemed stingy, and the balance of several dishes was off. Finally, we let restaurant know, in advance, that we were celebrating the birthdays of the two of the four of us, along with the birthday celebrants very recent engagement to each other. We also reminded the person who seated us of this fact. Nada, nothing.....no candle on the dessert, no complimentary anything, etc. All in all, a disappointment. However, we give them a little leeway because the pandemic. We will likely try one more time, but if the slip in both the service and the food remains....?
Zaytoon is a gem of Mediterranean flavors, attentive service, and lovely ambiance.
We've been supporting Zaytoon for years because of the fantastic dining experience. Dishes are well executed. Once seated, the staff make a solid effort to meet your needs. Maybe a testament of their success is having to wait to get seated (even if you have reservations), which can be frustrating sometimes but definitely not a deal breaker. All in all, a great place that you should try if you haven't yet.
IT was an amazing experience. The Meze Platter and the entrees ( Makloubeh and Mansaf ) were PERFECT. the service was excellent. We sat outside and tyhe music was quite loud and we asked our server to lower the volume and he did immediately. The dessert was amazing too : Crumbled baklawa with Ice cream and Knafeh. We will back soon. Good Job ZAYTOUN !
Wonderful service, good creative food, ambiance was lively but not loud. So great so see this part of Solano back alive with restaurants and shops.
Very good mediterranean food. Good service. Indoor and outdoor seating.
Great food !
Coming from a Palestinian woman - all of the food here is phenomenal and I really appreciate the variety. The staff are wonderful and the music is native. Appreciate it all.
This is a repeat wonderful visit and the meal was outstanding
We shared 4 appetizers: Arabic cheese, grape leaves, kubba and musakhan rolls
For entrees, gambri (shrimp) and scallop, Maklouba and moussaka ( the best I ever had)
We couldn't resist dessert: the tahini sundae and crumbled baklava- so delicious
Our server was friendly and attentive and the dishes came quickly
Overall, a stellar meal
Best restaurant in Albany
First time at Zaytoon. Loved it. Great local restaurant…I will definitely be back.
the music was a bit loud hard to have a conversation at times! Otherwise everything else was okay!
We will go back. The food was great. The only glitch was that my wife ordered a beet salad and because she has a small appetite a lamb appetizer as her main dish. They brought the appetizer first and had a hard time understanding beet salad first. Not a deal breaking problem.
I am so happy to find such a nice restaurant serving delicious food in a comfortable setting . Really nice . My husband and I had a sweet evening and found the food … though we liked some things better than others … to be excellent quality . Will definitely be back.
Beautifully decorated restaurant, simple and elegant Mediterranean design. Great appetizers -- dolma and shrimp/scallops kebab, the hollum (spelling?) salads was great and liked the main course -- but would probably like to try something else next time. Would definitely come back for more and have already recommended it to friends.
Meat (kofta kabab) was overcooked. Well seasoned but too dry.
Service was slow and "forget've". Must have asked for milk with the coffee 4 times.
This is our new sit down Mediterranean food location.
the hummus plate = AMAZING. we had it with the chicken sharwarma. YUM. pita bread, yum. I had the shish tauok, amazing. the rice and veggies too. My husband had the lamb kabob, he said was awesomme., and the side of sauce that came with the lamb was delish.
All and all, we will be back to this place.
oh yeah, and the cocktails were awesome as well. :)
Tasty food, Excellent service, Good mixed drinks. Reservations highly recommended.
Such a great place - both for lunch or dinner. Amazing food and super comfy ambience. One of our Solano Ave gems for sure!
Great outdoor patio/ parklet. Excellent food- we had the spanocapita, veggie kebabs, and couscous w braised lamb. Wine was also very good!
I’m always happy to find a restaurant that offers several vegan, or vegan-friendly choices. We had a delightful vegan meal including the shorba soup, the vegetable kebabs, and the mudjadara. Everything was beautifully prepared with good depth of flavor. Our server was a perfect mix of professional but still warm and welcoming.
Loved our cocktails (the Habibi), the various kebabs (Shish Taouk, and the Beef), and all of the appetizers (spanikopita, Musakahn roll, fried cauliflower, and the arugula salad. The restaurant has someone for everyone - my vegetarian husband, dairy-free daughter and steak-loving daughter. Just rediscovered it, and have been there twice this month. Nice atmosphere and works for a casual or special meal. They have a parklet too, for those who prefer to eat outdoors.
The Kibbe was outstanding. The grilled lam cubes over Couscos was cooked to perfection. The Zahra appetizer was excellent. The halloumi salad and Fattoush salad are exquisite. Our server recommended a fabulous white wine. The service was attentive and the ambience is inviting. The best value in the area. Qudos to Zaytoon.
Highly recommend the hummus plate! The Arabic cheese is delicious, but a tad small.
Sheltered outdoor dining available. Food as always is spot on. Service was prompt. Server had a mask on. Original takes on cocktails. The one thing I wished for was more patio heaters. They only had it at select tables and our table was a bit cold.
The very best food in The Eastbay!
I initially ordered moussaka, then heard the server speak highly of the shawarma when my lunch companion ordered it. I decided to get it as well--it was really, really good!
Zaytoon is always delicious. The noise level is disturbing, however. The owners should baffle the walls and ceiling.
We hadn't been here since pre-covid. But, we met our friends, another couple, last night at Zaytoon. Oh, it was good! Complementary crackers and olive oil, and spices to start. We got a mazza plate of appetizers to share, which we all loved. Our entrees were out of sight. When we got home, we decided it was well worth driving from Marin to Albany, just to have such a delicious meal. Oh, and the restaurant has well-separated tables, and appealing decor inside, as well as outdoor seating.
Had a delicious lunch at Zaytoon, the wraps were the perfect size. The fries were particularly fantastic- crispy on the outside, creamy and potato-y on the inside. Also really enjoyed the hummus plate with mushrooms too.
First time back after the pandemic and I am happy to say that my favorite foods remain as perfectly made as they were before The pandemic. The spanakopita is always divine. The rosé is perfect with the spanakopita. And the dessert to have is the ice cream with baklava! It is so sweet and unusual.
I love Zaytoon, and their Crumbled Baklava w/Vanilla Ice Cream dessert is one of the best ever!
