Ron of Japan Steakhouse - Chicago
Lassen Sie liefern
The beef fried rice was disgusting. Everything else was decent that we ate. Server seemed in a hurry, even though we were there for an early dinner and 1 of 3 tables in the whole place. Our chef was fun and pleasant.
In general overpriced for lousy service and average food.
They have a nice atmosphere, the food is so fresh, and they give a generous portion.
Best place on earth minus the service and smell.
Great dining experience !
Food was great the service was amazing
I remember when I went to Ron Of Japan my whole life the chef always put on a show! He would flip a shrimp in a pocket or mouth. He would make a fire in an onion and definitely would make a BIG deal for someone’s birthday. We got nothing. No show. No excitement. We told them it was our daughters birthday on open table and in person and they still did nothing until I got up after dessert and asked if they were coming out to sing happy birthday. Very disappointed because it always was a favorite special place of mine and it’s super expensive but my kids didn’t get the whole experience and greatness of the place so we prob won’t go back. Very sad.
Overall it's a 10 star restaurant but my fault that I did not know about it it was NBA weekend so I should have expected long line long way but overall Tin Star will I come back most definitely
It was great
Great food !
Great location !
Hot Sake highly recommended !
Great experience and great food!
My husband and I went on Valentine's Day and after reviewing their "Valentine Day" menu, I requested their regular menu. I was told that it was not available for the day. The selection, in my opinion was very limited. My husband ordered the California roll and it was sub par. It had no flavor and the rice was over or under cooked. We then chose I entree and my husband got scallops and beef fried rice. I chose filet mignon and shrimp with beef fried rice. Again the rice was crunchy and the beef was ground beef and only seasoned with salt and pepper. No special seasonings. The meat was also just seasoned with salt and pepper. The vegetables that comes with the meal were ok but, they only gave you about a half of cup (if that) of it. Normally when you go to a Hibachi restaurant there is always a surplus of food. Not here. The other two couples at our table were just as disappointed as we were. I made a joke and told my husband that I was still hungry and we needed to get something else to eat afterwards. His scallops were cooked well but lacked flavor (just salt and pepper). Our bill was $160.00 no alcohol just 1 diet coke and a water. The gratuity for a party of 2 was $23. Needless to say, I will NOT return or refer a friend to this establishment. They ought to be ashamed of raising the prices and reducing the portion size.
Ron of Japan never disappoints. Came here on a Friday night and it was a perfect way to celebrate. Both my friend and I did Crown Combo's (Shrimp & Chicken and Sirloin). TIP: Egg sauce on EVERYTHING. I mean rice, veggies, protein - sky's the limit. Always a fun time and maintains quality of service year after year.
It was freezing at our table. The server didn’t ask why all the people at the table still had coats on. I ate my dinner with a coat on and still was shivering like I was eating outside in the cold. The breeze from the front doors was rediculous others that were dining actually got moved to other tables.
Valentines Day and Anniversary
Only one reason to dine at this type of resto...the show for kids. All the cheesy stuff like throwing food and tossing eggs and cracking jokes. We know the food is just an afterthought. So we were very disappointed that there was NO entertainment of any kind! Defeated the whole purpose. And the food was subpar, even anticipating subpar food.
It was a wonderful dining experience with the family as our 23 year old daughter was leaving the next day for 10 months. Thank you for making it so enjoyable.
Great experience just a little crowded that day.
The place is nice but the food was ok....needed a lot more flavor. I just felt like everything would've been better with more sauce, or spices or something extra. It was all just very bland.
We got a good deal because of Chicago Restaurant Week - otherwise I wouldn't recommend this place! The ventilation was poor and the smoke was blowing in our face the whole time. They tried to adjust the vent lower but nothing would change. I smelled like a hibachi grill the rest of the night and now my jacket smells like it as well!
Went for Chicago Restaurant Week and enjoyed the full menu experience
Great choice, Vivian and Sam hands the greatest
Food was good. Not sure it's worth a trip downtown since it is comparable to similar suburban venues. Likely the best for this type of cuisine in downtown Chicago.
I did not like this place. Food was not good. Eventhough I had reservations , I still had to wait at the bar. the food was very bland.
Great food, love the ambiance. It was a wonderful night out!
One of our guests mentioned the egg yolk on the shrimp. They weren’t kidding 👌🏼
We always love coming to Ron of Japan. Whatever you ordered, make sure you get the egg sauce on it.
This is my favorite restaurant. Love the shrimp, vegetables and salad. A little pricey but great for a special occasion.
Segundo is the best! The food is always great. They don’t really go for entertainment, so if you’re looking for flaming volcanoes and rice being flipped at you, this isn’t the place for you. We have been coming for decades and the food has never wavered in quality.
We reserved a table and showed up 15 minutes early. They had a table, but refused to seat us until our reservation time. Made our four kids sit at the bar. Place was dark, greasy, and dirty. Food was okay, but not worth the price. We ordered sushi and 10 minutes later they told us the sushi chef left early. They did give us something that was already made, but not what we hoped for. The ice cream for desert was poor. My vanilla had ice crystals in it. And my kids wanted chocolate, but they came out and told us that they were out of chocolate. We were packed around a small table. I thought it would be fun for the kids, but not nearly the cooking experience of other Japanese steak houses I’ve been to. It was more like just watching a cook in the kitchen.
New Year’s Eve
This was a good place for dinner. The prices are a bit higher than other comparable hibachi places.
Everything was perfect as usual! We have been coming here for more than 46 years and we always love the food and service! RON Shimisowa has this experience down to a science. We like the downtown venue the best, although the NORTHBROOK location has a very unique and original design.
If you are looking for the best in Teppan style Japanese cuisine, RON Of JAPAN is the pinnacle of perfection!
Best lobster and steak. Our cook made the dinner even better.
ROJ on Xmas Eve is a standard that can not be beat! Always fun and delicious.
The chicken was overcooked, the mai tai was too sweet with no alcohol content, our chef was not friendly, the fried rice was very bland.
A fun and entertaining restaurant. Food was great and plenty of it!
Long wait for food but overall good experience
We love Ron of Japans!!!
