I have not gone here many, many times and it was always wonderful. However, for a variety of reasons I have not gone in probably a year. I was therefore glad to see that, if anything, it has improved. The diversity of the dishes is more, but the service, quality of the food and ambiance have gotten even better. My one concern is for the long-term viability. I remember it being far busier than it was. There were only four or five table occupied, although I cannot see why.
Appetizers & main courses very good
Always great!
One of our favorite places to have dinner. My wife and I have come here for our anniversary on three occasions in recent years. The food is exceptional and the waiter staff are lovely. Have a great Christmas!
This was a wonderful choice for our anniversary dinner. They have a 4-course fixed price dinner on Thursdays. Every course is delicious and beautifully presented. Clearly one of the best restaurants for a special occasion in Connecticut.
Outstanding as always from the moment we arrived at the door, where someone was waiting to open it, until we left after a delicious and creative meal. The place never seems to get old!
No one was there. We booked reservations on open table for 10 am on Sunday the sign on the door said 10am. No one was in the restaurant we called 2x with no response. We waited till 10:10 and left.
Dishes were beautifully presented, but food was a bit on the salty side. Loved the ambiance and the waitstaff is as nice as they come. Can't wait for another occasion to dine there.
Great restaurant. Good food and excellent service.
Amazing. I’ll be back. The service, ambiance and food were exceptional.
We are looking forward to our next meal at The Schoolhouse at Cannondale
We really enjoy The Schoolhouse at Cannondale. The ambiance is nice and cozy. The service is unassuming and they don't rush you at all. The food and drink are all uniquely tasty farm to table creations that shift along with the seasons. Getting to enjoy this local gem is #priceless. This last visit we enjoyed starters of pork belly and foie gras (perfectly seared). Our mains were the duck duo-- duck breast was fantastic and confit spring rolls were addictive and fall off the bone lamb shank. We weren't even hungry for dessert until we saw earl gray panna cotta with sorbet and berry coulis. Simply fantastic. Do yourself a favor and try this place. If you enjoy Thursday date nights-- their tasting menu with wine pairings is a value you just cannot beat.
Already recommended it twice in the 48 hours since I was there...lovely place. Great service (attentive without being obtrusive), great tasting meal, pretty view of the river if you’re on the window side of the room. My only issue was with the portion size.
Our first impression was poor. The white wine we were served was much too cold and lost much of its taste. My wife ordered bronzino and rated it excellent. I had the pork loin which was overcooked and dry. More sauce would have helped. Desert was good . Service was satisfactory.
Brunch was wonderful - as always! LOVE the staff - so warm and welcoming- went above and beyond on a rainy day walking out with umbrellas to escort guests inside!!
I am very disappointed to learn that Sunday brunch is being discontinued. I am sure it's a good business decision but I will miss you!
Many thanks!
Food was fabulous. Have been to the Schoolhouse many time and have never been disappointed.
What a great meal!
The apple and rutabaga soup was so light and flavorful, a great purée. Our pecan and cranberry bread was perfect with room temperature butter- perfect.
The pork medallion with polenta was amazing and everything you think of for fall meals.dessert was carrot cake with pear and it also was just right.
Even the French press coffee was just right
Will definitely be back.
Always charming wonderful service and a tasty meal. Schoolhouse never disappoints
This was my second visit here and it had been about 2 years since eating at the Schoolhouse. It was restaurant week and there were 3 magnificent choices, all of which were amazing. The food could not have been more beautifully presented with organic touches and absolutely delicious. Perfect lunch spot or equally lovely at dinner. Service was subtle and carefully orchestrated. The setting was perfect in a historical school house tucked into a tiny corner of Cannondale. Impressive, classy, delicious, perfectly presented in a very special setting.
Thae Schoolhouse at Cannondale is always a great experience. The food is impeccable, the service extraordinary and the atmosphere is unparrelled. This is my go-to place for special occasions and it's never let me down. If you want an outstanding dining experience you picked the right place!!
Well thought out food combinations and quality food. Good ambiance and able to hold conversation. low noise level. little on pricey side but worth it compared to other restaurants when you compare the quality and ambiance.
As explained on Yelp too, we thought the food, location, ambiance and service was impeccable at Schoolhouse. It’s too bad they don’t have a bar but that might destroy the ambiance. We recommend the branzino and also the steak. Odd location near the Cannondale rr station which must be the smallest station in CT.
Wonderful food in cozy setting. Service great at the beginning but got slower and slower as the meal went on.
Excellent food with beautiful ambience and attentive service...perfect place for an anniversary dinner, will definitely be back!
It was very good
The food was so clean and delicious! The service was good. They originally forgot our hot chocolate. No biggie. The shops that surround are so quaint. Just loved the whole experience.
I had the risotto starter and branzino main course, everything had such depth of flavors!
Amazing flavors. Wonder-ful recipes. Great experience.
Always a treat to eat at the Schoolhouse. Love their brunch. Such a quiet peaceful setting, such a wonderful staff, and the food never disappoints, always so good.
Charming little restaurant, a bit hard to find (set in from the main road), but well worth the effort. We found the food to be terrific, the service very attentive, and the ambiance delightful. We will certainly go back in the future.
ALL a treat - thank you so much! Service, ambiance, food - all the very best. Treat to self to visit!
The setting is charming, but very noisy when full as the tables are close together and the ceiling is low. The food is superb, wonderfully small proportions so that there is room to enjoy the four courses which are required for the overall price for dinner. I highly recommend The Schoolhouse.
One of my favorite places for brunch! Charming and a real gem!
This was my first time here. I was basically going to sample the food to see whether to hire them to cater a wedding for us.
The service was a major downfall. When we sat and were having a cocktail, the waiter stalked the table as he wanted the order. Once he got it, he was very inattentive. Our dinners were served and though my daughter and I needed a glass of wine, the waiter never returned to the table. We were also without water refills at this point.
My pasta dish was extremely salty and I had nothing to wash it down with so I didn't eat it. For dessert we ordered Chocolate Souffle. This came with a sorbet that was highly salted.
To be fair, the other three people in the party enjoyed their food and my corn soup was delicious.
This place is just too pricey to not be perfect.
Always a nice event, great food and terrific service!
We made a reservation to celebrate my birthday with family at The Schoolhouse. We had been there several years ago and had a great meal. On the reservation it was noted that we were celebrating a birthday. My husband reminded the waiter that it was my birthday celebration when he ordered the chocolate souffle early in the meal. We arrived at 8:00pm and were seated promptly. Water was poured and both butter and salt were placed on the table. We ordered drink and still no bread arrived 20 minutes went by...still no bread. Finally we ask the busboy to bring us bread for the table and some lemon for the water. The bread arrived and the lemon never came. We ordered appetizers and entrees. I asked for lemon a 2nd time when the food arrived and we finally received it. The meal was solid. Thought it was odd that the waiter never checked to see how we were enjoying our meal. The table was cleared and we were eagerly waiting for out souffle with a candle since my family was preparing to sing "Happy Birthday." The waiter dropped the souffle on the table with the sauce and continued back to the kitchen- No candle. My husband shrugged his shoulders and said that there was no point since dessert already came out and there would be no point. Five minutes later they brought out a Birthday dessert with a candle to another table. It seems as if the waitstaffs' performance is perfunctory and on auto-pilot, they do what is absolutely essential (take the order & deliver the food), but don't really listen to the customer. There was no genuine effort to connect with us. While the food was excellent, the service was lackluster. Sad to end the evening on a low point.
The creative balance of flavors in Chef Michelle’s dishes is amazing and just gets better and better.A++ meals every time.
Wonderful lunch with a friend. We celebrated our upcoming birthdays. Always delicious. I’ve never had a bad meal.
A truly wonderful dining experience. One of my favorite restaurants in any city.
Always excellent, never disappoints. Our go-to place for a special meal.
