Great meal to share with friends! Also it's close to work.
The food was bland and only the calamari was good. Everything else just tasted like spicy mush.
Dinner with my BFFs right after participating in the Women's March in San Francisco. It was a rainy, cold evening - with many people in the streets right after the march. Restaurant was very busy and told the wait would be 45 minutes. We waited as we were very hungry and didn't want to venture in the rain to another restaurant. Have eaten here before and always enjoyed it. Wait was long, service was slow, but they did there best with the patrons and it was understandable. The workers were nice and accommodating considering how busy it was at the restaurant. We were starving and ordered quite a bit of food which was delicious. Enjoyed the evening and had a good time. Will be back for sure!
It was the night of the ladies march. We made a last minute reservation. But it still took over a hour to be seated and almost 15 minutes to order. I get it. It is much more orderly than that usually
The food is tasty. Our atone bowls cane out together but my partners was "warm". Fearing having to wait. After waiting so long hungry He ate it any how.
Food was good but not a great environment
The food was great, service was ok, noise level was a little nigh but we were there during lunch time.
I would recommend it to people who want to have a nice quick & casual lunch.
I ordered a dish that had some sort of meat patty on top. I was only given chopsticks, and the meat was rather solid, so I asked for silverware, but had to ask again 3 or 4 times before they brought a knife and fork.
Stone Korean Kitchen was closed for dinner service even though we had made a dinner reservation the previous day. Someone at least could have contacted us to save us a trip into SF.
Fantastic. Authentic and helpful staff. I'm just sorry that I only had one hour for lunch!
The service was spotty. Server got my order wrong and had to wait while my business guest got his food. What I also did not like was the server dropped my check off mid meal, did not ask if I wanted desert or anything else and did not pre-buss my table. My food got dropped off but zero follow-up.
Also I noticed I got double charged on my debit card. when I called the receptionist was not very helpful nor seemed to care. I physically went back to the restaurant to ask about the double charge. One of the servers explained it was was an error by her and that I was credited back but I have yet to see the credit on my charge card.
overall the place could do a lot better on attentiveness to the guest.
My friend & I shared the lunch meal. We had the dumplings, beef bim bap, & yellow chicken curry. Great food. We had red wine to celebrate our big birthdays. It's just noisy because the restaurant was full but it's okay. You can tell the energy of this restaurant.
The food was amazing
the food was ok but service was lacking even at 6-6:30p. Then more people came and the noise level became unbearable. Children screaming and large groups laughing. We quickly paid our bill and left. Will not visit again.
Great food and portions. Easy to get seated and wonderful workday lunch.
Over priced. Bad service.
I've liked this place for a while, but it seems to be going downhill. The food was good, so I'll give it that. The ambiance is bad. All of the tables have been ruined because of the heat of the stone bowls they use. They were cheap tables to begin with, but literally every single spot where someone gets served has the laminate peeled up and packing tape covering the pressboard table underneath. The service was mediocore, simply because there was only one server that was overworked. My girlfriend used the restroom and said it was "absolutely disgusting".
It's a shame. I've gone there a dozen times over the years, but without replacing their tables (don't get cheap laminate ones this time!) and cleaning up the restaurant, in general, I would not recommend this to someone else or return there myself.
Good food, kind server, but he was overwhelmed with too many tables. I ate here years ago and the ambience has really gone down hill. Maybe okay for quick lunch or happy hour.
Service could be better, but good food considering there's not a lot of Korean restaurants in downtown SF.
It was extremely noisy to a point that I could not have a normal conversation. I wanted to shout to tell everyone to use their inside voice. I needed to shout at my friends to carry a conversation.
A little expensive for a casual lunch but everything on their menu is delicious and are larger portions than you expect. Entrees always last two meals and many of their appetizers can be a meal for one. Now that I work near here again, I will be frequenting this place a lot!
Atmosphere and service was mediocre at best and I had the feeling that the food was an American version of Korean and not very authentic.
Our server was fine...it was the people behind the bar area and at the host station that were not very friendly.
I was waiting for my friends to show up before being seated, and they just were not friendly. I almost felt like I was bothering them. Cheer up people!
The food was good and reasonably priced. It was worth going, and I will return. We had a party of 7. Everyone enjoyed the food.
The staff was nice, but they were not prepared to handle the heavy lunch crowd.
The point of sales machine prices the suggested tip based on the after-tax price, which is wrong. It also suggests too much for lunch.
The noise level was far too loud.
Loved the food and brought all my coworkers there one by one! Marta used to work at zoosk and
I always come either with one on one or in a group! I order for the same food & never get tired of it (soft tofu stew). Just loving Korean food, yummy!
We are Korean-food lovers. If this had been our first Korean meal, we probably would never bothered again.
Several items on the online menu were not on the printed one. More were unavaiable.
There were only 3 panchan (sides, usually a dozen or so) and those included yellowed broccoli.
Dishes were one dimensional, as were sauces.
Despite all this, the small room was full, with many Asian diners.
I had the house specialty, bi bim bap, a nixture of mostly raw or blanched vegetables with, in this case, honey fried chicken which featured mostly batter, served over rice in a stone pot. Bland and boring.
Great service, awesome people with friendly personality. FOOD IS AWESOME! Happy hour is loud and energetic! Tvs to watch sports music good as well.
Food way beyond expectation. Taste and presentation were not closed to any Korean food I had. Seafood crepe looked like hashed brown, not worth trying at all. Clay pot noodles was terrible, small portion and noodles were too soft. Rice is okay only.
One of the worst restaurants I've been to in a long time. The food was 'meh'. We were a group of 6. We ordered 3 appetizers: the sizzling shrimp, glass noodles, and steamed dumplings. All these were just 'fine'. Two of us ordered the sashimi salad, and these were decent. But the rice bowls were sub par -- the eggs were crusty, the seasoning was not good. The atmosphere was loud and crowded. Although our booth should have easily sat six, the tables were jammed into the booth and we all kept kicking each other under the table (I love playing footsie with my co-workers). The table was also damaged. The service was bad. The didn't clear any of our appetizer plates away when our main courses came out. Glorified mall food, for sure.
very loud - you can't barely hear yourself talk. also when we came out of the restaurant, we and our clothes and hairs smells like friend food.
The air circulation is bad and your clothes end up smelling like food.
I've been to Stone many many times. I almost always get the same dish: the bibimbap with brown rice and marinated rib eye. It is usually served in a red-hot stone bowl and is piping hot and delicious.
This time was a major disappointment. We arrived early -- about 11:40 a.m., before the lunch rush. The restaurant was nearly empty. We placed our orders -- and the food came VERY quickly. Too quickly. While the bowl was hot and the food on the top of the dish was hot, the food underneath was only warm. I felt like they keep the bowls hot in the over and then just throw in the food into a hot bowl, rather than cooking the food in the hot bowl -- and this time did not take the time to heat the dish properly.
I will go back -- but I will ask them to make sure the food is heated all the way through.
The restaurant was great! The happy hour was a steal! Half off drinks and appetizers from 5-7. We just had appetizers for dinner and everyone enjoyed it. Some of the food is a little spicy so if you're into that, this is a restaurant for you!
Really great happy hour special with all appetizers and drinks 1/2 off.!
Great for outdoor seating with a large group, chicken wings were amazing
Not authentic Korean food. It is an attempt... The panchan were odd coloring - they tasted fine just odd color for everything. There was a hair in my bibimbab! It also had no flavor, came with a red hot sauce that was not the normal Korean sauce. Bulgogi had ice taste but served warm not hot. Decent service, nice staff, clean bathroom. happy hour for discount on appetizers. Will likely not return.
When they say that the bibimbap is 500 degrees, they aren't kidding - it's really hot! So hot that it was still hot after 20 minutes. It also leaves burnt spots on all of the tables. Even so, it was good, but not great.
I had a craving for Korean cuisine and was not dissapointed with my meal at Stone Korean Kitchen. The appetizers (especially the calamari) were delicious and kim chee was perfect! The only downside, they were out of my favorite chop chae.
I previously dined at Stone Kitchen and enjoyed the food, but this time I ordered the $52 set dinner and picked fried chicken and spicy pork belly. They brought out grilled chicken and spicy pork belly and waiter was kind enough to replace with kalbi as he said the fried chicken was not available even though that's what I asked because the menu said when available. He gave us each a shot of complementary soju to make up for that. But still the pork and kalbi was overcooked and was tough, but I didn't want to complain and wait for them to make it again as we were trying to make punchline comedy show. I'm surprised because my prior visits did not have this issue and I'll have to attribute to a bad night even though I'm not sure why there are no longer Koreans working there anymore. The other issue I had was I made reservations through opentable and entered where the computer screen was which happened to be the to go counter and she directed me to podium to check in where they had a reservation book which did not have my name and the guy just said it was fine. At the end of my meal, I asked the waiter to check in me so I would not have a no show and he bought over the ipad to verify my name and checked me in. But 5 days later I still had not received credit for this dine and I had to email opentable to get my credit.
Loved having a reservation through OpenTable. This place is always packed for lunch and it gets quite loud. But the food is consistently good. Service might need a little reminding to track down replacement plates and the occasional water refill, but the food is great and prices not bad for Embarcadero lunching.
