If Hogget was what you'd always find at the end of a meandering lane, then life would be pretty darned good. Wonderful setting was the perfect companion for a lovely meal. Beautifully presented, the entreé was an ideal size where each mouthful presented you with the most subtle of tastes. The trout main was a remarkably generous fillet for a freshie, and the spinach wrapped veal was the perfect winter fare - especially on its rich cassoulet base. As for the quince tarte tartin? Spectacular.
Informative, friendly service
Half Bottles available (this is SO refreshing to see Australian winemakers embracing demi bottles)
The 2016 Pinot was perfect
The whipped burnt butter is absolutely to die for!!!
Loved everything about this place, a very special experience.
Venue was easy Tom locate, staff welcomed us at the door, seated quickly. Food and drink service was paced well. Staff were very attentive. Food was exceptional. Certainly will be back again
Date night for hubby and I - 10/10 food wine service
Another great evening had by all - food and service both outstanding. Thank you!
We had a good experience with excellent ambience, service and food.
A beautiful meal, and the service was excellent.
Nice local wine.
Scenery was quite pleasant, looking over the surrounding hills, and vines.
It looks as though the building may be transitioning from a former style, and will probably be lovely when completed.
A fabulous restaurant and the new menu is even better than before! Spectacular food, great personal service, and we will continue to be regulars at this fine establishment. Bravo to all.
Lovely setting. Food was fantastic, everyone enjoyed meal and wine. Will definitely return.
Awesome food, we had the chefs selection; and it was a great choice. Service fantastic and a great location.
The food was awesome, we decided to go with the 5 course chef selection, we loved every course. You can tell by the presentation of the food they love what they do!
I can’t wait to go back soon.
I have eaten here a few times before but the food has risen to a much higher level. It was really beautiful food.
We had chef cook for us and his choices were fabulous. From start to finish the food, wine and service were faultless x
Attention to detail coupled with knowledgeable staff led to a fabulous night and we will be back again soon.
a diamond in the rough, we had no idea it was in our area, we have lived here for 4 years and have been craving a decent quality restaurant.
Trev and the team at Hoggets have done an amazing job, the food was amazing, setting is lovely and my wife and I cant wait to go back and savour some of the other treats on the menu
We thoroughly enjoyed our outstanding 5 course meal courtesy of Trev.
Was not one thing either my wife or myself were served that wasn't utterly delicious.
The serving sizes were very generous, staff were very friendly and attentive.
Wines paired with the food well.
How could I go to hogget and not get the charcuterie, definitely a highlight, as was the treatment of the cruciferous vegetables.
First time I've enjoyed brussle sprouts
I was able to have a keto meal without appearing fussy and having to ask for the meals to be altered.
To have such a high calibre of food in our region is a boon.
Coffee was also great.
The food was amazing & Karlee and the staff made sure that we had everything we needed. The service was fantastic, can’t wait for our next trip there.
As per my scores, outstanding. There is absolutely nothing to find fault with. Just go!
Hogget Kitchen is a firm favourite and my go-to place to enjoy wonderful food and hospitality with friends and family!
Thanks for a great night out. Your staff and food were excellent. We could taste the care and celebration of ingredients. We’re lucky to have you in our area.
Great venue/restaurant, Great service and food was beautiful.
Chef Trev and his team are going to great lengths to create a very special experience.. really excellent!
Superb food experience as good if not better than many Melbourne restaurants!
Great service and spectacular views even in winter.
Look forward to inviting Melbourne friends to share this unique experience.
Our party of six had a fantastic time at this restaurant. Beautiful setting that could be enjoyed through the surrounding floor to ceiling windows. We opted for the "let Trev cook for you" option so we could try a variety of dishes, and it was great value. As indicated by my scores, all facets of our experience were fantastic in an inviting and very comfortable space. We will definitely be coming back.
Beautiful food in a lovely setting but a bit pricey.
Croquets and bread for starters where delicious.
Lamb was beautiful, would definitely order it again.
Other members of the party had the scotch fillet which was perfect and good value at $44.
2 others had the rib eye, both where slightly overcooked, though we know meat on the bone can be tricky. Was a lovely piece of meat but believe it was a bit overpriced at $90 and would order the lamb or scotch fillet next time.
All sides and desserts were great too.
House Shiraz was also a winner.
Overall my party of 9 enjoyed the experience. We had three international visitors and they were keen to experience a more rural dining venue.
My tips are as follows.
1. Offer salt and pepper when setting up the table. We understand that it may be an insult to the chef, but we wanted it at our table, had to ask, and it took a while to come.
2. We ordered red wine. It didn’t arrive and we had to ask the wait staff for it. She apologised, thank you, but it shouldn’t happen.
3. The birthday cake was delicious. But please explain to the table that you intend to remove the cake and cut it / plate it. We weren’t informed and hence had to go to the counter to ask for plates. It was then the wait staff said they would do it. Just be a little more pre- emptive.
4. Overall we enjoyed the experience and this feedback is just to give your team a little bit of an edge. One of the guests is an experienced Emirates staff trainer and understand the importance of customer service. It doesn’t hurt either if someone asks us if our food is OK.
Really was very noisy (the room echoes), clearing table from crumbs etc was missing throughout - got a bit messy. Food was really good but service was 'patchy'.
Enjoyed a great meal, serves were very generous and delicious. Beautifully presented using fresh produce. You do need to allow plenty of time to enjoy the dining experience as it is a while between courses. We loved this aspect but it would not suit all diners. The wines were delicious and the service was outstanding, friendly staff who engaged well without being intrusive. We are looking forward to our next visit... .
Lovely meal in a stunning venue with a beautiful view of the valley. Sunday lunch special was very good value. Very accommodating of dietary restrictions. Great wine list, we enjoyed the local wine.
I had delicious pumpkin tortellini with sage then pork - scrumptious.
Outstanding, one of the best meals we’ve ever had. We will be back for the friendly prompt service, lovely view and surrounds, happy atmosphere but mostly for the incredible delicious food and great wine list. And many things to do close by - we went to the Korumburra pottery and there are terrific walks - all so close to Melbourne so getting back home is easy.
The view was amazing and the food was beautiful. A little bit loud. Unfortunately our staff member was rather rude and frazzled - I think he was either overworked or tired because it seemed everything was an effort. Our meals didn’t come out all together (so some were finishing when others were starting meals) which was a shame because when it did all arrive it was fantastic.
Our experience at Hoggets Kitchen was definitely a positive one. The wait staff were excellent. Friendly & efficient. The menu was sufficient to cater to most tastes and certainly ours. The Charcuterie was excellent as was the Eye Fillet that we ordered for our mains. The only small critique would be the lack of a sweet wine, i.e. a moscato, on the wine list. Otherwise we all had a great afternoon at Hoggets Kitchen and would have no hesitation in returning again or recommending Hoggets Kitchen to our friends & family.
Service was delightful, food was amazing, such beautiful flavours with generous serving portions. Highly recommended.
Waitress lovely & first 2 courses great. Desert really disappointing & one of the 3 items listed for desert (which everyone wanted) was already sold out except for 1 serve. 7.00 booking for 8, including 2 children. No table service for 1st hour & had to go to the counter to ask if we could order drinks. Waitress came a little while later & took drink orders & food orders. 1st course would have been served around 90 mins after arriving. Mains arrived quite some time later & deserts arrived at 9.50pm. Unfair to the children with us, who were exhausted by the time the final course was served & everyone at the table still hungry & wanting to go. There was no charge for the first round of drinks, which was a lovely gesture, but 3 hours to have a meal was not impressive.
Excellent meals which were well prepared and presented. Service was inconsistent - no glasses on table for one diner at the beginning of the meal, wine was never refilled and had to do it ourselves, staff was pleasant and humorous. Ambience has potential but was ruined by children running around for most of the meal.
A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. A group of three we elected to let Chef Trevor cook for us. Wave after wave of beautiful courses were put in front of us, each unique and delicious. William Downie Gippsland Pinot was a perfect accompaniment. All this combined with sensational service, will definitely be back!
From the moment we called the restaurant to let them know we were running late and may not arrive until just as they were closing and we were told not to worry, they would be there for us, we knew that our experience at Hogget Kitchen would be a very good one. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly, even enthusiastically. We were told not to rush but just to enjoy ourselves. Looking at the wine list, we noted several years of a favorite wine (Wm Downie Pinot Noir). When we asked which year would be “the best” we were told that the chef/owner would call the vintner and ask him which he would recommend. And he did! Then we ordered our meals. When the food arrived everything was both beautifully presented and delicious. Then as we were eating our delicious desserts, the chef/owner Trevor Perkins joined us for about 15 minutes to chat, telling us all about the restaurant, the wine, the food sourcing and preparation, and his own philosophy and intentions as he and his colleagues created the restaurant. In sum, everything about the restaurant was superb, from the attentive, friendly and and professional service to the quality of the food and wine and the chef’s willingness to spend time chating with us. This dining experience is most definitely “worth a journey.”
Always love going. A bit pricey, but worth it for the amazing food.
Amazing service, food and atmosphere. Not the cheapest but for the quality and service it was excellent value for money.
