Amazing food and very professional wait staff.
We were in town to celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary with a special bottle wine from the date of our wedding. Seated at a table for two with a fabulous waiter who shared our love for wine. His service was attentive, efficient and fun. The food was fabulous as always.
Make a reservation. You will not be disappointed!
Bruce was our server and he was exceptional. He timed out meal perfectly so we could get back to the theatre. He suggested I order the porchetta and it was so delicious. Started with the fritto misto and it was crunchy with aromatic fennel; ended with the chocolate hazelnut budino which had a velvety texture. The atmosphere is lively. The hosts were also welcoming and had a great sense of humor. A San Francisco classic!
Outstanding as always ...a must do when in SF.
We had a scrumptious meal at Scala’s Bistro. There were 5 of us and everyone loved their starters and entrées. My starter was the Fall Salad (roasted squash and kale polyps with burrata, etc and is was very delicious). Service was excellent. Easily accommodated my mother’s wheelchair (no steps). Will definitely return.
Mom and I had a great dinner. Highly recommend and our waiter Vincent was great.
Disappointing. Hostess was snarky. Wait staff did best with little to work with.
The food is very delicious. I ordered pasta and coke. Linguini is very good. And server is friendly. So I enjoyed the food. I recommend to everyone.
Great surprise! we thought the menu was a little light on variety but it delivered on the quality .
The staff discovered it was an engagement celebration and went above and beyond! The food was amazing. The dessert was awesome! Great evening in San Francisco! Thank you!
Delicious and reasonably priced, great Italian food. Our server Bruce was wonderful and had a great sense of humor!
The Burratta on grilled bread and beets was fantastic. Margarita Pizza was great as was the ceasar salad. But for the dry chicken, I would have given a higher score.
The place was nice. The food was very good. The waiter was very attentive and entertaining. He checked on us often but never rushed us and tried not to interrupt when we were having a conversation. I enjoyed Scala and would recommend it.
Regular place to eat if your hungry and don’t have so much time . Its like a fast food of pasta .
There were 7 of us and every dish was excellent! The pastas were wonderful. Salads very fresh. Our waiter was terrific, very knowledgeable and attentive, with a great personality. It was really a fun night.
We were here last 9 years ago for a National Meeting and would return again in the future. Only issue was as the noise. Both of us had the salmon and were ecstatic with its presentation and taste. Portions appropriate but excessive.
Everyone who works here is always so kind and welcoming. The service is phenomenal and the food is always delicious. Definitely one of our favorite places to eat when we're in the city!
Scala’s Bistro was a nice meal. Food was tasty! Ambiance and service was good, too.
It’s not really Italian food, it’s lije a cafe. Server said the Italian menu is only during the week. Disappointed to see only 1 pasta dish on their menu
Have been there several time while being in San Francisco. This time we were not pleased with the menu selections and the quality of the food was not up to past standards.
It's amazing how Scala's is so consistent on all counts and for all these years. Besides the food, their employees are exceptional!
Excellent food. The octopus and meatballs were a great way to start. Good wine selection but pretty pricey with the cheapest bottles in the $60’s. Atmosphere was very traditional but rather noisy.
We loved Scalas. It's our go to when visiting the city for shopping or a show.
Very pleasant atmosphere and beautifully set up.Vincent is amazing. very knowledgeable. I live in SF however my nephew and his family live in the San Joaquin Valley. I want them to really know SF thats how I can to invite them to Scalas for dinner. I am the aunt and the tour guide. Vincent is amazing. very knowledgeable on everything we ask. "Who is the General Manager; What is the average income for an Executive Chef in SF; what is the difference between a Maître D’ and a hostess.."and by the way Nathaly is Awesome!
The oysters as well as the appetizer that my nephew and his girlfriend ordered were splendid. My salmon dish was GREAT! My nephew and his girlfriend enjoyed their meals. We were celebrating the kids 11th year Anniversary. They have been a couple since high school. Alina Rose is 19 months. These 3 are some of my favorite people and it was a pleasure to have celebrated their 11th year anniversary at Scala's Bistro.
I will definitely return.
A truly outstanding dining experience. From the friendly check-in to amazing custom cocktails, an excellent meal ending in a delicious dessert. See you next time. Thank you.
Tried the housemade chocolates. they were spectacular and just the right amount for a small desert.
Our server was very good as was the tasty Radiatore with beef and pork bolognese, a dish worth coming back for.
Each year for the past 4 years we come up to San Francisco from Palm Springs and during our stay we make our way to Scala. Not only is the food terrific we look forward to our waiter Bruce who has a phenomenal memory remembering us year after year and besides his memory he is very attentive and knows the menu inside out. He is truly a delight to have as a waiter and an asset to Scala Bistro for making our evening memorable.
Great service, fantastic food and nice ambiance! A real gem!!!! Highly recommend!
Good food, service was somewhat spotty.
Great atmosphere and even better food! Friendly server too! Our go to Italian in SF
Very good experience overall. Pleasant welcoming by the hostess upon arrival. Quick attention by waiter upon seating and then very good attention throughout. Excellent food at reasonable prices. Wines by the glass reasonable as well. Obviously great location (near Union Square).
Definitely worth a visit...and a return visit.
Nice small Italian, good service, good food, noisy, well located, reasonably priced
We had several business meetings (breakfast and lunch) scheduled at Scala's. The menu has a good variety and the food tasted wonderful. The noise level was a little louder at certain times, but this was fine for our meetings. Everyone enjoyed their meals.
Everything was fabulous! Had gnocchi and meatballs with chianti! Yum!
The restaurant and bar were packed and quite"energetic" even for a Friday night. It was hard to hold a conversation. The food is good and consistent, the portions are reasonable. The price is a bit high, but this is Union square SF. The service was very attentive, knowledgable and fun, even with the large crowd.
I've stayed at the Sir Francis Drake many times but have usually run out to some of my other favorite restaurants when in the city. This time, I had a "free glass of bubbly" coupon that was supplied when the bellman took my bags to my room. That plus the fact that I wasn't looking to go too far off in search of dinner made it a good evening to try Scala Bistro which I could book with my Open Table App very easily. I had Burrata to start and the pork chop entree. I guess I'll try more traditional Italian next time but what I did have was wonderful. They also have a Vermintino by the glass which is rather rare even in Italian restaurants. My favorite thing of the night was that the hostess, Natalie, was engaging. She spoke with many of the patrons but did circle back to have a chat with me several times, all which made the dining experience better. Cheers to Natalie.
Very pleasant and enjoyable. We will return.
Was not seated on top floor as reserved.
