Zingari Ristorante + Jazz Bar
First of all - the service was top notch. Very attentive. Took our order right away for appetizer (very small mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto) and then came back to take our dinner order. Coming by to refill the water and wine glasses often. Food came quickly. I had the braised short rib in pasta and it was so good. Big portions for the main course. My husband had the lamb chops and he really liked those too. The only issue is the setting. We were seated near the bar area and the tables are really close. We could hear the conversations next to us. Not an intimate setting at all but the food and service were excellent.
Dining rooms (yes, there are several) are ”sterile” and have no ambience. But food ls top-notch and staff friendly and very service-minded. I can recommend the fish soup.
Inattentive service. Lack of attention. Bread was forgotten, tap water mixed with sparkling in the glass despite bottle at table...
The automatic inclusion of 20% service may have resulted in disregard to clients needs.
We were not told there would be a $50 charge per head when I made the reservation and would have like more transparency on Open Table reservations or on the website with a note about JPM.
The chicken tasted like plastic. Very disappointed.
Ridiculous pricing. Took 15 mins to seat us. And we were only there for 35 minutes. $560 bill for 8 people for buffet which was meh. The coffee drinks were not included in the $50 per person buffet. Ridiculous.
Charged $280 for a dish without explaining why. Apparently minimum $50 charge per person
Very busy in spite of booking had to wait to check in.
A levy of minimum $50 plus fixed service charge plus taxes.
A very over priced lunch !!
Food mixed - one pasta dish not fully cooked.
the food was more than great but the experience was extremely unpleasant. the staff members were rude and extremely unprofessional.
The food was excellent, but the ambience felt like I was in a diner... cold and unfeeling. Thank goodness there was music!
Good Italian that's reasonably priced (especially given the location) and attentive, friendly service. It's not the best Italian but it's good Italian and a great location to go for a pre-theatre meal if you're headed to ACT or Curran or other events in the Union Square area. Good for groups too.
Service is outstanding. Food was delicious. I’m not from San Francisco, so price was higher than what I’m used to, but I also know this is what dining is in SF. Can’t say enough about the waitstaff - attentive, made great suggestions, two of them shook my hand as I was leaving and seemed genuinely glad to talk to me. Only improvement - if I had been sitting with a view of the harbor - but the restaurants along there were booked out until later. I was able to get in immediately which was why I decided to try Zingari. Great experience.
The food simply wasn't up to scratch for the price. There was a sprout starter that included bacon bits which were hard and overcooked, when we said this to the waiter he simply said that's the way it should be! Haven eaten in Italy frequently I completely disagree. The mains were average. So poor service and ok food at hefty price tag, disappointing.
The room with the music is cramped. Not sure if it was planned or not but a gentleman brought in his own trumpet and started playing with the 3-piece band. A trumpet in such a small space when you are dining was too much noise for the room. Had it been later and closer to late night dining or supper, definitely appropriate but over dinner not so much.
Forgotten drink and service was slow considering how few people were seated when we first arrived.
We enjoyed our night but likely wouldn’t go back.
The choice was not incredible. The food did not leave us a memorable experience. It seems the owner/ manager gives more importance to his regulars than to his first time customers- which is fair- but it should not be that obvious. Overall good but pricey and there is better alternative out there.
The food was mediocre. Our group of 11 dined here on New Year's Eve and they had a special prix fixe menu (4 courses for $125/person). Unfortunately, the food was very underwhelming and not worth it for us. Since we had a big group, we got to try a lot of different things. The first courses were good (although they did forget about mine), but the second courses, main dishes, and desserts were so mediocre and lacked flavor. Took a long time and to our dismay it was not worth the wait. No one in our group finished their main dishes and desserts! Also, we never heard or saw the live band which is a big reason our group chose this spot. I wouldn't recommend this spot, there are many other better Italian restaurants.
Enjoyed a 4 course meal for NYE! Many dishes to choose from, just the right amount to enjoy from each course. The pasta was fresh and cooked perfectly. The restaurant itself is simple elegance.
Since it was raining, we were looking for a restaurant near the hotel. Came across this place and what a wonderful experience we had. We were greeted by the owner of the restaurant who is filling in for his son and it was just a wonderful experience he made for us. He helped us with our wine selection and meal selections and did amazing job at both. Can’t wait to return
All deliciousness as usual. The restaurant never disappoints. Great selection of wine.
My first time in San Francisco and I hit the jackpot with Zingari! The service was excellent and the food even better. I had the
ORECCHIETTE and it was fresh, light and delicious! Size of the dishes is perfect for enjoying several courses without getting too full
We were pretty disappointed in our experience. Overall everything was ok at best but at a premium price. We were a party of 2 looking for a nice Christmas Dinner and our reserved table was in a room with 3 other very large loud parties. We couldn’t even hear each other talking it was so loud. The food was ok but not worth the price tag and the service was slow - probably because the server was tending to so many large parties we were left to the side. There was also an automatic 20% gratuity added to the check without explanation.
It was good. Wine service was a little slow. Good was delicious.
From drinks at the bar to dessert at the end, the evening was delightful and delicious. Would highly recommend.
The owners stories were great! It was really nice that he came to our table and made us feel welcome! :)
This place was great! It was one of the few places open for Christmas and the food was very tasty. While prices are somewhat expensive, the food is unique, and the service is great. Seems like a great family or get-together place for high end Italian soul food. I would definitely recommend it and I will most likely be returning.
The food was great and the service exceptional! Amazing servers and ambience. It was a wonderful experience and worth it 100%
20%. Remember when tipping was optional?
My wife ordered the Rigatoni pasta, it's a "primo"(so you are supposed to order a main dish with this) but not everyone gets the Italian ordering thing, and, this is America AND everyone working here is from Serbia, so I don't get it.
My wife had 17 pieces of Rigatoni. (Yep I totally counted.) I had about 10 strands of fettuccine. Take a look at the pics if you don't believe me. We also had 2 appetizers, polenta with mushrooms and 2, yes 2 mozzarella ball things. Smaller than a golf ball folks. The total
Price for 2 glasses of wine, less than a pound of pasta, was over $200. Stupid prices friends for marginal food. Upside - nice staff and you are taking care of the peeps.
The hint I missed was the in the name Zingari (Italian for Gypsy). Don't eat here. You can do better. I am a local I just thought I'd give this place a try. None of these places ever lower their prices or give you more. This is about making money (and I am cool with that) So - let me take the hit. Plenty of other places. Rock on.
Overall the food was not very good and the service was just ok. What I didn’t care for was the 20% service fee on our bill. We were a family of 4 so I wasn’t expecting this kind of charge for our small party. It is very unusual and I wished I had known before choosing this restaurant.
Food was good, service solid. We ate in bar, music was good but we expected “jazz”. It was not jazz evening we were there.
We had a great experience from beginning to end. The food was amazing. Will definitely go back.
Extremely noisy; especially giving the fact that we were not even seated with the life music so this was just people noise.
My note was not taking into consideration given the fact that I was asked to leave a special note for my girlfriends graduation.
Intimate atmosphere and good service.
Food tasted good but not worth the price tag.
If it wasn’t so obnoxiously noisy, we might have had a good experience.
PS: Avoid sitting besides a large party.
Amazing food and great service
Cool architectural details, the Negroni is excellent and the crab ravioli is sublime
Not for those who want a quiet dinner. Good food and I could converse with my dinner partners with ease but my spouses elderly parents couldn’t follow conversations because it was too loud.
Three of us enjoyed an excellent meal. It was an evening where there were multiple office Christmas parties, so the noise level was unusually high. Fortunately before we finished our first course the group of 14 left our room and it was peacefully quiet with the lovely sounds of live jazz in the bar. We all agreed it was delightful and we would come here again.
Charming and private feel, and really excellent service. We didn't encounter any issues with our visit, but were greeted and served by the manager and a very capable team. Our water was never empty but we did not feel hovered over. We chose Zingari because of proximity to the Curran where we were seeing the two-part Harry Potter and the Cursed Child performance. Out 4:30 reservation let us out with the perfect amount of time to get seated for the second show. The food was delicious, and the desserts especially were masterfully done. Highly recommended!
We visited with a larger group in between theater showings and Zingari was conveniently located and easy to make a reservation with for the early dinner time we needed. The food was phenomenal and all Of the waitstaff was very friendly and great. Would absolutely return!
The food was great but the jazz musician was frumpy and late starting.
The waitress blamed the fact that she couldn't speak English well on the confusion about our order.
I enjoyed the ambiance. I thought the service was a little bit slow but it was a very busy night. The scallop appetizer was very good, but the fettucini was a bit too al dente for me and the lamb chops were very well-done/overcooked. The sauce was good though.
