We arrived on a busy night and were warned of a long wait for food.
Unfortunately, they were understaffed and some staff lacked training and appeared unprofessional.
The food was hit and miss. Hake was good, children's meals fine (apart from bones in the fish) but a basic caesar salad had soft croutons and a mediocre dressing. A £9 cheeseboard had a reasonable stilton and smoked apple wood but a camembert that tasted of nothing. A request for a chutney to accompany the cheese was met with mango chutney which I found very bizarre.
There was no food check during the meal and when I mentioned the issues, I was told to speak to the manager when I paid. By this time we had had enough so just paid our bill and left.
Regardless of the poor service (I can appreciate that it was busy), some of the quality of the food was poor.
We would not rush to return.
The staff are always friendly and do their best to accommodate us, especially my requirement for a dairy free option. The food is great, well presented and great value. The Masons Arms is an old pub with lots of character and has some really nice areas to sit as well as loads of seating outside too. The toilets have always been immaculately clean too which is reassuring. Overall, we love it!
Amazing. We had the Hake which was excellent. Sensibly sized plates and portions. Wish we lived nearer so we could come every week!!
Lovely country pub, wonderful food and great service.
Outstanding welcome, extremely friendly. Highly recommended.
Very polite and helpful staff
Only issue was rather slow food service - we waited for more than 45 minutes between starters and main dishes
Lovely food served beautifully and really accommodating and polite staff.
This is the second time we have visited in the last couple of weeks. The lunchtime that we came last time was excellent. The menu was great and we were able to sit in the delightful garden. However this time we were a group of 5 in the evening. The menu isn't nearly so good, with nothing on the starters I would have chosen. I ended up with a burger as there was really nothing else that appealed on the main menu. One of our guests had the lamb. It was the size of 2 small golf balls and some indeterminate vegetables and burnt potato. For £20 this was exhortionate! The haddock was well overcooked. The only meal that looked appetising was the ham, egg and chips although this would be difficult to get wrong
For 6.00 p.m the restaurant was very busy, and I wonder if this pub is having the same difficulty that many pubs are having in getting good chefs.
The waiting staff were attentive and quick.
It is a lovely pub with good waiting staff, and I had hoped that this would be our go to 'local' pub, but I doubt we will have an evening meal there again unless the menu and ability to cook it properly changes
We booked for a Sunday evening meal in a pub, thinking it would be busy, especially as it was the evening of the finals of the euro football, but at 7:00pm, we were the only ones there, so the atmosphere was sadly lacking.
On our way up to the pub from the camping field, we passed lots of fruit, vegetables and herbs etc being grown in the garden, and so thought we would be in for a treat, But the food was only just about acceptable, and in no way reflected the price. The beer however was excellent.
To top off our experience, just before 8:30, we were told the pub closes at 8:30 on Sundays, and so we had to leave.
I have to say, though, the camping in the field behind was excellent for the night.
This is the first time we have felt the need to write a rather negative review.
Main courses excellent but dessert very disappointing
Table was a bit cramped and very close to the thoroughfare to the bar and exit.
Food was good and nicely presented.
Service a bit slow, but that wasn’t a problem.
Slightly worrying that many guests were moving around the pub without masks or face coverings.
Excellent service, very comfortable room, fine dining, all round A1
Welcoming staff, good food, high level of COVID awareness and appropriate precautions
Nice ambiance. 22222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222
Would like to thank the staff for a friendly service and great food . This is our local and we can’t fault it ……
Super cute pub, lovely clean facilities, accommodating staff, only down side is it’s tricky getting in and out of the car park in a motor home, caravan etc.
I booked for 2 and phoned ahead to change to 3. Very pleasant on the phone and the pub is charming in a pretty ham stone village. We sat outside amongst the beautiful cottage flower borders. Food and drink excellent and good value for money. The staff friendly and helpful. didn’t see much inside but it looked very nice. This is a hall and woodhouse pub so we knew the beer would be excellent. Always look for this brewery as always good quality. From all the places we have lived - Surrey, Kent and Sussex we have used many of the brewers pubs and never been disappointed
Perfect evening staff and food all amazing. Will definitely be back.
Tasty food and friendly service, relaxed atmosphere.
Food was wonderful as usual, service was a bit slow but it was busy. Staff very friendly and helpful. Been coming to this pub for over 17 years and it's still worth the drive from Dorset.
Very friendly service, nicely presented food with some ipnteresting dishes.
I found the Masons Arms online as was looking for somewhere to eat near Sparkford on Fathers Day. What an amazing find!
The food was amazing, more than enough on the plate and the service was excellent. The only disappointment was that we didn’t get to try the spectacular looking roast as they had run out of gravy just as we arrived! The alternatives that we chose were delicious, well cooked and well presented.
The pub itself was cosy and tastefully decorated. The toilet facilities were immaculately clean.
We will definitely return when in the area, hopefully for a roast this time!
Very welcoming. Polite, non intrusive service. Cleanliness first class. Staff extremely
Pleasant. Would highly recommend.
Great dog friendly pub. Superb meal with attentive service.
Excellent food. All four of us had a different dish and we all really enjoyed our choice.
As always atmosphere was great - as was service. Good very good as usual
all together excellent food was very good and piping hot fair selection of starters and mains good proportions tables well spaced and covid restrictions in place we are returning again tonight
The best place to meet up, have a drink and some lunch. The staff are really helpful, it has outside and inside seating, the food is good quality and well prepared. Overall, an absolutely outstanding venue and restaurant. We’ll be looking forwards to booking up again soon.
Great food, venue and the waitress couldn’t be more friendly and helpful. A wonderful little pub.
Not up to usual standard, food was not hot, we were disappointed overall
Not as good as it use to be Wondered why now found out under new management Need to up their game disappointing
Ist visit and will not be the last. Such good food and good value.
poor service outside and food was just average. had higher expectations.
Stopped by for breakfast with friends... excellent!
Really good food but service got a bit slow so we left sooner than we wanted as realised desserts would take too long. But can never fault the food and we will always go back. Lovely pub.
Excellent food and friendly staff. Tasty starters, and the aubergine cannelloni main course was inspired. The duck in a pastry packet was enhanced by a most accomplished and delicious sauce.
Sunday evening meal.
Would definitely go again if in the area.
Food was very good and staff were very friendly.
Meal service could have been faster but all in all a very good meal in pleasant surroundings.
Had a great meal here. Good vegetarian options and very fresh.
Had a breakfast here too and it was really good.
The staff were friendly but don't seem to communicate to each other which made things awkward
Lovely food always very tasty. Lovely customers lovely service
