The Soca Kitchen
Amazing dinner as always!! Delicious menu and love their Tempranillo!
Wonderful dinner. Excellent service.
Loved the decor.. very impressed by the menu. Awesome concept!
A fantastic date night place.
This restaurant has a good ambiance and pleasing decor with excellent service, but unfortunately falls into the pretentiously-overpriced category, especially for Ottawa. As a family of four, we ate a about 1.5 tapas each, with two sodas ($9), two glasses of wine ($26!) and a single ($14!) dessert and the bill was $226, not including a tip. That was -quite plainly- an entirely overpriced dining experience. I regret not having consulted the menu online before-hand.
Was very excited to try out Soca. It's very intimate and charming.
We weren't sure what to order at first, but settled on the seafood platter and bread. Delicious but not outstanding. The only thing setting them a part from the rest would be the ceviche which I really enjoyed. Our server was nice but not overly friendly. Sort of felt like we were wasting his time. Although he did recommend a lovely bottle of red which we thoroughly enjoyed. We ended with the chef's charcuterie plate. Asked if it's possible to have it without the pate but the server immediately went on defence saying how they weren't able to suggest anything to the chef. Weird, but ok.
Overall, it was a lovely evening out. Perhaps if we had ordered something like the enchiladas or duck hearts, we'd have been more impressed. But it was still delicious. Just not mind blowing like we were hoping for.
Amazing dinner with my hubby! Flavourful food and great Spanish wine, service was delightful as always
Brunch is so unique a delicious in this place! The restaurant was packed definitely recommend making a reso.
It's like being in the comfort of a good friend's home. Warm and relaxing with a outstanding food
Enjoyed the first visit to Soca Kitchen.
Needed more lighting at the table we were at. Had trouble reading the menu and seeing how our food actually looked.
Lovely early dinner, we snagged a cosy table at the back, very quiet until the evening rush came in but not uncomfortable, it was a lively vibe on a Thursday evening. Loved the larger tapas options (we had the whole fried fish, delicious but not de-boned, we had to be cautious! Would recommend a warning from the server, 'cause we are ok with working a little, but would like the heads up), the cauliflower steak and tacos were lovely and unique, very filling portions. The wine service was limited to pouring the wine for a taste, then into the decanter. After that, we were on self-serve (again, not a problem, but a little odd in a small place such as yours). The decanter was impressive. Finally, we never felt rushed or ignored, and I'll admit we lingered longer than expected at the end of the meal.
Bday Very nice ambiance and great tasty food
The food was good.... one of our eggs was under done but the server is so full of attitude, we didn’t want to deal with him.
I told him the coffee was cold ... this got his back up. He gave me attitude the rest of the meal.
The problem with the restaurant is him. We’ve been a handful of times... he’s always got attitude. Likely won’t got back. I’ll go where I’m not given attitude when I point out and error.
And it’s time for non dairy creamers. Vegan people like non dairy creamers.
Such an amazing place. Highly recommend for any occasion.
The calamari and octopus lacked flavour. Our table was located upstairs and the room was rather on the cold side. We didn't get our coffee until we were well done our desserts. And the cream and sugar came in a brown paper bag with a popsicle stick for stirring the coffee; not even a real spoon was given. Overall, the food was overpriced.
$15 brunch special to celebrate their 5 year anniversary is not such a great deal when it does not include any beverage... especially when regular coffee is $4.50!?!
I absolutely love this restaurant and visit every time I get a chance! Service is always super friendly and knowledgeable, food outstanding!
I have been to Soca many times but never for brunch despite all the good comments from friends and family! Brunch was so good! I had the breakfast tacos and my boyfriend had the cauliflower and eggs (all time favourite in the dinner version). Cappuccinos were really good and of course the mimosas
Went to Socca Kitchen for the first time last Wednesday. Delicious food at a good price. We had the 'blind 'tapas' which was 2 tapas and a glass of wine for 35.00. The tapas was determined by the chef so no need to order. My husband and I shared two orders so 4 tapas and tempranillo wine. Absolutely delicious-plenty of food for the two of us. Great sauces and garnishes beautifully presented. We ate tapas in Spain and the dishes at Socaa Kitchen were a bit larger by comparison-a bit more like small plates. Such tasty and interesting food. The dessert confused us so we had to clarify with the waitress. Dulce du leche cheesecake was actually mousse. Tasty but confusing-loose the word cheesecake on the menu and you are good to go. Also add one chocolate option to the dessert menu- please and thank you. Great restaurant-we will definitely return.
I was sooo looking forward to dining at this restaurant but would not go back. Brought my son for his Birthday. Appetizer was good (Sourdough bread w/tomatoes, cheese, ham). Ambiance was nice. The tapas were disappointing. Steak tapa was cold. Churros were ordinary with Nutella! Really! The service was ok but should be exceptional for this price range. Too expensive for what you get.
Had a lovely anniversary dinner at Soca. The food is interesting and delicious!
The cocktails and the tapas are just wonderful, tasteful, delicious and unusual. To be discovered!
Can't wait to return this summer. The wheat beer was excellent and good for food pairing. Excellent table service.
Great place to take a date. I would go here again for sure!
The food tasted very good and service although acceptable was not the best. The major drawback we found was the prices which makes us not wanting to go back and I don't know too many people who would spend over $150 for two people for some tapas so I won't recommend them to my friends.
Great service, the food was good but not outstanding. We ordered three tapas to share. I ordered an old fashioned and it was really really good though!
Quaint restaurant with great food. We went for brunch and enjoyed all of the dishes we ordered.
Had an amazing time for my moms birthday; the food and service was fantastic and the overall experience was one for the books. The staff had great knowledge on the menu and how much of everything we would need for a family style dinner for 5. The sea food tower was good, but the whole lobster left something to be desired in terms of flavour; a sea food tower else where you get more variety and better bang for your buck. The chefs plate was fantastic and was a great sharing piece for the whole family. Would definitely go again and recommend this to anyone who wants a unique Spanish, dining experience.
Wonderful service! The tapas are delicious. I recommend the patatas bravas and the enchiladas. Their sourdough bread was so fresh! Restaurant is small and cozy and very well decorated. Easy to get reservations even during busy times.
Great food! Staff was nice. Great place for date night!
The best tacos we have ever had, and the pate on the charcuterie board was another level of wow! Now we know why Soca was winner of runner-up for Ottawa’s top chef at the Canadian Culinary Championships.
The ambience was nice but the restaurant was at times too loud to hear the conversation of my partner. The clam tacos, and cactus tacos were exceptional, however the other dishes (potatoes, grilled cauliflower, and steak) lacked flavour in my opinion. My partner ordered a second beer which never arrived from the server who took our order despite several attempts to flag her down. We asked a nearby server for the beer instead. Overall the restaurant was fine, but we will not go back to dine.
I admire the creativity that went into every dish. But, perhaps my expectations were high given such a creative menu. Unfortunately, the flavours just didn't come together well for me. I didn't like the cassava with maple and parmesan nor the enchiladas with tapenade. Although, I recognize this is personal preference; the flavors did not contrast well. The cassava (yuka) was also was over cooked. The fresh sourdough bread and the expresso where the two tastiest thing I tried. The pork tacos were also very good, but not amazing. The orange pork was lost on me. The service was a bit slow; the waitress appeared only to bring out tapas. We asked if we could stagger the tapas yet things came out too close together, so some of the food got cold.
This was our first time at this restaurant. We were warmly greeted and presented with the menu and explained the tapas options. We had pre-dinner drinks and despite asking to wait until our drinks were finished before bringing the food, two plates were served mid-way. We enjoyed the enchiladas and grilled calamar (although we didn’t see any grill marks). We had a different server for the next dishes and he seemed offended when we asked for clean plates for the next course. We both found the lomito steak chewy and sinewy. The disappointment was the charred cauliflower steak which lacked any flavours and certainly didn’t warrant in any way the $24 price tag. Overall a moderate experience and in our opinion over priced. Not on our return or recommendation list.
I would recommend depending the type of food you'd want to eat. Personally thought the service was ok , but it seemed liked ''hurry get out of here''.... being asked way to often if we were finished, asked us at least 4 times re desert. It was disturbing. It is a clean resto though, and nice atmosphere. And as for the ladies night , we thought it would have been more of a networking evening .
Fabulous meal and excellent service! Best tapas in Ottawa and lots of variety with rich and delicious flavour. Highly recommend!
Complete homerun in all levels. If you haven’t tried Soca Kitchen, then you should.
WOW- flavours, presentation, dichotomy, surprises, breadth of experience. Use any or all of these words to describe Soca. If it hadn’t been rated so highly by Trip Advisor we would not have tried it. It is truly a GEM and demands an honored position in Ottawa’s fine restaurants. Highly recommended.
We had a very enjoyable meal. Especially liked the yucca chips and the pork tacos.
My second visit and went straight to the main dish: lomito steak... melted in my mouth! Very mild spice, which I love. Then we went “backwards” and ordered appetizers: olives and chicken liver pate, both of which were divine. Nice to end with some saltiness. I had the poached pear, which was a little mediocre after eating such fantastic tapas. But will return for another feast. This hidden gem on Holland is incredible!
