Sanderlings - Seascape Resort
My friend came at 11:43 and I walked in at 11:45. She told them I was coming and that my name was on the reservation. They told her they would let me know she had been seated. After the 2 restaurant workers walked past me numerous times, I never thought about them, just wondered why my friend was so late. At noon I started to text her but saw her text that she had been seated for 15 minutes. This was not a good start. We eat here a lot and that was not good.
We had dined here a few years ago with friends and were pleased with food, ambience and service. Tried it again last Tuesday with my brother and sister-in-law. Hoped to impress them. Didn't happen. Place was almost deserted. No linen on the table. Food was disappointing. We each ordered different entrees and none of them overwhelmed. We'll dine elsewhere , for sure, next time we have out-of-town guests.
I called in Wednesday to make reservations for 14 on a Friday for my birthday. I was told the manager would need to call me to do that. I left my name and number. No one ever called me back. So service was poor. But survey made me mark other areas to continue.
All worked out we went somewhere else had great food and service
Order took about an hour. We were patient but disappointed and very hungry. Food was good. Server felt awful. Said something was going on in the kitchen. Other patrons were frustrated as well. It was a 5:30 reso.
My wife and both daughters celebrated my wife's Bday on the 30th and then New Year's Eve at your resort and enjoyed everything. The food at Sanderlings was excellent, staff and service friendly, just a perfect experience.
We've eaten at Sanderlings a few times as we live nearby, but this time we were seated in an upstairs area that wasn't nearly as festive as downstairs (it was New Years Eve). My fish was overcooked, very dry and the Asian style sauce that was on it was burnt. I didn't say anything because we were with friends chatting away and having a good time with them, and I didn't want to put a blanket in the evening for them by sending my plate back, especially since we had long waits in-between wine, dinner, water, the check. Due to the fact that we were seated in an area with few other diners (only two other couples were there in a space that would hold many more) we were ignored for long stretches. The waiter apologized for the wait, but we will not be back.
We may visit there for a patio refreshment but not a dinner in the dining room. Ambience is lacking except for a view out of the windows to the sea, otherwise the seating and lighting resembled a cafeteria, the walls a dull brown. There was nothing inviting, not even a candle on the table and this was New Years Eve! The fish, which should have been flakey was rubbery. The sides were uninteresting. The service was fair but we were offered another tables dinners as we were waiting for our check and had to ask repeatedly for a couple of items. Overall we were hugely disappointed.
Went to the Christmas buffet. Over priced, mediocre food, poorly organized. Worst buffet ever. Nice bar though.
Actually, I generally enjoy dining here. I don't think the Christmas buffet was the best value, it felt like the atmosphere of a sweet tomatoes....it really threw me off but It was nicely decorated and the staff were kind. I probably won't dine here again on a holiday but otherwise I like dining here.
I was disappointed in the Christmas buffet this year at Sanderlings. We attended the buffet several years ago and it was phenomenal but this year it was nothing like what we had experienced. The oysters Rockefeller were dry and smelled. I didn’t see any gravy for the turkey. The stuffing was very good, however. Little things like the sliced sourdough bread was not refilled, only crackers remained on the dish where the sliced bread had been. I guess they assume everyone only eats rolls.
I remember in the past when there was a huge selection of seafood. It was upstairs and the display was amazing. This one was nothing like that. For $75/person we expected better.
Went here for Christmas brunch with my husband. The food was good, but the setting was the star of the meal.
Setting is a large, open room, but quiet and with peaceful music. My warm breakfast was a little cool, and my wife enjoyed her's. The setting overlooking the Monterey Bay is wonderful.
All in all, a positive experience. Our seating was at 6:45 and we had a perfect table. The elegance factor for a Christmas Eve night was a bit lacking. There was no candle on the table and the area around us was quite dirty and disheveled. Service was excellent.
Friends Christmas celebration
Ordinary. Only thing to recommend is the view. Disappointed.
Staff and Service was great, food not so much. Appetizers were great, had Asian Duck Crepe and Calamari. Shared a Ceasar Salad, no flavor (they did remove from the bill), their dressing? I don’t know but a store bought bottled dressing would have been better. Ordered Prime Rib Eye at $42.00, I have no problem with cost, tough, and tasteless.
Again floor Staff was wonderful, manager was wonderful, really tried to make up for the lacking of the kitchen staff.
I hope this is a one off, because it’s really a shame when everyone up front does their job and the kitchen falls on its face.
Great wait staff and manager! Made the special occasion extra special.
Birthday and anniversary dinner
We were there on the evening before Thanksgiving, and very few people were in the restaurant. The roasted chicken with vegetables was excellent and perfect for a cold evening. My husband enjoyed his mushroom lasagna, which I believe was a special. The Zinfandel was delicious, and the service was excellent.
I enjoy Sanderlings, not only for the magnificent view, but for the food and ambiance as well. The noise level inside is very low, so you can enjoy leisurely conversations over a delicious meal. The new menu has a wide variety of dishes and I visit more often since the menu has changed. A perfect place to celebrate birthdays or other events. The service is excellent and when I am waited on by Pamela or Dustin I know the meal will be exceptional.
" Disappointed " would summarize our experience. The service was slow. When our food reached the table the eggs and potatoes were cold and the pancakes like cardboard. Coffee refills only came after requests. We ate outdoors and that was outstanding but otherwise, our experience was not good.
We sat outside with a beautiful view. Prompt service and were checked on regularly. The food was delicious and all staff really friendly
Special guests in town - they requested lunch near the ocean; no better place!
My banana foster and mascarpone French toast cane with no mascarpone, and only 2 slices of banana. By the time they brought the missing items out my French toast was cold. The waiter was kind though.
Overall we really enjoyed our experience at Sanderlings. The location was great and was the service with the exception of a few small missteps by a young energetic service staff was fantastic. We were greeted warmly and seated quickly. We were there later in the evening but our seating would have been ideal for a sunset dinner. The food was excellent with high quality ingredients and imaginative preparations. The cheese plate did not hold up to the expectations set by the brilliant salad, starter, and main course.
We sat outside with a beautiful view & enjoyed watching a wedding being set up. I loved my salad but my friend wasn’t super happy with her fish & chips. My other friend really liked her eggs Benedict. I’ll go back again because it is so gorgeous there by the ocean
My boyfriend and I had an amazing time. Great food and service!
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Sanderlings. The pork belly and onion soup appetizers were among the tastiest we have ever had. I had the Wagyu Beef and it was incredible.
My wife had the Sable fish bouillabaisse and it was delicious in a lobster broth. Finally, our desert of Tiramisu and carrot cake were a perfect finish to a pefrect meal.
We visited during the Santa Cruz Restaurant Week and were very glad we finally had a chance to come here for dinner. We waited too long and will be back again soon!
The host/manager was very friendly and made sure our visit was special, we look forward to our next visit!
The view from the outdoor seating area is spectacular!
Food was not very good.
Fish in fish + chips was old.
Salmon in salmon BLT was clearly visibly raw. The sandwich was served sliced open so I don't know how the chef and server both didn't notice how uncooked it was. Once cooked it was actually pretty good. Other meals at the table were average.
Manager came by and offered to fill up our drinks, took cups and never came back.
The view makes up for any lack in the kitchen. There was a wedding going on which was fun to watch.
I would recommend Sanderlings for drinks at sunset as the view is incredible.
There were three of us all celebrating October birthdays. We had a very pleasant and delicious lunch, the venue was beautiful, the day was sunny and warm. Great location.
The staff was very attentive and the comfort food was really good! We were seated at a window table and got to enjoy a beautiful sunset. The Santa Cruz Restaurant Week dinner specials were also a great value too. I’ll be coming back because the service was awesome. I wish all other Santa Cruz area restaurants could be on par with Sanderlings when it comes to great service.
The food was fantastic! However, the service on the other hand was severely lacking our waitress didn’t check on us one time during our meal, we waited over 20 minutes to even place our order I didn’t feel that the restaurant was that busy to have such poor service! I must say though they had an exceptionally good hostess who kept coming over and refilling our waters and checking on us!
Sat outside on this beautiful October evening. Ambiance was AMAzing! Great service and great food! Thank you Sanderlings!
Beautiful views but sorry to say we were disappointed in the food and service. Took a long time to serve drinks and appetizers then the food was very underwhelming. I have been here before for lunch with much better results so I know they are capable of better. Hopefully, it was just an off night.
Lets start positive. Outdoor view was amazing over looking the ocean. The food was ok. I asked about the tuna tartar as the picture looked great on the web. Sadly, one of the waiter said that " i wouldnt recommend it". If you wont recommend it for any reason, why have it on the menu? I ordered the crab cakes instead. Whats dissapointing is that, next to the ocean, we were served crab cakes that had imitation crab meat.
For $25 dollars?! Couldnt really complain much because although its fake meat, the other components on the dish complemented the dish well.
For entree, i ordered steak and frites. Steak was not properly rested and all my fries sucked the juice/ blood of the meat. It was very unappetizing. Prime rib hardly had any seasoning.
Overall, some of the items are overly priced for the quality but some are affordable. The creme brulee was the positive note.. picture of crab cakes and creme brulee attached. Those are the 2 im not shy to recommend
It is a beautiful setting but the food is average.
My reservation was not honored because they had other people waiting for outside seating. They didn't have a reservation. I did. Very disappointed!
Had a wonderful time. Food amazing, service very good, sunset was perfect. (i recommend sunset outside)
Amazing location. Food was fantastic. Waiter was great.. and so was our bartender TJ (even though he's a Jets fan!)
