The Whaling Station Steakhouse
Amazing Food! Great environment!!!
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Many choices on steak. Which is nice since seafood is very dominant in Monterey.
Awesome dinner. Our server, Tina(?), was splendid. Very busy but didn't make us feel rushed. Great Beef Wellington and ribeye. Fun atmosphere.
If you are looking for the best steak and great customer service- you need to come to the Whaling Station!!!! We were greeted as soon as we came in. We had a big party and they were able to seat us in less than 10 minutes. The staff was awesome! The food was incredible! The service was top of the line! It was my fathers birthday and without us saying a word, the staff brought out a birthday cheesecake with a candle and even sang Happy Birthday. That was the cherry on top of our night. Thank you for making this birthday a memorable night.
The food was phenomenal. I got the buttery lobster and my boyfriend had the surf and turf. Both were absolutely delicious. The only thing we did notice was a lack of service from our server as he, and everyone else, seemed incredibly busy. Not much a server can do about that. But the food was great. I’d definitely go back and recommend.
Delicous food i come here for my NY Steak twice Bake potato once a month, delicious omg did i mention their onion rings delicious. Eating here you can never go wrong. Great service delicious food..
Steaks were fatty and served cold. Had to send back for warming. Quality has decreased over the last few years. May not try again.
Food was great and service was great .Everything was amazing !!!!
We had been hoping to try the steaks here for quite some time and we were not disappointed! Our server Soquel was happy to educate us on the different cuts of meat and their different textures and qualities. After we made our decision the food arrived promptly and perfectly cooked. My petit filet mignon was rare and tender. My husband’s Kansas City cut NY was the perfect medium for him. All in all a fabulous meal and a lovely date night. Expensive but clearly supreme quality.
They really need to update their system to allow for separate checks.
Best porterhouse I’ve had!
Ordered ribeye and it was a very bad taste and cut. Have ordered Ribeyes many times, but not good
Excellent service and food. We had the beef Wellington. It was perfect...sooo tender. Had a Pavlova for desert which was nothing short of Heaven! The only high end restaurant I’ve been to that makes them and it was delicious! Highly recommend. Will come back the next time we’re in Monterey.
Delicious, great presentation, very good variety .
Service was excellent
I am always so impressed every time I enter the Whaling Station. Freddie is always there to great me and as I look out over his beautiful arranged dinning and bar area I am always so impressed. Not a thing out of place, not a spot on any of the glasses , it is a sight to behold!!
The best on the Monterey Peninsula!!!!
Amazing steaks, great drinks, friendly staff. I always enjoy a delicious meal every time I go to the Whaling Station.
My wife and I agreed that this was absolutely the best dining experience we have ever had. We were seated within minutes of arriving for our reservation and from there on the night did not disappoint. The service was excellent and the food was beyond delicious. This maybe, correction, this was definitely the best meal I have ever experienced. My only regret is that I didn’t have room for desert.
Everything from the host, to the ambiance, to the wait staff, to the food. Everything was wonderful! It was a great restaurant to spend our Valentine's evening.
Carl, our waiter was the best, 2nd to none. Food was excellent.
Whaling Station is AMAZING! We’ve been going there for years & we love the food, the Staff, everything!
I have been going to the Whaling Station for almost 30 years. I love this place.
Steak was over cooked. Beef Wellington was soggy. Ordered a cocktail and was charged extra for the ice. Won't be back.
Went here for 35th wedding anniversary and the food was outstanding come I had the lobster tail my wife had filet mignon, portions were plenty, the place was packed we had a reservation and were seated promptly on time. Shout out to Carl who served us immediately and was on the ball all night. A little pricey but was worth it. It was loud but everyone was feasting on the delicious food, great selection of steaks, seafood, wine. We will definitely be back.
As long as this establishment has been located in Monterey it has been a staple in the restaurant scene. We met up with a waiter that we recognized from the 1980's that is still working there and for good reason. Good food and service. It's not a place to go to once a week as the prices are up there but for a special occasion it's fine.
Great food and service as usual. Very attentive to us.
Apprehensive 2nd visit, this place is the worst!! Not only did they serve us BROWN ahi tuna, but also had the nerve to say "it turns brown when seared". That is just insulting to lie and assume I don't know what color ahi is!! I owned a sushi bar for years and personally did all the fish purchasing,,, that tuna would have made someone SICK!! Also the pancetta wrapped scallops were served with the pancetta RAW!! The health department should shut this place down! This place is obviously running on fumes of a past history when it was better. My last visit there was for prime rib hearing they had the best in town, it was over well done, totally as brown as thier tuna. I think the chef must be colorblind and doesn't know when something is red or pink, because to continue serving brown meat and seafood is just criminal!!
Even the host insulted our culinary intelligence to try to pass off that tuna saying it's supposed to be brown. I have never been more offended or disgusted by a 'fine' dining establishment. close this place down! They have no right serving food to the public!!
Quite possibly the worst dining experience ever! Such a let-down! Our Silver Oak wine that was listed at $144 turned out to be $160 on the check. I have absolutely nothing good to say about this DUMP! Avoid at all costs... Especially when those cost was a $400 check and the worst quality food ever!!
Our server was awesome(amy? from Maine), made sure we tipped well feeling sorry for her having to serve such HORRIBLE FOOD.. Host was a complete D-bag!!!
We were down in Monterey attending the AT&T PGA golf tournament. Dining at the Whaling Station was a wonderful celebration of food and wine, almost a continuation of the festive times on the course at Pebble. The service was as good as the food and wine. We will definitely return once we are back in Monterey.
The Whaling Station Steakhouse is a very friendly restaurant from the hostess, manager and waiters they are always there to please. The steaks are the best and the atmosphere is pleasant as well. I highly recommend this Cannery Row Restaurant.
The oysters Rockefeller and prime rib egg roll were very yummy. The beef Wellington was buttery and tender. The abalone texture was just right. It would have been better if the panko was not burned and more sauce was provided.
It was quite loud in the restaurant and we had a hard time hearing each other speaking in our normal voices sitting directly across from each other
Overall the experience was good and a great stop in Monterey.
Excellent service and a great meal
The service was top notch, granted it was a slow night for them. However, our server went out of her way to make sure we enjoyed everything we ate. It was a great night met with the service desired.
It was my husband’s 70th birthday. The meal was outstanding! Our service was outstanding and friendly. It was a great experience, we will be back!
One of the best steaks I’ve ever had. (And I eat a lot of steak). The food and the service were excellent!
The Whaling Station is our go-to place for special occasions. We went there Friday night for our wedding anniversary, and we were treated like royalty. The food is fantastic -- my streak was as good as you'd expect from a fine chop house, and my wife's chicken and salad was perfect as well -- and the service is always attentive without being overbearing. Freddy, the host, hooked us up with free appetizer and desert, which was really great. I recommend the Whaling Station to both locals and visitors looking for a great meal with friendly, attentive service.
The waitress was amazing and made our honeymoon and my husband's birthday very special.
My husband and I went with our daughter and her boyfriend on a Thursday evening. We had drinks and appetizers before our meal. We each had a different beef dinner. Afterwards, we had dessert and coffee. Everything was just great - the service, food and we love coming to eat at The Whaling Station.
Most importantly, the food was great. We had the porterhouse for 2, medium rare, and it was great. The prices were right in line with any other mid-high end steakhouse. The server was very knowledgeable and helpful but wasn’t overbearing. He let us eat and came by only once in a while. I would highly recommend the Whaling Station to anyone looking for a nice steak dinner in the midst of all the Monterey seafood.
The ambiance was wonderful nice bar and welcoming staff . The staff was attentive and the appetizers were well cooked but when the steaks came we were a little disappointed they were flavorless and just felt like it needed some kind of sauce or butter to give it some flavor . Hopefully this was an off night .
I e had dinner at the whaling station for special occasions over the last twenty years.
This last dinner lacked in something. The food was good but not excellent. The service was good but not excellent. I always loved coming there for dinner.
Cocktails were very good
