Nothing fancy here, but pretty good food. We go here regularly, mainly for the quality of the food. Service is a bit sketch. Food seems to arrive out of order regularly and if there is more than one diner, the odds of everyone's order arriving within a reasonable interval are slim. Last visit, my daughter side order of broccolini was the first thing delivered, before anyone's starter or salad! Her main arrived 15 minutes later!! But service quirkiness aside, it is still one of our favorites. Feel assured ordering the duck breast, a pizza (margherita is one of my favorites), or even a hamburger. I always have the Kumamoto oysters which have always been fresh, as they must be! The menu varies but the pork chop and t-bone are all good. We have been for lunch a few times as well and we always find something good. Even you just feel like a soup and a salad it is a good destination to consider.
Wonderful evening. Bottle of Veuve paired with the Fig app and great service, landed me a second date. Thank you!
Nice all around. I’d definitely return.
Fun-we had lunch at the bar; great food and service. I enjoyed the BLTA panini and the Maltese cocktail was very good/very balanced. great service
Good service, good food. Conversations can be a little difficult due to noise level.
The Brussel sprouts are worth the trip alone! But the rest of our lunch was high quality, beautifully prepared and presented. We loved it!
I haven't been to this restaurant for a couple of years. Recently had a concert at Zellerbach and thought we would go back. It seriously has gone down hill! It used to be a delightful restaurant and good food. My recent experience with a party of 3 was terrible. We ordered pizza, salads, appetizers all tasteless and seriously terrible. They must have changed chefs because it definitely is not at the caliber it was a couple of years ago! I will never go back.
I recommend Zut reservedly because, although the pizzas are good, the overall quality and value just aren’t there. For example eight grilled rather skinny asparagus on a plate do not constitute a starter for nine dollars. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing. Go for the burger or a large salad or pizza for an early dinner and call it a day.
A very pleasant manager greeted us and folk us to our table. A few minutes later he sheepishly returned and asked if we wouldn’t mind changing tables as he had a large group come in. he offered us our choice of tables and said that for our agreement to move, that he would comp us our drinks! That is beautiful customer service! Especially when the cocktails were delicious!
So we sat on the patio surrounded by twinkly lights and We shared several dishes: roasted Brussel sprouts, figs on a bed of lemony ricotta, a fresh salad of smoked salmon and caprese. All of which were prettily plated and very tasty! Finished off with a cappuccino - the night was lovely !
There was a particularly loud table near us tonight, but usually when we go in the noise level is a bit lower. They changed the house Manhattan recipe recently, and I didn’t notice until I started drinking it. Not so good this version. But it’s a great place with nice folks, generally awesome bar program, and good food. One of our local faves.
Good bar abd bartenders, lovely atonosphere on 4th St; locatiobn great.
Very solid good food, a perfect place for lunch. Bright and airy with very friendly and efficient staff.
This was our first time there and we can’t wait to go back. Definitely worth the trip from Marin. Wonderful waiter, exquisite food, innovative and so delicious!
The menu changed. I came for Filet Mignon, their famous roasted grapes and their most incredible flourless chocolate cake with ice cream. All three items had been taken off the menu. So disappointed. I had pizza. It was ok.
Lovely outdoor bistro feel. Not a culinary juggernaut
New jobs celebration. Everything was perfect.
Speaking from the vantage of many years international travel/restaurants Zut Tavern ranks right up there with the best ... although the name didn’t inspire my confidence the experience was memorable.
We have been dining there for more than two years now
This place is our usual stop when coming in from out of town. The food is always great as are the servers.
Love this place - got a table at the end on the patio for the fur babies and the food was delicious as always! - fig with lemon ricotta for starter and the fungi wood fired pizza - all their pizzas rock btw!
Well, it was all delicious and super friendly service. But our very expensive dinner ended badly with digestive issues as soon as we arrived home. Someone didn’t wash their hands or the produce, and we’re paying for it now. Too bad, so sad.
Great food and excellent service- we had a wonderful time on the terrace.
For whatever reason, Sunday night was very quiet at Zut. My friends and I met there and were greeted by our waiter. We asked for water and a minute to decide on drinks and food. He came back too quickly for us, but then we had to wait for him to return. The restaurant wasn't busy, but we were tucked in the curtained room so perhaps he didn't see us. I asked about the soup of the day and he said, "It's sweet potato soup. Like sweet potato puree." That sounded like baby food or something not too good. But, then we heard a different waiter tell another party that the soup was sweet potato soup with a creme fraiche. My friend ordered the duck and had to flag down the waiter to ask for a sharp knife. Generally speaking, the service wasn't the usual attentive service we get. The manager did stop by several times and chat with us and that made up for the MIA waiter. As soon as we declined dessert, our check arrived and they began putting the chairs on the tables to get ready to close. Needless to say, we felt a bit neglected and then rushed out. The food was good, but the burrata and tomato salad could have benefited with a sprinkling of balsamic vinegar. The salmon was bland. The spinach salad was delicious.
Overpriced limited unimaginative menu with food that was very slow to arrive. The wine list was poor so I ordered a martini which was not good. There was an argument over where we could sit and only when I declared the corner where the manager wanted to seat us as “unacceptable” were we seated at a decent table. I would never return.
Nice, not too expensive restaurant with a varied menu and opportunity to dine outside.
Their Proscuito and pear pizza was awesome and they make great burgers and have an interesting cocktail menu
Zut needs to pick up its game and pay more attention to the lack of flavor coming out of the kitchen! The spinach salad and grilled chicken had not been given the benefit of any seasoning at all. I like Zut and it has been our 'go to' place for a burger and martini in a pleasant atmosphere. Perhaps if I stuck to that formula it would have been fine.
We’ve always had great service at Zut and love coming here when we’re in the East Bay. My only request would be to add a grilled or roasted chicken dish to your entree menu.
Service was fabulous. Food and cocktails were very good. Arrived early for the reservation and still got seated right away.
We like Zut a lot and will return regularly. Good food. Nice service.
Another excellent meal at Zut!!
Went there for brunch and it did not disappoint. The food was great and the presentations were very nice. The atmosphere during the day is always open, airy, and bright. They open the doors and you choice to sit inside or out, though it doesn’t seem to matter as everything is open and you feel outside even when you are inside. My only reservation is that the brunch menu is small and selective, but always good.
Love 4th Street and been a costumer for years. Not the quality level it used to be. We think management has decided this is their model now. Service is friendly. Food OK. Cocktails weak and sloppy.
Delicious salads for our lunch with appropriately attentive service. Such a great place for good food in a bright and airy room.
Loved the summer salad cocktail & the coal roasted grapes!
The service was extremely slow! We ordered three courses, each of which came extremely slowly. The family at the table next to ours complained about this slow service as well. And this was happening at around 8 pm when the place was half empty.
The salmon with potatoes we ordered was dismal: poorly prepared with little taste, the potatoes soggy. The lettuce in the Caesar salad was brown on the edges....we sampled three or four different red wines---all so old that they were undrinkable. We settled on a Chardonnay. The first course was quite tasty, however! We had Padron peppers with aoili and breadcrumbs dappled with tiny tomatoes. That was yummy! But overall, a rather disappointing dinner all around!
Only been to brunch here and it was absolutely fantastic!
My favorite lunch spot on Fourth Street. I always order the coal roasted grapes and then read the menu. The fungi pizza is another top pick. Oh, and the cocktails!
Food was great and service was excellent. Easy to park on a Saturday evening.
Good food in a great space. Consistently good
It was simply "ok." The service was great. The staff was professional, super friendly and attentive. The food left a lot to be desired however. It was not high quality by any stretch and pretty overpriced for what it was.
