Restaurant X & Bully Boy Bar
We had a fabulous dinner - the food and service were really terrific. We love going to Restaurant X, and we took my mom who was visiting from FL. She had the duck, which she said was probably the best she had ever had!
Everything was great other than the lamb chops that came out of the kitchen Luke warm. Flavor was good but cold.
Sat by the fireplace. Couldn’t have been nicer. Service excellent, food delicious
We had a taste of ravioli as a free taste. And it was delicious.
Usually excellent. Tonight awful.
We had to wait an hour and a half for a table and we had a reservation!! The mussels were not thoroughly steamed and super fishy.
I love Restaurant X. The service is wonderful. The food is excellent. It has always been my restaurant of choice for a celebration. Also love, love, love their Sunday Brunch.
The food was great. Our waitress, who was fairly new, disappeared for long periods. Service was exceptionally slow This is very unusual
I have never been disappointed in this restaurant. The food, ambience and staff are the best.
Service was subpar had to continually ask for water and bread
It was restaurant week and the place was packed. The food was delicious. We always have an excellent experience here.
Had dinner on a Saturday during Restaurant Week. Place was packed. Very pleased with the Restaurant Week menu selections. Food was outstanding!
We've been to this restaurant before and the food and service lived up to our expectations. We were seated right on time and the four of us all ordered off the special "Hudson Valley Week" 3 course menu. All dishes were excellent. The only problem we encountered was where we were seated. It was a cold night and we were right near the windows and, worse, a door which some diners used to enter and exit. The area was too cold to be used as a seating area and the women at the table never removed their coats. Needless to say, I would refuse to sit in that spot again.
Everything was delicious and service was great.
We love Restaurant X. It’s our go-to place for celebrations large and small, and we always have a wonderful experience from the food to the service to the atmosphere. This time, however, we went during restaurant week, and although the food was marvelous, the rest of our experience was not. Upon arrival, there are always homemade marshmallows as a treat in the lobby. This time, there were napkins and tongs, but no marshmallows. The receptionist said they were being refilled. Okay, that seemed reasonable. We were seated shortly afterward, but the restaurant appeared to be understaffed despite knowing that restaurant week is always quite busy, so our server was rarely around if we needed anything. Dinner itself was fabulous, all four members of our party loved everything. Partway through our main course, however, a large and very loud group of ten people were seated next to us. They were loud, boisterous, and completely oblivious to the fact that they were significantly annoying the rest of the dining room. Normally the clientele here is sedate and respectful—this group was the total opposite. (Husband went to the rest room, marshmallows were still “being refilled”, according to the staff.) After dessert, we had to wait about 20 minutes until our server appeared so we could ask for the check; she simply was not present for most of our time there. When we finally were able to pay and leave, the marshmallows—you guessed it!—were still “being refilled”.
So although the food was wonderful and absolutely up to their usual standards, service and atmosphere were pretty poor and very disappointing. I would hope that in the future, they are more equipped to handle the crowds during restaurant week as well as loud obnoxious patrons who disturb others...
We were all surprised by the lovely lunch. We all had a different starter, lunch and dessert. My mushroom ravioli was tasty. My main course was jumbo shrimp with homemade Pappardelle was superb. Finishing with Strawberry shortcake with homemade whip cream. Definitely will return. Our server was excellent with a great personality, I unfortunately didn't get her name
Very disappointed on my second visit to this restaurant. We were each served a piece of bread that was rock hard and not edible. After it was taken away, the second piece was marginally better.
Both of our main courses were luke warm, rather than hot. The same goes for the coffee.
The server was robotic and unengaging.
Overall, it was mediocre at best, and not worthy of the premium price for the meal.
Will not likely return for a third visit
As always, a wonderful dining experience. Exceptional selection, quality and portions for Restaurant week, few other restaurants compare.
The food was lovely, and the service was excellent but the fact that the window behind us had a huge crack made me nervous. This is a lovely restaurant but it is also quite expensive, so I was surprised that the management would not get this fixed immediately.
I always enjoy Restaurant X, but the restaurant week lunch was by far the best restaurant week lunch I have ever had! The beef short ribs were superb and the liver pate appetizer was rich and delicious without being cloying. Oh, and at restaurant week prices....quite a bargain. But restaurant week or not, Restaurant X is always a value and always delicious.
Wonderful food exceptional service
Appetizer were excellent, beet salad and calamari and rock shrimp tempura. Entrees were fair, short ribs very fatty, Sliced sirloin was tuff.
Friend in from San Francisco....she loved it
Delicious food. The restaurant itself could use some tender loving care!
Wonderful dining...beautiful ambiance ...great service. It was Restaurant week in the Hudson Valley and they have a fabulous menu with loads of great choices. From appetizer thru dessert...5*.
I have been coming to this restaurant for years and it never disppoints. It was all the better because it was Hudson Valley restaurant week; a terrific value. The choices were varied and both our entrees were very good. The salmon tartare, however, was rather tasteless. By no means did it tarnish our overall wonderful experience.
Great Sunday brunch. 17 course, something for everyone. Unlimited Prosecco. Only negative on this day was septic issues. While in line to be seated customers were told about the issue and that it could not be resolved within the next few hours. The septic smell was intense by the entrance. Everyone had the option of leaving. Where I was seated the smell was not bad. It was questionable keeping the restaurant open but the place was packed. Had a great time.
Although we all thoroughly enjoyed Sunday brunch, I had made reservations for lunch during Restaurant Week and was never informed that, contrary to what was on the HVRW site, Restaurant X doesn’t participate in Restaurant Week for lunch on Sunday. When I returned a call to Restaurant X to confirm our reservations, I mentioned Restaurant Week to Max, and again, was never told they only serve brunch on Sundays.
Food was good as always, but the service was TERRIBLE. We had an 8:15 reservation. We weren't seated until 9pm and didn't see our server until 9:15. We ordered a bottle of wine that took over 20 minutes to arrive. We saw our server only once during dinner service. Dessert took a half hour. Waiting for the check after we asked for it took another half hour and it was wrong twice before we finally got the right check and paid. Overall we were in the restaurant, mostly waiting around, from 8:15-11:30! There was a bad smell upon walking in that was like moldy air. The restrooms were a disgusting mess. The ceiling over the bar looked like it might cave in. Overall not the Restaurant X of olde.
Would recommend this restaurant, as the food is consistently very good. Peter Kelly is a wonderful chef. Have been dining here for eons and have never been disappointed with the food or service.
With reservations had a long wait and overly crowded in waiting area. Sewer pumping truck near main entrance and smell by lobby. Restaurant needs some renovations as tables and chairs were very beaten up.
Food still delicious and our server was very good.
Food was very good. Many chaoices for restaurant week. Servce was terrible. Perseco was flat. Soup was cool; not hot enough. The table next to us was seated 20 minutes after we were seated, yet they finnished their meals ahead of us due to delays in our service.
It was Restaurant Week and usually the menu is very limited, but Restaurant X's menu had many choices for all 3 courses. My wife and I had specific limitations due to allergies and medical reasons, yet we had no problem picking out our dishes. And, every dish was simply delicious. Our waitress was very helpful, friendly and attentive. The ambiance was wonderful, especially sitting near the fireplace. This Restaurant is tops on our list for a great dining experience...and they never disappoint.
Wonderful menu with many tempting choices, even though it was Restaurant Week. Our waitress must have been having a bad night, but the food arrrived hot, in a reasonable time. Mr. Kelly stopped at our table and started taking our order, impressive. Every food item was excellent!!
I always take a advantage of Restaurant Week on November & March and go to Restaurant X.
Love & enjoy dining at this restaurant :)
We enjoyed the Restaurant Week menu, both selecting different items. Our only complaint was that we ordered the delicious popovers, but needed to ask 3 times before they appeared midway thru the entree.
The food as usual was excellent. Table service was good. The problem we had was with valet parking. There was only two employees at valet parking and a very busy restaurant on a Friday night. They were very unorganized and when we asked for help from the manager he did nothing. We actually had to find our own cars and then and to top it off the valets begged for tips.
The service was a little slow that day, but overall it's a wonderful dining experience.
This was a very disappointing dining experience. The food is excellent but the service is lacking. We had to find the waitress on 3 occasions. We waited 15 minutes before the waitress appeared to take our cocktail order. At that time we also gave her our wine order, lunch selection and dessert/coffee order. When lunch appeared, we were half way through before I got up to find her for our wine. We finished lunch and then dessert was delivered. Again nearly finished with dessert, I had to find her again to get our coffee delivered. Finally, the bill was presented and returned to her with credit card. I then had to find her for the 3rd time to get the credit card and receipt back. Then she presented us with a different bill because there was a mistake on the first one. This turned to be a very stressful lunch. We will not go back to Restaurant X again.
