    Had table near door to outside dining…very chilly when waiters open door constantly. Prime rib at $60 way overpriced for quality Trout was excellent. Wait staff fairly attentive.

    In the past year, we have had wonderful , memorable meals in Santa Barbara, Honolulu, Barcelona, and Dubrovnik. Our dinner last night at The Smoking Goat was the best of the best. We had four different dinners and two appetizers and everything was perfect. We first ate at The Smoking Goat when it first opened and often ate there when we lived in the neighborhood. This was our first visit back in a few years and the Smoking Goat is better than ever. A tip: the tap water is filtered and is better than any bottled water. We’ll be back!

    We tried The Smoking Goat to celebrate my son's birthday. It was a fabulous dining experience. The food was great. My son had octopus which he loved, then steak frites. He said the steak melted in his mouth. I had the duck l'orange, which was so tasty I had to close my eyes to savor the flavor. Everyone else's meals were great as well. The service was outstanding. The ambiance is elegant without being stuffy. Thanks for a great evening.

    Came here to celebrate my mom’s birthday and they made sure it was a truly memorable experience. Drinks were delicious and server Ryan was extremely upbeat, friendly and helpful. Escargots and duck pate appetizers were out of this world. My prime rib and my mom’s pork chop entrees were so amazingly presented, tender, moist and flavorful. Portions were very generous. Even got a crème brûlée desert on the house to celebrate the occasion! Thank you Smoking Goat for the experience and wonderful memories, will definitely be back!

    Unfortunately it was not a great experience. Went to celebrate our anniversary and introduce our friends to the restaurant. The waiter bailed on us mid dinner and handed us off to another server. They forgot to bring several things that we ordered and to top it off the Prime Rib that people have raved about was not prepared well at all. The manager (I believe) did stop by though we did not ask to speak with him. Honestly, I was so embarrassed that I brought my friends from out of town there to celebrate a birthday and anniversary. We will probably give them another shot but not for awhile.

    Duck liver pate appetizter some yummy wine and then scallops with butternut risotto! Delicious. Great service. Vibrant atmosphere. Parking is a challenge though.

    Great food and experience! The restaurant itself is very homey and has great ambiance. We came on a not so busy Thursday night and ordered almost half the menu. Our waiter was super attentive and had nice recommendations. Food came quick and service was great, had multiple servers help us throughout dinner. Can’t wait to come back again!

    The food was amazing but our server did not care for us. He didn't come back to offer a refill on wine or came back to ask us if we needed anything when our food was dropped. He was not available so we missed out on ordering bread, asking for salt, getting a second round of drinks. I emailed the management hoping to get at least an apology but they didn't care to respond. Why would we return when we're leaving a $75 tip to be ignored?

    This was our first time visiting the smoking goat. It was amazing!!! We had the mussels, escargot’s, French onion soup, prime rib, scallops, and crème brûlée. Everything was so delicious. The wine selection and service were fantastic. I would 100% recommend this place. We will be back very soon !

    We were a group of 5 and reserved ahead of time but were seated at a table meant for 4, which means I was on the end with hardly any room on the tabletop for my food and drinks; this did not seem to phase our server Ryan whatsoever, even when the main course came and it was placed in the tiny area in front of me. Additionally, I was seated in the walkway to another table and servers and diners kept bumping into my chair the entire evening and acting like I shouldn’t have been there. I honestly expected a lot more from a restaurant of this caliber and price point, and cramming us into this small table negatively affected our dining experience.

    I really enjoy the food at this place and have been coming for many years. This last visit however, was very disappointing with the service. The hostess needed her hair tied up. It was to her waist and she had an odor to it. Health department matters! Our waiter never served wine, never picked up dirty plates and never even came back to serve water. My husband was the waiter lol. Another waiter that spoke Spanish was wonderful & he ended up helping us a lot! Our waiter then comes out and says his manager wants him to leave and leaves the check. At a restaurant such as this, and having been in the restaurant industry myself, I cannot stand the pressure to "hurry up and leave," as when we arrived we were not given a "time limit" on our seating. My husband was very upset. The waiter ends up waiting to use the restroom, and walks past our table in his "civilian clothing" and a backpack and rushed out. Very inappropriate! On top of THAT, it is not an inexpensive restaurant at all! Great food from the cooks! Shoutout to the Mexicans in the kitchen! Need more work with the staff.

    We made a reservation for 7:30 but ended up being ready to go earlier. I called the restaurant at 6:30 and they agreed to take us early. Host was super friendly, as was our server. I had the poached pear salad and the steak frites. Both were incredible! My dinner date had the chicken and she said it was delicious. I really wanted dessert but was way too full. Next time! One of my fave restaurants in San Diego for sure!

    First impressions are lasting. In a nutshell, this 11-yr establishment has the spirit of entertainment. (Loved their Halloween enhancements.). Ambience; rustic farm decor. Eclectic. We ordered a bowl of their onion soup, the pork chop and the mussels All were out of this world delicious! C'est magnifique! Experience is made whole by the service team. Alan was always checking in. And the support made unneeded tableware disappear. The icing on the cake was a strawberry crème brûlée. They knew we were celebrating our anniversary. Thank you TSG!! We will be back with friends!

    Food was amazing! The beet salad was refreshing. Steak frites was awesome. The pork chop was so tender. Dessert was banana bread fosters and creme Brulee. Our waiter, Allan was attentive but let us enjoy our meal and the atmosphere.

    We got seated 35+ minutes after our reservation and then waited 15 more minutes for drinks. When mentioning to our hostess she glazed over it and didn’t do anything to make it right. Disappointing as we’ve been fans for a while but the service has gone down hill.

    We had a very good dinner at the Smoking Goat. Food and service were excellent. Our waiter provided some good suggestions on the various appetizers and entrees. We'll definitely be back!

    I had the duck and my wife had the steak frites, and both dishes we perfectly crafted. The waiter was able to recommend an amazing red wine (I think it is named "Pessimist") that was very reasonably priced for the high quality, and the pre-dinner cocktails were also perfectly prepared. The chocolate dessert was a great ending to it all - also, perfect! We sat in the indoor front area which was very nice since it didn't get too loud to properly converse.

    We were recommended to Smoking Goat. We looked at the menu before making reservations. We loved the menu especially that some of ingredients are from Point Reyes, Northern California. We ordered the crispy Spanish octopus, poached pear salad and the duck liver pate to share. We all loved the shared plates. We tried the steak frites, duroc chops, wild mushroom linguini and the salmon. Each dish had it's highlight of flavors. The location is near by our place.

    Overall we enjoyed our time. We had a reservation for 6:45 and were not seated until 7:10, which isn’t horrible as I understand things were busy but still I expected to not have to wait 25 minutes on the curb. Once we were seated our server Daniel was very prompt and helpful. The food was good but not great. Ambience was quite nice. Good experience but the wait at beginning dimmed the experience.

    This dinner happened during restaurant week so there was more to enjoy for a smaller price. The new staff is very attentive and well trained to answer any questions about the drink and food options. Everything is made in house and all dishes can be modified for allergy or diet restrictions. The salads are refreshing, the escargots dish was well seasoned and flavorful for a first time trying this dish stateside. The salmon entree with spinach, lentils, and parsnip puree was cooked perfectly well. The lentils had the perfect texture and the spinach was also well seasoned. The classic goat cheese cheesecake dessert was the surprise of the evening with its airy texture and fresh strawberries.

    I have experienced four Restaurant Week meals over the years. Only the Eddie V’s special was outstanding. Two meals were noteworthy in a negative way: One consisted of a large plate of kelp noodles (🤢) and another served tainted oysters, which sent my son to the emergency room (🤮). The dinner at Smoking Goat was tasty but not outstanding. The French onion soup was the best I’ve had in SD but I am still searching. The salmon had a lovely sauce but was a bit too dry; the puy lentils were a nice addition. The pork chop had a red piquant sauce that caused my son to say my sauce was better. I had a bite of duck, which was rubbery. It was the second duck entré as the first was sent back for being cold. On a positive note, the service was excellent, as were the desserts - flourless chocolate cake and crème caramel. The wine was inoffensive. I will try this restaurant again, something I cannot say about the kelp noodle lunch nor the oyster place.

    The escargot was outstanding. Steak frites- fine but not fabulous. Mushroom linguini was awful. Tasted off, seasoning was off, and it was thick and gloopy. Would not recommend. Chef’s table was fabulous. Would highly recommend sitting there. Service, ambience were great. Food was not as good as it has been in the past.
