The Five Fishermen
Best meal in a long time. All 6 of us were impressed. Thank you! Sheri
We’ve been going here dating back to the seventies, admit that we hadn’t eaten here since the fire a few years back but decided to go for our anniversary. The meal was just ok, lobster was actually undercooked. Our server was excellent and actually made our evening however.
The food was as exceptional as the service. Great spot for a nice evening!
Between the main course and dessert a mouse came out from under our table, food was quite expensive
The Five Fisherman was always my Dad's favourite place to go for a special occasion. He passed away recently, and so my Mom and I went on what would have been his 86th birthday to mark the occasion. Between the delicious seafood and the very considerate service, it was perfect.
Lovely waitress. Good service and wine list. Expensive.
Excellent service. The servers and staff were friendly and efficient. The food was superb and we enjoyed it very much! Hadn’t been to the restaurant in a decade and I must say that I won’t wait that long to come back next time. Thanks for an amazing time!
The food-5 fishes speciality- was fresh but bland. Our waiter told us he prefers the lobster risotto over what comes with it- which we ordered- but didn’t tell us that was a big upcharge. Our bill was considerably higher than we expected.
I indicated on our reservation that it was our anniversary. Shortly after being seated, we were given 2 glasses of sparkling wine. Following a very delicious meal we were also provided a free desert with "happy anniversary" written in icing sugar. Although these gestures may be common at a lot of fine dining establishments, it was followed up with a personalized card signed by all of the staff. The friendly, welcoming staff, knowledgeable service throughout, delightful menu and overall atmosphere truly contributed to this being a memorable evening. Thank you!
The Five Fishermen was an outstanding dining experience! From the moment we walked in the door until we left, we had the finest service and food! I truly enjoyed The Five Fish dish and the Acadian mussels. This was the perfect end to our first trip to Nova Scotia!
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE! Have had many great dinners and meals with family and friends. Great atmosphere, service and food. 10/10 would recommend.
Overall the restaurant and service were great but thought the food was pricey. The chowder appetizer was the best part of my meal. My friends and I ordered the halibut, scallops and the fish platter. They were delicious, but the sides (rice, risotto and vegetables) weren't worthy of the meal price.
Amazing Acadian mussels and the Five Fish is a must
Good food. Nice atmosphere. Service just ok and there was a mouse.
This was my first time to the Five Fishermen and I was bringing guests - the atmosphere was excellent, the staff professional, engaging knowledgeable and entertaining. The history of the building is a great scene setter but the start of the evening was the food - all my guests were delighted with their choices. Definitely coming back
What a fantastic night we had! The Five Fishermen is one of the more popular places for a reason, and we cannot wait to return to Halifax permanently and make this a regular place on our date night rotation. From the greeting to our departure we were treated and fed well!
I highly recommend the mussels done Acadian style, but the big surprise for me was the pork belly tostadas. I did not expect them to be as delicious as they were, but they were a highlight of the evening. We both splurged a bit on the lobster dinner and it was perfectly cooked with no places too rubbery. I also appreciated the sides which were portioned appropriately and not too overwhelming. It is pre-cracked for those who find the idea of tearing into that delicious little beast daunting. The rum cake for dessert was hands down one of the best balanced desserts we've had. We had a special treat in the form of a scallop ceviche, which was something I would have never thought to try on my own but am glad that I did.
I do want to give special mention to Nolan, who took care of us very well that evening. Friendly, calm, and helpful without being one of those try hard in-your-face types. I had a bit of a weird request with my food and he dealt with it efficiently and professionally. We never felt rushed throughout our meal but we knew that he was always around to help if needed.
While the local stories are abundant, no ghosts decided to dine with us that evening.
Food was very good but overpriced and portions were tiny. Literally ordered a pizza once we returned to our hotel. I guess you're paying a lot for the reputation of the place or something. No ambiance or intimacy at all. Loud as a high school cafeteria. Sat at a row of tables that had one long cushioned bench on one side and chairs on the other. Easily could have reached over and ate off our neighbors plates. I guess our expectations were different. Still, won't be returning.
really expensive for what it was, regarding the fact that you can have a lot of better options in this area for the same price or less. Felt like a tourist trap. At the end of our dinner, we saw few mice and the management was not surprised when we told them.
I was surprised we were so disappointed with our evening. After all the great comments here and a recommendation from our hotel, my expectations were high. The service was excellent. Notso with the food or the ambiance. One of us had the salmon which was good. I had the grilled seabass which seemed off at the time, and it kept revisiting me for the next 24 hours. Not sure if it was the sauce, but not good. We were seated next to the glass wine cellar which has glaring fluorescent-like lighting. Made if feel like a Wal-Mart. Finally manager came by and was able to turn it off. Even waiter said it felt much more comfortable. Overall, not sure I'd eat here again.
We had two spectacular dinners at 5Fisherman. Highly recommend from every angle!
Excellent experience; great food, ambiance and service.
I would highly recommend!
Grst service, nice restaurant and ambience. Chowder was great, as was the halibut. Oysters Rockefeller was watery.
I had friends visiting from France. They really enjoyed the Five Fishermen experience and food. Our server, Patrick, was bilingual. He made everyone feel comfortable and welcome - and bounced between French and English in a relaxed, efficient way that included everyone. The service was spectacular and he had the right mix of humour and fun - while being professional.
We had the lobster kinilaw - oh my goodness - it was soooo good! It's one of my new favourite dishes.
Thank you for an amazing evening!
A Halifax institution that sources locally and cooks seafood to perfection.
Outstanding experience all-around. Brought relatives from out of town and you didn't disappoint. Three of the four of us had the Acadian Seafood linguine and it was amazing as was the Coquilles St. Jacque. Very pleased and impressed by the timely service provided by Aaron. He has a sixth sense for showing up with everything at the right moment. I'll be bringing the whole family back in December!
We ordered the five fish as recommended by our server. We feel that the menu should explain to the customer how the seafood is prepared. For example we are great seafood lovers and enjoy our seafood pan fried Or in the case of lobster steamed. However all 5 fish were apparently cooked on the grill. We both felt that this cooking method took away from the flavour of the fish. In fact our lobster tail and the halibut had very a strong charred flavour which overpowered the fish itself. This was brought to the attention of our server who was kind enough to relay our concerns to the chef. The chef then prepared another lobster tail for both my wife and I, which was much more desirable and was a wonderful gesture.
Excellent service and food
Wonderful service! We were celebrating a birthday and they treated us exceptionally!
Exceptional food and service.
Great location. Loved the modern decor and overall atmosphere
Perfect place to have a celebration. Food was outstanding. Servers gave us time to chat without pressure to order. Food did take a while to arrive and they did forget to bring dessert, had to remind them... not cool. But overall, a great experience and the food was outstanding, now isn't that why we go to dinner :)
We enjoyed all aspects of our dining experience...we had the five fish grill and it was wonderful! Service was great as well...so all around a 5 star meal.
My expectations were high since the reviews were pretty good but I was quite disappointed by the lobster dinner. The restaurant and food presentation were great, but the lobster was only medium. Not particularly succulent and small. The claws were practically non-existant and what was touted as 1.5 pounds was probably less than 1.25. The potato side was excellent, but that's not why I ordered the lobster dinner. To be fair, my husband enjoyed his seafood pasta.
We were in Halifax on a cruise and decided to have dinner here. We loved it. The local wine and beer were very good and the seafood was wonderful. Highly recommend the upstairs dining room.
First serious issue, accessibility. Restaurant is on second floor with three sets of stairs. Two of the five liked their food, two though acceptable, and the fifth found steak terrible. Service was just okay, although waiter friendly. Overall, very disappointed and will not return.
3 of our party of 6 had the lobster which was tough and very chewy. We are from the prairies and were looking forward to great seafood and were very disappointed. The steak meals were great as well as the pork chop. Our server was excellent very disappointed in the lobster
Friendly attentive staff, excellent food. We had classic lobster, appetizer and dessert. Extensive wine list.
Great Food and service, i tried the grilled fish and it was cooked to perfection
Very friendly staff. We were a group of 8 and booked on short notice. The staff not only helped with securing a table for 7:00pm on a Saturday evening, but when we arrived early, they did their best to accommodate and we were able to sit 15 minutes prior.
My husband and I attended this restaurant on Saturday night September 28th 7pm. Our reservation was ready on time. Our server was fantastic (cant recall his name). We sat upstairs and the environment was upbeat but not overwhelming. The only complaint I have was our mussels were tiny. I was expecting huge, filling ones since we were in Halifax. They still tasted great but was surprised by their size. And would have loved some bread to sop up the yummy sauce:) I had the seafood risotto and I think it was the best meal I’ve ever had. My husband had the Artic Char and it was equally as delicious. I will dream of this meal and can’t wait to return.
Unfortunately we were a bit disappointed. My husbands salmon was stone cold , so was sent back. By the time the meal came back , all of the rest of the party had finished eating . His veg was also very overcooked and soggy. They also forgot my cauliflower substitute for mushroom with the coquille st Jacques. They did comp the one meal but ..... not impressed for the price.
