Good food but service was mediocre. Place was empty and server basically ignored us after we finished our food. We were a table of 6 girls catching up and would likely have had another couple mimosas if the server bothered to come back. Kind of pricy for brunch
The food was really delicious but the service was a tad slow. We had to get the servers attention more than a few times. My friends had to ask for beverages and water before the server even had a chance of offering it first, so they had to wait to grab her attention. She was nice though. Other than that, I would recommend this place because the food is so flavorful with creole style taste. Also, we had a cake and they provided a candle for a birthday and it was really yummy - carrot cake. Thanks a bunch!
My hubby and I have been to Roux many times. It's very trendy, and the food is to die for. This last time the service was a bit lackluster, but food was amazing as always! Great date night
We were very disappointed in the quality of the food served. The daily special omelette was oddly formed and lacking in flavour. It was served with salad greens that included a significant number of pieces that were not just wilted, but blackened and rotting. The brisket hash was very salty. I ate it out of hunger and courtesy to the group I was with, but felt unwell for the rest of the day.
The other diners enjoyed their chicken and waffles and the pulled pork benny went un-finished. I didn't get to ask the person who ordered it why. I did notice that they also left a lot of salad on their plate and ate only one of the eggs.
The ambiance may be referred to as energetic, but our group found it unpleasantly noisy and making conversation almost impossible.
We have been to Roux many times. Our experience on the weekend was the worst. We are unlikely to return.
Great menu and food was good. Only had one server and we struggled to get water/coffee refills or anything else. Not good overall experience.
Kinda meh! Was surprised to find how sticky the table was, really grossed us out.
The food was excellent, but they were really slow especially considering we were the only ones there. If you’re not ready for service that’s cool but let us know so we can make an informed decision, please.
Chicken and waffles were awesome!
Good things come to those who wait! Most of the complaints I've read about Roux online have been related to service, and while I have no idea how anyone could find their servers rude - they're quite friendly - it takes a while to get your food. That's a good thing, though, because that means they've taken the time and care needed to make exceptional meals! Go in prepared to have a drink and chat, be patient, and when the food comes, I promise you'll be happy you waited.
Great food and lots of selection for brunch. Service was prompt and professional. Would definitely come back.
Portions were very small and the price was too high for what we got. The service was good.
This was my fourth visit to Roux and as with every visit it was wonderful. Bar and wait staff are great food is amazing. Cant wait for visit #5
Food is always great but the main issue was how long it took to get the food, and one of the dishes we ordered wasn’t made so we had to wait even longer.
Opentable has asked for a “Roux”view of our time at this restaurant. So, here it goes.
As this was our third visit, my wife and I had previously come for a dinner and a brunch, this time we invited a friend to join us.
First, the restaurant is great for a relaxed, New Orleans inspired, laidback meal with friends. So, we came again for brunch.
To keep with the Louisiana vibe, I ordered the chicken and waffles, my wife had the brisket hash and our friend chose the salmon popover. For me, the chicken was a-maz-ing! I mean, seriously great. Unfortunately, the waffles were a bit dry and crumbly. My wife felt her meal was not what she hoped. She found the brisket to be less than generous and apparently it lacked a starch. She had to order toast. She also found the pastry basket had items that weren’t fully thawed, never mind freshly baked. Our friend, on the other hand, really enjoyed her meal.
Having said all that, we’d go back. We loved our server, she was hilarious and attentive. The atmosphere is comfy and friendly and for the most part the food was good. And in our two previous visits we enjoyed ourselves immensely.
Our hope is that this was just a blip.
We bailed, the place was a dump! After our nice hostess seated us, a server came along and asked her why she seated a “walk-in”. She told her that we had a reservation. This banter ensued while she had people’s food in her hands and in front of us. The place looked dirty. We got up and left.
The food was delicious and staff very accommodating of my gluten free, dairy free diet! I’m definitley going back with my husband!
Being from the States and particularly the South, I had to try this place. I may have set my expectations a bit too high, but that could be my “southerness“ speaking and bias. I ordered the jambalaya and it was just OK to me. I’ve had better. It had a kick in spices, but not necessarily the right flavors (seasonings) - it was missing something. However, my friend and I do appreciate the cook’s hospitality and making us feel welcomed with complimentary gumbos and desserts for our birthdays. There was only one server and it seemed he was spread a bit thin - serving our party along with 4-5 tables alone. Probably wouldn’t go back, but I would recommend for the ambiance.
The meal was great. The service was excellent, ready to assist but not too intrusive.
The restaurant’s ambiance was nice and the service was awesome however the food wasn’t great. Roux offers a slightly elevated version of soul food but everything we ordered was under seasoned and lacked flavour.
A nice small restaurant in the Junction with interesting cocktails and good food. We waited quite a long time for our mains to arrive, but the drinks and appys were fairly quick. The menu is a nice change from the ordinary.
Overall our dinner was very good. The oysters were excellent, very fresh! We tried the muscles also, very good. Three different enters between four of us( two had the Flatiron steak) Shrimp and Grits, awesome! Catfish and pork belly, amazing flavour. Loved the smokiness of the pork belly. I would definitely recommend it. Flatiron steak was very good withe the greens, though the frits were way too salty. Judging by the number of people around us that ordered the Chicken with waffle, I think it is a local favourite. I would love to go back and try it. Definitely some where I would return to. Thank you!
We have eaten here several times and always enjoyed a wonderful experience. Great food!
So glad we tried Roux! nice to change it up and try the East side of Keele along Dundas West.
Warm and cozy vibe.
Good drink options, a variety of craft is always appreciated. Decent whiskey too.
Food is 6 out of 5. It really is good. Menu has three more items I want to try, so I will be back.
Server/s were friendly and patient with good knowledge of drinks.
See you again!
Excellent place for a nice Sunday brunch!
Great service and cozy atmosphere! Food was good. The Southern breakfast and chicken waffle were good however I found the fried catfish a bit too brown. Coffee was good!
We made a reservation for 4 during Saturday Brunch. First time at Roux. We ordered the chicken and waffles, cat fish breakfast, baked beans and Corn flakes French toast. The portions and prices were fair. The flavours and presentation was excellent , thank you to the chef! The service was pleasant and servers were attentive. Always asked if we needed anything else. Overall great experience!
We had a great meal, everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Staff were friendly and efficient. Nice casual ambiance. Definitely will return.
Made a reservation for 9pm for Valentines dinner. We sat at the bar until 9:40 before we were finally seated. The food was good when it came but took a very long time, service wasn’t great or accommodating. Drinks were comp’d to make up for some of the bad experience at least. May have been an off night for the staff but we were not impressed.
It would get 5 stars but the cocktails are only average at best.
Service took a long time , a dozen of oysters for app took close to an hour to be served and had to be served 2 different trips (separate plates).
I got the smoked platter and the meat tastes like they’ve reheated from frozen meat. The ribs was hard and tough - not at all what ribs should be. Got a side dish of collard greens and it tastes like frozen bag reheated.
Overall think this place is overrated and not worth the price.
I thought it was a good spot for weekend brunch southern style. My french toast was good, although my friend got some hotdog special and it was incredible! Our service was incredible too!
My sister and I went there to celebrate my birthday. We had a reservation for 8:30, as I was unable to book anything earlier than that through the online reservation site, although when we arrived, there were already some empty tables, so I wasn’t sure why we couldn’t have booked a table for a little earlier. However, the service was excellent, as was the food. The portions were just the right size for me.. generous, but not so much that I couldn’t finish it. I had catfish with collard greens, potato rosti and slaw, and it was absolutely delicious. My sister had the yardbird, which was seasoned fried chicken, and a potato mash. She said that was also excellent. My main complaint was that, unbeknownst to us, the kitchen closed at 9:30, so when we asked for the dessert menu and coffee, we were told the kitchen was closed, and we couldn’t have anything else to follow. The server was very apologetic, however, I feel we should have been told that in advance, so we could have ordered earlier. It would have been nice to have been able to order a dessert for my birthday. Aside from that, though, I would recommend Roux as a lovely, cozy neighbourhood place to go for a delicious Cajun/Creole meal.
Food was mediocre - I had the catfish with collard greens and potato rosti. I just didn't find it that tasty. I did enjoy the mac and cheese balls, cornbread and beignets, which we all split. Service was good and price was average. Just not enough for me to return.
Great place. Good value for money. Impeccable service! Would definitely come back.
Food and service was magnificent.
Very friendly service and delicious Creole main dishes. At my table of 6 we had catfish, both with pork belly and roasted, and both were excellent. Others had the mackerel special, again very good, and the lamb shank special -- very tasty. Fun cocktails, especially the spicy southern Caesar, served with a shrimp fritter and a sausage as edible garnish! On the down side, the trio southern sampler appetizer was merely average, and the dessert selection was limited to carrot cake and a very small creme brulee. Only truly disappointing thing was the noise level -- on a Friday evening, it was too loud for 6 people to have a good conversation. Restaurant is long and narrow and the tables are very close to the open kitchen and bar, where conversation reached yelling level. All dishes made from scratch so our meals took a little longer to reach us but worth the wait. On a final note, our waiter Eduardo was attentive, helpful in explaining the dishes and fun. Definitely recommended but we'd go back on a weeknight when the noise level might be lower.
We had a family dinner on Sunday evening. The atmosphere was lovely, food-tasty, service- very good. I will definitely visit this restaurant again.
Really good food, service and atmosphere. We went here on our first date night since baby arrived and were really happy with our choice!
Great neighborhood feel, lively but not loud, open kitchen, savoury southern specialties. Always get a good meal here. House smoked pork belly and catfish was great. Mussels & frites, with a light cream sauce, are my favorite app. Warm bagne for desert.
Food was very tasty and creative. Good service and great atmosphere. Southern flavours and menu.
