The Five Fishermen
Very 0leased with the service and quality of food. Certainly not e but cheapest seafood joint in the area, but certainly one of the best and most consistent. Service is beyond terrific and knowledgeable.
A nice place, excellent food, a great night out. Had the steak and lobster, awesome
Excellent service and great food, we had a lovely evening and will surely be back.
Fantastic. We really enjoyed our meal. The menu and wine list are excellent. Alain’s service was first class.
My girlfriend and I had an incredible dinner here last night. The food was delicious. The service was fantastic. Great atmosphere as well
Fine dining should not include vibrations and noise from the neighboring bar at 9pm regardless of the time of year. This left the staff in a very awkward position and guests unable to talk over the noise. Both establishments owned by the same person so no excuse and totally unacceptable. I chose the restaurant for my guests and will not recommend in the future.
We went for New Years with another couple. It was their first time and they loved it. So did we. The bizarre thing was we were sitting next to the sign for the washroom but everyone who had to go asked us where it was. They need to have better signage. Otherwise we loved it. Food was amazing! From appetizers to dessert. I was the only to have dessert because everyone else was full. Great spot and great service!
The ambiance was excellent as well as the service. The food was good but I have tasted better. The food seemed to lack seasoning.
Our New Years dinner was excellent. Our server Phil took outstanding care of us. Food was great as expected. Will return.
THE FOOD,SERVICE AND AMBIENCE WAS EXCELLENT.
Words cannot describe the experience. From the moment we entered the restaurant, we were graced by outstanding service, hospitality, and an atmosphere which set the mood for my party of 2. We were celebrating a very special time and their efforts did not go unnoticed. We had an amazing view and a dining room to ourselves at the chefs table. The manager, and server (peter and Peter I believe) were very appropriate in the timing of greeting and caring for us as per our discussions and other happenings. Multiple rounds of oysters led to enjoying an extended duration and absolute pleasantry until the place closed. Scotch & Wine selection was solid (thanks Will), and we were able to fulfill and exceed our needs. Would recommend for a personal evening.
Seemed to be a quiet night however we had a wonderful time. Blackened halibut, mussels...very nice! Great service!
Amazing food and great, attentive service. Would highly recommend.
Great meal with family at this great restaurant! I have eaten here several times and never been disappointed.
Boring limited menu. No green salad. Over priced for what you get. Venue was completely renovated but the place looks boring and was empty. Perfect place for a staff party or convention style dinner but that’s it.
Tasty food, Great restaurant, Beautiful atmosphere, wonderful staff and a Good time.
Everything was top notch! We attended for a family event where members joined us from Vancouver to NS. Everyone loved the food! The service was simply the best. Thank you
Wendy and Robert
It was my daughter's 13 birthday, we went searching for exactly what we found at Five Fishermen. A memorable experience. The food was outstanding, but further, the staff was incredible. the rose provided with the card signed by the entirety of the staff was a personal touch, not expected at most any other restaurant. Incredible and would recommend to everyone.
Took my husband and friends there to celebrate husband’s birthday. He was disappointed not enough shrimp selections. Very pricey but delicious.
Very relaxing environment to dine in it exceeds Beyond our expectations. The food and wine selections are excellent and service was outstanding. We Highly recommend Five Fisherman fine dining to anyone visiting Halifax.
There was a mouse in the restaurant next to our table.
My husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and wanted to go someplace special. We chose this restaurant because we had heard the food was very good and we had not been there before. We were not disappointed! We both had the seafood stew as an appetizer followed by the sea bass for me and my hubby had the pork chop. Both were delicious. We had very little room for dessert but had to try the caramel cheesecake. Again, it was delicious. We enjoyed the ghost stories, too! Will definitely return.
One of our party asked if there was an alternate to the risotto, the waitress provided several options one of which was lobster mashed potatoes which she chose. The waitress did not tell her that it was an additional $9.00 which came as a surprise when the bill came..
The chow with the salmon was excellent, would have liked a bit more, I certainly enjoyed my meal.
The lemon chive butter with the biscuits made a lovely change from the usual whipped butter.
Scallops were perfect, as was the steak.
The chicken was very good as well. I will be back.
Best meal in a long time. All 6 of us were impressed. Thank you! Sheri
We’ve been going here dating back to the seventies, admit that we hadn’t eaten here since the fire a few years back but decided to go for our anniversary. The meal was just ok, lobster was actually undercooked. Our server was excellent and actually made our evening however.
The food was as exceptional as the service. Great spot for a nice evening!
Between the main course and dessert a mouse came out from under our table, food was quite expensive
The Five Fisherman was always my Dad's favourite place to go for a special occasion. He passed away recently, and so my Mom and I went on what would have been his 86th birthday to mark the occasion. Between the delicious seafood and the very considerate service, it was perfect.
Lovely waitress. Good service and wine list. Expensive.
Excellent service. The servers and staff were friendly and efficient. The food was superb and we enjoyed it very much! Hadn’t been to the restaurant in a decade and I must say that I won’t wait that long to come back next time. Thanks for an amazing time!
The food-5 fishes speciality- was fresh but bland. Our waiter told us he prefers the lobster risotto over what comes with it- which we ordered- but didn’t tell us that was a big upcharge. Our bill was considerably higher than we expected.
I indicated on our reservation that it was our anniversary. Shortly after being seated, we were given 2 glasses of sparkling wine. Following a very delicious meal we were also provided a free desert with "happy anniversary" written in icing sugar. Although these gestures may be common at a lot of fine dining establishments, it was followed up with a personalized card signed by all of the staff. The friendly, welcoming staff, knowledgeable service throughout, delightful menu and overall atmosphere truly contributed to this being a memorable evening. Thank you!
The Five Fishermen was an outstanding dining experience! From the moment we walked in the door until we left, we had the finest service and food! I truly enjoyed The Five Fish dish and the Acadian mussels. This was the perfect end to our first trip to Nova Scotia!
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE! Have had many great dinners and meals with family and friends. Great atmosphere, service and food. 10/10 would recommend.
Overall the restaurant and service were great but thought the food was pricey. The chowder appetizer was the best part of my meal. My friends and I ordered the halibut, scallops and the fish platter. They were delicious, but the sides (rice, risotto and vegetables) weren't worthy of the meal price.
Amazing Acadian mussels and the Five Fish is a must
Good food. Nice atmosphere. Service just ok and there was a mouse.
This was my first time to the Five Fishermen and I was bringing guests - the atmosphere was excellent, the staff professional, engaging knowledgeable and entertaining. The history of the building is a great scene setter but the start of the evening was the food - all my guests were delighted with their choices. Definitely coming back
What a fantastic night we had! The Five Fishermen is one of the more popular places for a reason, and we cannot wait to return to Halifax permanently and make this a regular place on our date night rotation. From the greeting to our departure we were treated and fed well!
I highly recommend the mussels done Acadian style, but the big surprise for me was the pork belly tostadas. I did not expect them to be as delicious as they were, but they were a highlight of the evening. We both splurged a bit on the lobster dinner and it was perfectly cooked with no places too rubbery. I also appreciated the sides which were portioned appropriately and not too overwhelming. It is pre-cracked for those who find the idea of tearing into that delicious little beast daunting. The rum cake for dessert was hands down one of the best balanced desserts we've had. We had a special treat in the form of a scallop ceviche, which was something I would have never thought to try on my own but am glad that I did.
I do want to give special mention to Nolan, who took care of us very well that evening. Friendly, calm, and helpful without being one of those try hard in-your-face types. I had a bit of a weird request with my food and he dealt with it efficiently and professionally. We never felt rushed throughout our meal but we knew that he was always around to help if needed.
While the local stories are abundant, no ghosts decided to dine with us that evening.
Food was very good but overpriced and portions were tiny. Literally ordered a pizza once we returned to our hotel. I guess you're paying a lot for the reputation of the place or something. No ambiance or intimacy at all. Loud as a high school cafeteria. Sat at a row of tables that had one long cushioned bench on one side and chairs on the other. Easily could have reached over and ate off our neighbors plates. I guess our expectations were different. Still, won't be returning.
