Roy's - San Francisco
Roy’s never disappoints, excellent food & service!
Our family goes to Roy's for most of our special occasions, i.e., biethdays, anniversaries etc. The misoyaki butterfish is most favored but the filet lobster combo is a close second. The kiddie menu is the best we've seen anywhere. Oh, and the chocolate lava cake is the best desrert ever. Great service as well. Best dinning experience imaginable.
great food, as always
Roy's is very expensive, and the food just didn't match the prices overall. The pork rib and tempura shrimp appetizers were very good, the scallop and coconut rice entree was as well, but the butterfish wasn't good, it was a little fishy and overcooked, the book choy was over steamed and the rice was flavorless. The chocolate souffle dessert was delicious. The food should be consistently great for the value. The service was excellent.
Excellent service and ambiance. Food was delicious but portions could have been slightly larger.
No valet parking and garage parking is limited.
I didn’t realize this but this is the second (and more popular) Roy’s restaurant, the first one being in Hawaii. The food is fusion French and Hawaiian/Japanese. They had an extensive drink list (lots of Hawaiian inspired drinks). The food was expensive but very very tasty. They serve edamame instead of bread. My entree (scallops) were buttery soft and delicious. I wish I had room for dessert, they looked great, but I’ll have to come back another time. It was an overall great experience.
Had another stupendous dinner at Roy’s! Service is A1, food is divine! Had the lobster potstickers, glazed shrimp, and sea bass special. All the food was great but the sea bass was melt-in-your-mouth delicious! Looking forward to our next visit!
The butterfish was a bit to fishy. Scallops and chocolate soufflé were delicious.
I don't know what happened to this place. It's been about a year since I was there last and things changed and not for the better. The Hawaiian martini used to be garnished with pineapple, now it comes with the pineapple they use to make the infused vodka. It is inedible, and should not be given to anyone. Other changes in the menu also were not good. I ordered lobster potstickers. I had them many times before and I was looking forward to them until they showed up. Deep-fried. I tried one and it was like a oily sponge. I gave up on the kitchen at that point and left. Kudos to them for taking them off my bill though. I only hope whatever has been happening here can be undone and it will return to its former self.
Excellent fish and great desserts.
Great service and great food. Server was engaging, friendly, and prompt. Had a nice and productive lunch with my colleague.
Service was great and the snacks and drinks from the bar aloha menu were good. Our meal was very underwhelming and I expected more after paying $200 for a nice dinner on our anniversary. Miles away from the quality at the ironical Roy’s in honolulu
Have been to Roy’s in Hawaii a number of times and have always enjoyed it. SF Roy’s was just as good. Service was excellent and food was quite good
Not crowded yet service was very slow
Great service and the food was very good.
We arrived 1 1/2 hours early, and they seated us promptly. Food was great and services was very attentive. We'll definitely go back again in the future.
Great experience but the SF add-on taxes are misguided and should be part of the stated costs... Service was outstanding...
Overpriced ok food. Food was very rich for fish and seafood. I tasted sauce more than the sea. For 2 persons, 3 drinks (wine and beer), 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, 1 side and 2 desserts came to $250 with tax and tips. What's worse it didnt even taste that good.
“Roy’s” is a favorite! The menu is a wonderful experience in great flavors.
I recommend it as a “must” do on everyone’s dining list.
We had a very nice dinner. Had the Korean prix fix dinner ( Appetizer, main & dessert & you still have choices for each category)
The short ribs were excellent. We also had the fish 4 ways. The miso butterfish was the best. Nice portions with different accompaniments for each fish. Their cocktails are different with an asian influence.
Service was efficient but we were never asked how our food was nor was I offered coffee.
We would still return. PS they have a great happy hour everyday
One year retirement anniversary and a trip to SF for the weekend. Roy’s had been our favorite restaurant in the Bay Area for many years. Now that we moved out of state whenever we visit SF we look forward to Roy’s SF. The best service by the entire staff, excellent menu and the delicious and well presented meal. They haven’t changed and still the best.
It was a wonderful evening. There were six of us and we were treated very well, very quickly and in a very friendly and professional manner..but we never felt rushed. No complaints...nothing but a great memory.
Locale carino anche se un po’ rumoroso e con TV che trasmettevano la partita. Carne New York Steak buona. Da fuori sembrava più esclusivo grazie ai vetri scuri. Prezzi medio alti ma a San Francisco rimane nella media.
We went for our anniversary dinner. The food and drink are good and very expensive. I did not enjoy a nice restaurant having TVs on like a sports bar. The waitress was polite but nothing that made us feel overly welcome. We paid $170 for the two of us for food and drink.
Roy's is a favorite of my wife and I. However, we had a bad experience when ordering our meal which is interesting due to the fact we had dinner early, 5pm and maybe 4 other tables occupied so it wasn't busy at all. I ordered my NY strip medium, I got it well done with a hard fried egg on top. So much for egg gravy... Sent it back, waited 15min while my wife ate alone so her meal wouldn't get cold waiting for me. NY strip came back cooked to perfection. Manager came by our table to apologize and comp our entree's which was much appreciated! Then server tool our dessert order wrong. My wife ordered pineapple upside-down cake, she got the choc suffle. We asked to box the reorder togo. While the staff didn't have their A-game that evening we will still go back again. We still left them a decent tip!!
Great flavors but overpriced for the portion size. First class service from the staff.
The server did not introduce himself but he did with another table. He also didn’t smile and seemed indifferent to our dining experience. The beef dumpling was very tough. The butter fish was tasty but may not have been super fresh. The short ribs were great but the sides seem weird. The desserts were not very good specifically the berry cobbler and cheesecake. Both had no taste.
Only one bathroom
And not clean
Excellent dinner. service and food were worth the price
Came here for happy hour. The food and drink prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was nice. Not very crowded so my friends and I could hear each other speak. Service was good as well.
Our server, Jose, was excellent and really made our anniversary dinner special. We came in on the Travelzoo Voucher ($79 for dinner valued at $128)... good deal, BUT ended up paying $100+ more with cocktails, extra appetizer and tip!
The food was FABULOUS! We had Maui Wowie salad with shrimp & avacado (delish!), lobster potstickers (yum!), 4 Fish Sampler (all 4 VERY good). The only complaint was macadamia nut encrusted Mahi Mahi was served on top of mashed potatoes....and the potatoes were luke warm, at best.
The desserts we ordered - the pineapple upside down cake AND the molten lava cake - were both Outstanding!! The complimentary dessert for our anniversary was also a nice touch!
We had a knowledgeable server who was helpful with dietary restrictions. He had a nice personality and pleasant demeanor. The appetizers were gorgeous to look at and delicious to eat. Our entrees were perfect sized, although we couldn't finish the entire meals. We saved room for dessert! The bread pudding was very fresh and flavorful. I enjoy eating at Roy's and always bring first time work visitors here to dine. This place gets a high rating to encompass my many dining visits and for future!
Always love Roy's Misoyaki Butterfish and the Lobster and Filet. Always a great place to celebrate occasions, ie our 54th wedding anniversary this time!
Roy's is an upscale restaurant in downtown San Francisco area. I hosted a welcome lunch for a new hire in my company at this restaurant. The service was excellent - we were seated very quickly, our orders were taken within a few mins of sitting down and the food was delivered to our table within 15 mins. I would recommend the hot chocolate souffle for desert. The waiter was very courteous and answered any questions we had regarding the menu. The ambience in this place is very good - light (but not loud) music, ample space between tables, good furniture and pleasant decor.
I would recommend Roy's to anyone wanting a good dining experience in downtown SF.
The fish sampler was amazing.
I took my daughter and her three boys for my 12 year old grandson's birthday on thursday night. I had told them that it was his birthday, and the waiter was so nice to him!! The food was amazing, as always, and even the youngest grandson (age 8) loved his "Kids meal" which was quite ample and delicious with an appetizer, main dish, and dessert. We ordered two adult desserts, and the waiter brought the birthday boy a dessert with a candle and "happy birthday" written on the plate. Everyone was delighted with their food and the service!
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. The staff was great and did some things to make the occasion feel special. They have us this nice display on the table and a complimentary dessert in addition to the dessert we already ordered. We had a wonderful time. Definitely planning on going again.
We had a most pleasant evening, with great food, attentive service and a welcoming ambiance. The edamame was special. Our second visit in a week.
Great food and great service!
Like many reviews say, pretty MEDIOCRE overall, sweet older male server not aware of what FRESH FISH means, he had to go ask chef if the many fishes served were 100% fresh or previously frozen from catch to table. He still wasn’t sure after he spoke to the guy, he says the “fish is normally fresh, but we don’t get fresh fish delivered on Sundays. We are on Sunday.
Fish was kinda bland & a tad FISHY tasting, not good signs.
The only good to great & memorable part was the yummy dessert...yes, the 2 specialties...Hawaiian upside down pineapple wedding cake & chocolate lava cake with great cold vanilla bean adjacent.
$200. for 2 with no booze, a rip off !!!!
The place 95% empty by time left at 7:30pm. Yes, a Sunday night. Few naive tourist here I guess.
In SF x 25 years, my first visit as nearby at YBPA Theatre for ODC Dance show. Never again. I checked it off my to-do list.
