The Royal Oak - Yattendon
We were disappointed to find the ‘flatbread’ was just a bread roll, quite tough and the same roll served up with the prawns in a very oily sauce. The peach and almond tart was delicious.
Recommended by a friend and I will definitely return. Good food Great Service. Well done Team Royal Oak.
Always consistently good; excellent menu, food and service.
Very good food and lovely interior. A little pricey but worth it
It has been a couple of years since last I visited the Royal Oak, a pub of which I am particularly fond. When last I visited it, I was informed that some construction and refurbishment work was being undertaken which, on occasion can have a detrimental affect upon the general presentation and atmosphere of a pub. This is not the case with the Royal Oak. The dining room extension and development is first class - airy, light and appealing. The food was very good and despite the fact that the pub had a large party of people attending a luncheon, the service was still very good.
It seems trite to point to a drawback but the bar area has now become a virtual walk through to the Restaurant whereas previously, it had been self contained, dedicated drinking area but that was literally the only negative observation. Everything else was very good.
Very pleasant atmosphere, good food and drink and helpful staff
Beautiful restaurant, friendly staff, great food. Perfect place to celebrate.
Nice place to eat but wedding party made it quite busy
Quality food and an imaginative menu make for a relaxed restaurant ambience
The only real negative was the young guy serving us , he kept coming to the table trying to push us , first with the order, then with the food , coffee, bill etc. If the place had been busy and he wanted the table I could have understood. But the place was only a third full. This is not a fast food establishment! Otherwise all was good
My swordfish was over cooked and tough
Great service though
BETTER THAN LAST TIME. seems lunch time service and food is much better than evening from my experience.
The place was lovely. Staff were a bit daur but warned up after a time !
Very pleasant dining room. Light and airy. Attentive staff. Lovely garden.
Great afternoon, warm and dry enough to sit outside as inside was busy and quite noisy with many families and their children.
Great food and service.
Puppy heaven , great food and a welcome for a quiet and well behaved dog. All had fun and great lunch even with it being very busy
We had a delicious birthday lunch here. The menu is excellent as it caters to my boy's/husband's tastes and also offers dishes that appeal to women. Service is efficient and staff friendly. All in all a wonderful place, especially since they have added that gorgeous conservatory.
Very enjoyable lunch with good service and a very pleasant ambience. Restaurant looks to have been recently refurbished in a lovely modern style.
Have been before and had lovely experiences but this time the meal was spoiled by the very slow service. We asked to sit outside as we had our dog with us. We were the only people eating outside and it seemed ‘out of sight, out of mind’. We ended up leaving without pudding as we were again left waiting with no one to take our order. Went and found someone to get us the bill instead. Funnily enough that was done very quickly.
Attentive service, excellent traditional Sunday lunch with interesting starters. Welcoming and friendly, will definitely come again.
Great quality food, every dish was delicious and will certainly return.
Buzzy ambiance, varied, interesting menu, excellent food. An ll round good night out!
For many years The Royal Oak has been our ‘go to’ place for a dinner. However, I have to say that since the completion of the Orangery, we feel the place hash lost its charm. The food is ok, but nothing more than that - although the addition of a pizza oven will no doubt appeal to families
Overall I’d say it’s pretty average now and that’s a shame.
Good food and efficient prompt service. No pressure.
The actual Sunday Lunch menu was nothing like the sample menu on the website. We were told that it was a shortened menu but this left us with very limited choice and we would not have booked Sunday Lunch if we had known that this was going to be the case as we were left with choices that we didn't really want.
luckily part of the party had to cancel, otherwise, having shown them the menu, they would have been disappointed i think.
I would be happy to book again but would check the menu first .
Great place to eat. Excellent food, well cooked and presented.
Love the Royal Oak and it's a stunning pub and restaurant. The food on this occasion was a little disappointing. Like the ribs which were previously outstanding, but were just average and other dishes lacked finesse. Perhaps a change of chef or supplier issues. I would still recommend. Their walled garden is gorgeous and a delight if it's not pouring with rain!
Very nice place with a variety of different styled dining areas.
Friendly, helpful staff, sometimes missing for longer periods.
Food is good. Good, staple pub fare with a few twists, but not outstanding.
Enjoyed it & would definitely go again.
Very good, but my starters were either swimming in juice or too oily.
We had a lovely family lunch. The restaurant staff are very good with children. Quite laid back. We love the new orangerie. It is so light and airy. Our only quibble was with the menu for grown ups. Strange combinations that didn't particularly appeal to us. The children, however, loved their menu of pizza and ice cream.
Char Sui ribs are delicious. Lovely setting, indoors and out. Friendly staff.
All good. Thank you.
We are only in the area for a couple of weeks had have eaten here twice in days.!!! The swordfish with vermicelli noodles and the cauliflower mains were fantastic. Staff really friendly and efficient. Will be back again before we go home!!!
Food was excellent. The dining area is also very nicely decorated, clan and airy. The service was mediocre; not a lot of effort made to make you feel welcome, quite brusque generally and not particularly attentive. It was functional service but I would have expected more to balance with the excellent food served.
Food was very delicious and perfectly cooked although on the pricey side - £19.50 for Sunday Roast and £7.50 for a dessert. The pub is decorated to a high modern standard with linen napkins and staff were polite and attentive.
Lovely garden area with plenty of seating. Obviously a popular venue which did mean noise levels were quite high but to be expected on a Sunday lunchtime.
The food was delicious, the service friendly and attentive without being intrusive and the atmosphere relaxed and happy - looking forward to returning.
Our meal was delicious, beautifully cooked and well presented. The staff were friendly and courteous, and we were well looked after. The prices were reasonable for the high quality of the food and service. There are two or three restaurant areas, all beautifully designed, especially the large conservatory area which had a lovely garden beyond. Parking is either on-street or at the small public carpark a few yards from the Royal Oak. We also stayed two nights at the hotel, and can recommend it as a very comfortable place to stay as well as to eat.
Beautiful surroundings, polite and kind staff, delicious food. Pricey for what we ate but a lovely experience and we will be back!
Went to celebrate exam results for my daughter & the team were great..they couldnt'have bene more attentive. I screwed up and ordered a Tuna Poke bowl not realising it was raw tuna (my bad!) and they were great - replaced the meal with an amazing risotto..without making me feel uncomfortable..thank you
About 10 years since we were last there. What a difference - for the better. Definitely on the list!
