Server was awesome.
Did not honor Oakland Restaurant Week advertised menu. Refused to make substitutions on special pizzas when this was never a problem in the past. Jalapeños were added to pizza after twice requesting none! Took 20 mins for replacement pizza to arrive & all other parties had completed their meals.
Really loved the vibe that this place captures. It felt cool and inviting. We had the Chicken Pesto Pizza and it was hella good.
We ordered the "Little Star" and a vegan pizza. Both were great! The ingredients were fresh and their crust is tastier than the other places with stuffed pizza. The Star is a very pleasant place to hang. Often it's pretty loud but not this time. We'll always go back!
Great restaurant week lunch deal! Love this place; always reliably good.
We were there for the Oakland Restaurant Week. Salad and a personal pizza for $10. Great value for the food but the service was bad. The waiter never once checked to see if everything was ok and it took forever to get his attention to get the check.
We did oakland week specials. Food was plentiful and excellent. Would recommend
Star never disappoints. Great spot, great pizza. :-) Perfect spot before a movie at the Grand Lake.
Very accommodating 7 adults and two young children. Service was efficient.
the spicy sausage pizza is no joke; none of us could quite take it! wish the server had thought to warn us (we had 80 year olds with us), and we know that the Alameda Star is super cacophonous (former bank, not great acoustics) but otherwise it's still a favorite spot. Usually delicious and always fun.
Good value for the price.
Good competition for Zachary’s.
We've been to the Star a few times, and they never disappoint. Yummy salads and pizzas, flat and deep dish, red sauce and alternatives, meat and veggies. The pear, gorgonzola and arugula special pizza was especially good this time.
Fun neighborhood spot with amazing pizza and salads. LOVE their take on the wedge, best I've had. Their deep dish pizzas rival any I've had here or in Chicago - perfect crust and not too heavy.
We were seated right away in the back next to a wall that needed cleaning. The waiter took his time coming over. We had to ask his name. Once we ordered our food, he came by one time to see if things were ok. The appetizers weren’t hot...they were luke warm. My previous visits were much better.
This is our go-to pizza restaurant in Oakland. It's good pizza, and the appetizers are equally good. We usually have the wings, a salad and broccolini, all of which are solid. Service is generally attentive. I only give it a 3 because it's a pizza place. If you want a 4 or 5, go to a Michelin-rated place.
Great food and ambiance. Perfect spot to hang, watch the game and enjoy delish pizza.
Always a good meal with great service. This is our very favorite Oakland cafe.
Great Pizza.. good friendly neighborhood restaurant
Had a wonderful time and they are very accommodating. I threw a last minute surprise bday party for my kid and it was amazing! We will be back!!!
As always, The Star was great. Love the food, the service, and the atmosphere.
What a great venue. Perfect neighborhood spot with great food and drinks. Always go back to this spot.
I recently gave The Star a negative review relative to its sister restaurant, Little Star on Solano Ave in Albany. My visit to The Star last week showed that they have upped their game and service and pizza offerings were very good. I especially note the improved service and attitude of servers. The Star salads still need some work however and they lack the freshness one expects in restaurants.
This is my go-to, can’t-fail neighborhood place. The pizzas are great, especially the deep dish crusts. They are crunchy yet melt in your mouth when you bite into them. Lots of options for vegetarians. I especially love the Little Star pizza, with added roasted garlic. Salads are delicious and use fresh ingredients. One is large enough to share with one or two other diners. The beer selection has something for everyone. I especially love the Westphallia red.
Great bar! This place has become our favorite pizza restaurant... we like it more than Zachary’s and Patxi’s!
Great pizza, has parking (a major convenience in that area), nice and clean restaurant and did I mention they have great pizza?
Had to ask waiter several times for something, beer selection needs work (not everyone is a microbrew kind of person)
First time, and will be going back again soon! Still craving the amazing pizza!! Service great, cocktails great!
The Star is one of our favorite places when we are visiting Oakland. On this visit, the kitchen made a mistake with our order, so our pizza took longer than usual. Our waiter was very apologetic and offered us a free appetizer of our choice for the inconvenience which was not expected but very much appreciated.
Waitress went on break after taking our order and forgot about one of our pizzas.
Star was always my "go-to" pizza place. LOVED THE TILDEN. But, somewhere along the line (last 6 months...plus) the crust has changed. The Tilden is no longer on the menu, though orderable, as how to make it is on the wall in the kitchen...
It's not the same, i have ordered other pizzas, the vegetarian, the california, and the tilden several times now. It's different and is just an average pizza now. Not one to "die for"... My friend attributes this to the crust being different. i don't know, all i know is that i don't want another bite. Sad to have lost my
favorite pizza place.
i'd like to add that the staff has fallen off also. They don't serve you the first piece any more and when there is a party in the back it is so noisy you can't talk or think...
The only problem I had was the lack of communication between Customer sc and the actual establishment... I was question about a no-show whereas I had been seated for 30+ minutes. The line of communication should be clear so potential accusations wont happen.
They forgot our appetizers, other than that super nice
Girlfriend just loved to the US and she was craving deep-dish. There’s no place better than the Star.
It's a good solid restaurant with attentive staff. The thin crust pizza was tasty, the crust is super thin, and it's quite crisp. It actually reheats really well also, as we had leftovers. The bar staff was super nice, and made a great wine recommendation, their service was pretty quick given how busy the restaurant was. The host and the waiter were both excellent, so service generally is on point. The bar was super sticky and had food on it when I sat down, I had to clean it myself, which kind of grossed me out, but it WAS busy. The noise level was quite high, so if you LIKE that, or don't mind it, you'll be ok, but we found it to be tough to relax. We agreed that we might get takeout vs dine in, in order to avoid the noise, but I like a different place better for my takeout, which is why I wouldn't recommend it. If you're OK with a loud place, or you're noisy and prefer NOT to get side-eye, then this place is totally worth a shot. It's a nice looking place, and they have a parking lot for their guests as a bonus.
This is a good but basic pizza restaurant. Service is generally attentive, and tonight was no exception. Food is consistently good. We ordered salad, broccolini, wings and pizza.
Pizza & service were great. Just over priced!
We had a party of 14, and the service was excellent! We over-ordered the quantity of pizza, as the server suggested that one person could eat a small. Not the case. A small can easily feed at least 2 people. The deep dish was really yummy.
The sausage sandwich was soooo good. The bread it came on was really fresh and the marinara sauce was delicious. My colleague’s client ordered the meatball sandwich and she was from back East like me (so we know meatballs) and she said it was phenomenal! Great service and location. Highly recommend.
Deep dish pizza was amazing as usual.
We had a group of 9 for dinner before going to the Grand Lake Theatre to see a movie and they did a great job getting us served quickly. The pizza was delsih!! The salads were plentiful.
I love The Star and go there often but this meal was disappointing. The salads were fine, but the lettuce didn’t seem as fresh as usual. And we asked them to turn down the music (it was 1 pm on a Tuesday and there weren’t a lot of people there) and the wait person basically said that they wouldn’t turn it down. That was surprising and disappointing since I was with an older friend who is quite hard of hearing and I selected The Star because I thought it would be quieter than most spots especially at lunch.
