Had a delicious lunch with my parents who were visiting from New York. Excellent service and a quiet atmosphere to talk and catch up after two years of not seeing them due to COVID-19. I love the Ritz Carlton San Francisco.
Great service but the food is nothing special yet way overpriced. It’s the Ritz, after all.
One of the best dining experience me and my friend had. Top notch customer service, very clean and relaxed ambience. Worth of a 5-star rate!
Not much point to this review since the lobby lounge will be closing this week, then reopening with a very different vibe. Too bad! I really enjoyed the quiet, elegant atmosphere. There aren't many places like this left. :-(
Apparently the kitchen was offline when we arrived for Sunday lunch. The menu was the equivalent of Room Service and therefore not very distinguished. Good service and a plerasant room to eat in. I would like to try it again when they have a full menu.
Great wait staff, as wait staff's go, specific to Hotel Lounges in San Francisco. Very attentive team and they pitched in for each other. Problem is, I was told the Lobby Lounge does not accept reservations. What, what, what!? Very unfortunate, considering a reservation was taken. As a frequent visitor of Ritz Hotels, the management at this location seems to be lacking in general, within several areas of service
Service was inattentive this time. My previous service experience was attentive.
This is a handy place to meet for a quiet lunch in the Financial District - if you and your guest can climb the steep hill to get there from any direction (or can pay for parking at the hotel). We had a table by the window, and had a nice view of the Bank of America building and its neighbors. The servers were sweet, but timid and not particularly attentive. The food was fine, but not as great as the menu made it sound. It came fairly quickly, and was nicely plated. I'd skip dessert next time - small servings, nothing special, and $12 each. Coffee was $8. Still, it was a nice change from the tight seating at the cafes down the hill, and I'd go back again with a client, since this one was grateful for the treat
The service was excellent and staff extremely attentive. The menu was limited but had a nice selection for lunch. The crabcake BLT was tasty, a wonderful Cesar salad and the burgers looked great! Nice widow table for 2 with a view of the city. Not as pricey as you would think for the Ritz and a great spot for a romantic, quite bite…The valet parking was also convenient, they mentioned $ 20.00 fee but I was never charged, just tipped the valet accordingly.
Would not recommend the restaurant for lunch.
I've had excellent dinners here in the past, but this lunch was a bit wanting. Good food, energetic service at first, but then it was like pulling teeth to get the dessert and check. 2.5 hours for lunch is a bit long. Everyone was friendly, and the food was delicious.
I was asked by three separate service people if I wanted a pellegrino with lemon -- I said yes each time. Yet, somehow I never got one. The food was good as expected from a Ritz and the service is like all large union hotels. Not good not bad just always a bit put out and distracted from the real job of actually "serving".
Met my expectations. It was a lovely occasion and an equally lovely setting. Always enjoy the harpist, I have seen her in many locations and it was nice to see her at the Ritz too.
Great service ! I took my grand daughter to High Tea on a Friday which was all you would hope for. Except the Rits only does High Tea on the weekend. The staff graciously accomodated us with all the finery and trimmings despite my error. They provided a lovely memory of a special day.
Always exceptional food and service.
I just had breakfast here. The food was pretty good, but the service was fair at best. My juice glass and coffee cup were empty for a significant part of the meal. And the waitstaff didn't pay much attention to our table after bringing out our food. The hostess was helpful and professional, as were some of the waiters. But some of the waiters were obviously not happy to be there.
I've also been to the Ritz-Carlton for Sunday brunch, and that was a much better experience.
This was my first time at the Sunday Brunch. We went for a friends birthday. The staff was friendly and attentive. We did not feel rushed.
I like the fact that you order one course from the menu and while that is being prepared, you are free to select items from the buffet tables which includes made to order omelets.
I would recommend the Terrace Room Brunch.
The Terrace Room was very European in feel and quite elegant. The server was personable and helpful. The food was prepared well and the choices for lunch ample.
My friends and I will definitely be back for lunch again soon.
Frankly, a bit disappointing.
The food was adequate, but vastly overpriced. The selection for the breakfast buffet was, at these lofty prices, rather meager, although the quality was good. [Excepting the breakfast potatoes which underperformed Tater Tots]
Fortunately the setting is quite attractive, and the service was very good.
We thought that it was a little overpriced at $55 per person but we are not fans of buffets. There is an option to order an entree off the menu but the fruit course and dessert course are buffet.
Enjoyable and relaxing venue to enjoy brunch/lunch. The food was very good and the service was excellent.
My wife and I had the Sunday brunch at the restaurant. The format had been changed 6 weeks previous to our visit. The fine china and trademark blue glasses were gone. The buffet was different - no shrimp, no lamb or beef being cut as you asked for it. The buffet in its place was primarily an omlette station with a continental breakfast. However an entree was now included in the price, which had been lowered from the previous version of the buffet. If you ate an omlette and a continental breakfast, the entrees were superfluous. The menu should be offered in 3 versions - entrees with no beffet, buffet with no omlettes, and both. If you were at the buffet for the first time, this would seem pretty good. No longer a romantic getaway ...
The Ritz has considerably scaled down its brunch, but not sufficiently scaled back its prices. The new brunch gets you one entree, a VERY limited buffet, one small glass of champagne, a generous selection of desserts and a beverage. The dishes were all very good (we are a family of tasters), but at $55, it's mostly not worth it. On the other hand, the room is beautiful, and it feels very festive, so I can see going on a special occasion. However, if I were to look for a luxe buffet, I would try re-visiting the Top of the Mark or the Sheraton Palace.
Overall, I was very dissappointed. I assumed I would be in the lovely room near the entrance of the hotel. It was roped off for afternoon tea. If I had known, I would have reseved for tea. The Terrace is cold and uninteresting in atmoshpere. It took forever for my lunch to arrive - it was only a hamburger and there were only two other tables in use at the time. The hamburger came with nothing on it. Fortunately, the very nice waitress brought lettuce and tomato after I commented how lonely the hamburger looked.
The wait staff was beyond casual. Not what anyone would expect at the Ritz. I have eaten at the SF Ritz many times but my experience for Xmas eve lunch was very disappointing. My partner and I were shocked by the sloppy uniforms worn by the waiters. Most of their appearance was what you would expect at a Denny's. While our soup and entree were good...the yule log was horrible (especially for the $65 price tag that the Ritz charges for a 3 course lunch. What's more there was a restaurant manager observing the bad service, etc and nothing was corrected. One doesn't expect a waiter at the Ritz to look under your table and say, "Oh you must have liked it, I can't find it anywhere". Sorry, but that was our last trip to the Ritz.
My last visit to The Terrace was about a year ago and much has changed since then, not all for the better. Gone were the buffet tables laden with a wonderful variety of dishes. Now, an omelet bar for custom-created omelets - good but not very adventurous. Now a list of "entrees" from which to pick ONE and, finally a dessert table with a good variety of choices. The service was mediocre. Three requests for a cup of coffee before it arrived. Missing cutlery and a cream jug that proved difficult to get remedied. One waiter - who never served anything to the table - persisted in asking whether everything was "OK - so far." His concern made me think it was just a matter of time before something was about to go awry. Miserable table location.
The previous Sunday Brunch buffet offered was so much better than the current offering. The service was also very poor, unfortunately. We asked for our beverages three different times and the waiters looked confused as to which tables were theirs. Plates were not cleared timely. The Ritz brunch is unfortunately no longer my special occasion Sunday place.
Still a great Holiday lunch idea. I really wish they woul dbring back the piano player, it was very nice.
I have to say, I was disappointed with the food and the service at the Terrace at the Ritz Carlton. Given Ritz Carlton's reputation for quality and attention to detail, my lunch experience at the restaurant was not what I would expect from a Ritz Carlton property. The food was mediocre and not very good, and the service was just sub-standard (eg. mixup on who ordered what, waiter disappeared after food was delivered and I had to wait for a long time, even having to ask a busboy to have someone process my payment).
For such a beautiful restaurant setting, and the pricing, I expected much more.
We were there for brunch and this was a great experience.
The teas and coffees are amazing.
For entrees, I would recommend the lobster omelet: delicious, generous and perfectly cooked. The dessert array is also unbelievable.
The staff is not only unstuffy and very friendly but also knowledgeable about all the food and drink offerings.
I will certainly go back and warmly recommend to friends.
The artichoke soup and scallops were delicious. Loved the ambience and the lack of the ususal restaurant noise. You could actually talk.
The server staff are superb. They check in and ask if you want your coffee cup changed. My party loved the capucciano. Except for the table got seated later with his blackberry set to full blast and kept on ringing was really annoying. They should post sign or advice their staff that cell phone should be set to vibrate. Overall it was an awesome brunch.

We expected exceptional service and food, however both were short of the reputation of Ritz. It was our first time for brunch and wanted to check it out for a special occassion. When we initially sat down, the service was attentive to getting drinks ordered. However, we were unsure of how the buffet or brunch menu worked. None of the waiters informed us and we had to ask. We noticed a couple who had sat down just after us who were ushered to the buffet and given the tour by the waiter. We received no such treatment and went to venture on our own. The food selection was great, quality was good but not exceptional. Very good coffee. Overall, overpriced for the quality of food and service we received and did not meet expectations.
Best Brunch in the Bay Area -- the difference between this and similar Sunday Brunch Buffets is the quality of the food, gourmet everything. My only disappointment was the fact that although the waiter was very nice and attentive, the coffee guy just paraded around while my cup was empty. During the hour we were there it was refilled only once and that was after I flagged down the waiter -- not what you'd expect from a top notch brunch spot!
This is the brunch of all brunches!!! It was my birthday..and I wanted a wonderful Sunday brunch. The selectin of food was unbelievable!! Everything you could imagine from the roasted lamb chops to the lobster bisque to the cheese plate to the freshly made omlettes...
We did not eat the rest of the day and walked forever...
Everyone should try this brunch at least once if you have the opportunity...very pricey, but well worth it.
Loved the live music.
One complaint: Although brunch comes with Champagne, none of the people in our party drank. We were still charged the same price.
In fairness, I think there should be a non-alcoholic brunch pricing option, like the afternoon tea.
Also, vegetarian options were limited.
The service was bad & lousy! I can't believe I'm in a Ritz! Our server didn't come to take our order until we told other people to get him (which is like 15 minutes sitting in), and he never checked on us to see how's the food. And, the food was super slow. Most important of all, our water was not filled FOR ONCE during our dining. The restaurant didn't notice our dissatisfaction (of course because no one is on the floor!) until we complained to the management, but the damage is done! We'll never visit this Ritz again!
Nice space, VERY high prices, small portions.
While the atmosphere was terrific,the service wasn't that "hot". Waiter wasn't informative regarding the locations of where each food kiosk was located, ie omelettes and desserts were in another room behind the dining tables which couldn't be readily seen, the service person wasn't told that the coffee accouterments weren't set, coffee and tea were not refilled until we asked. Small things like this are not acceptable when the brunch buffet was more then $78.00 per person.
I probably would not return if only there was some other place with such great ambience.
