I don’t feel I am able to give a good review as I left the pub early and was sick after eating scampi. I rang the pub up to explain and the lady who answered the phone said the manager would be in in the morning and she would pass the message on , but no one rang me to even ask if I was ok.
We visited this pub many times before and always received a warm friendly welcome and the food and service were excellent!
However, Its seems this place now, with new management struggles with a negative review, and decides to announce on trip advisor you are not welcome anymore comfortingly I am not the only one....it seems if you the management don't agree they report or ban you.
Claims were made about our behaviour to a member of staff, my partner spoke to the aspiring manager at the end of the bar out of ear shot, not in front of other customers and I have 4 witnesses to this.
The aspiring manager was left on her own to deal with not only my complaints but from several other visitors. When we asked for a manager they were not around, but quick to check trip advisor.
The food was cold on arrival after an hours wait and we were told several times before it was coming!
I think the manager needs to accept bad reviews and maybe put it right?
I'm not welcome any more but I never had any intention of returning!
Food was good, gravy for Sunday roast was excellent, good amount, Yorkshire puds disappointing. Waiter polite, friendly and attentive.
It was a quiet lunchtime but we had poor service with indifferent food. The staff after bringing the menu did not even bother to come over to take our order for deserts or coffees. We will not go again.
The Windmill keeps up its standards very well. Although the menu is a little limited, the food is of a good standard, and the service wait was acceptable. The price of wine by the glass was a lot lower than many pub restaurants I have been to.
Don't like being asked 3 times by 3 different waitresses is the food ok
Once is enough !!!!
Lovely food, brilliant service. Will visit again soon
Good food , friendly greeting and waiting staff but service from the kitchen very slow despite there being few customers dining.
First time that we've been since the new owners took over, has been refreshed through out, lovely meal reasonably priced, plenty of staff to meet your needs, highly recommended
We meet here quite frequently and even though it has changed hands the staff and food is still as good. We would prefer our veg to be served separately like it used to be so you can help yourself and get as much or little as you want. The veg was lovely but hadn't been drained fully so there was a pool of water on our plate, but it didn't spoil anything else on the plate. Pudding was fab! Will be back soon!
Had a family meal the welcome was very friendly, the room was warm bright and comfortable, the staff where excellant very helpful and polite, food was cooked lovely served in a appetising way, and tasted great, great choice so would suit all tastes would recommend you come and try the food, will diefinately come again, the toilets where spotless and smelt lovely,
All staff where very helpfull ,the food was very good ,our only problem was the wait for the meal to be served of nearly 45 mins for our main meal then we ordered a sweet and again waited over half an hour ,when my husband went to ask where the sweets where ,we found that the waiter that had taken our order had gone on a break and not given the order in so I was very angry but yes we might give it one more go .
If was our first time, we will definitely be returning
I felt that since visiting the Windmill th enfood isn't as good as previous times.
Good food and they even did a prawn salad for my friend which is not on the menu. It was very quiet but we had great service and will be back.
Great food and great service. Went on Thursday lunchtime and the pub was very quiet, which was good as my Dad has hearing problems. We had a lovely seat in the window and waitresses were helpful and knowledgeable of the menu. Waiting time was as you would expect (about 20 minutes), and was really good when it arrived. All 5 people in my party were happy with the food. Would return again.
Great meal! Food was excellent and there was a good selection to choose from. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff where always smiley and polite. Would highly recommend!
great food, service very good, staff excellent, great value.
Good menu for a party of seven, including two vegetarians. .. of a wide range of ages.
Good choice on the menu for all - we had a wide range of dishes & everyone was very happy with their choice. All excellent.
Husband had bangers and mash, he said the sausages were up there with the best. I had meat pie, the met was very tender, no fat and very tasty, only criticism the edge of the crust was a bit hard. Would go again.
Waited a long time for meal
Asked for rare-medium steaks...came over cooked
Change of ownership and staff...gone down with quality and up with prices.
A wide choice of dishes on the menu - I chose Gammon which was well cooked and a good portion size. It came with mushrooms, tomatoes & 2 fried eggs which were homemade and delicious, a pot of garden peas of which some were fine and some were like bullets, and disappointingly, oven chips and non-homemade soggy onion rings. No one came to clear our plates or take a dessert order so we ordered at the bar. They brought pudding before the main course pots had been cleared and due to the tiny table we had to do a juggling act to accept these. Atmosphere not helped by a large group at the next table with a screaming infant. The place was largely empty as we ate early so it would have been courteous not to put us next to a large group. We've usually had good meals there but slightly disappointing this time.
Disappointed - We are regular visitors to the Windmill however we visited on Mothering Sunday for a Mothers Day tea and were really disappointed. They were majorly understaffed, there were piles and piles of empty glasses on the bar and they only offered a limited menu where a number of dishes had sold out - including Sunday roast! The phone was ringing and ringing and nobody had the time to answer it. The wait for food was well over 40 minutes (for starters) which we wouldn't have minded if the pub was full, but it wasn't, it wasn't even half full. There appeared to be only 2 waiting staff working and one on the bar so at times the queue at the bar was almost to the door. We had to request more chips as what was brought was no where near enough for 5 adults.....overall we were very disappointed. I hope they can get back up to their normal standard before the regulars decide to go elsewhere.
On line booking made life very easy . Staff helpful and jolly . Generous portions great value
This is a very good quality pub. Nothing fancy but really nice food - the haddock i had could have fed a family - and very pleasant and efficient staff. It was very busy as well when i went, a good sign for a restaurant, but service was brisk without rushing you. Very recommended.
The Windmill was very accommodating considering that they did not have any record of the booking made with Open Table!
Excellent as always, although very cold inside on the night we visited.
Great food, service and value. Met with friends after Christmas - really enjoyed good wholesome well cooked food
Found a hair in the main course, didn't complain. Found a hair in the sweet ( blonde and im very dark!) So quietly told a member of staff. He took it away to kitchen and left me standing at the bar. Eventually I went back to my table thinking someone would come across. No..
The manager had been around all evening but suddenly disappeared at this point. I went back to bar and asked what they intended to do. I got my money back.
Such a shame the manager couldn't manage an apology.
I didn't make a fuss as these things happen (not usually twice) but an apology goes a long way.
We all were disappointed as the pastry was burnt and hard and the burger was cold.
We will not be going back.
Had such a great experience that I suggest if you are thinking of this venue GO AHEAD!
You will glad you did.
Food was fine but disappointed with the atmosphere. I would have expected more people to have been there especially as it was so close to Xmas.
Food and service good , the place was a bit cold depending on where you were seated. Disable car park places (2) are at the opposite side of the entrance door which is poorly planned
The service, food and overall feel of the place was excellent. The meals were hot and the veg was derved seperate, so yopu can get what you want.
I had Sunday lunch and the only thing missing were home made yorkshire puddings even though the veg was all fresh.
Would definately recommend.
We booked online for my birthday meal after my partner had been here a few months back and had a good meal.
When we arrived on Sunday 20th we asked straight away for a jug of boiling water to heat my babies milk up in as he was crying and desperate for a feed. We ended up having to ask another 4 times before someone finally brought it out! But they brought out warm tap water! We had to send it back and finally got boiling water 40 minutes later! Service was naff, all kids under 20 who didn't give a toss. No personality or conversation skills! The lasagne had about a block of cheese on and my food garlic chicken with mushrooms gave me a bad stomach! Won't be returning!
Excellent food good value excellent service good variety to choose from.
Lovely relaxing time not rushed nothing seemed to be a problem all of us had a different meal and not one complaint would recommend to all
Food was late arriving although table pre booked. Food was almost cold. Much better places to eat locally. No one seemed bothered the meal was poor.
We were disappointed on arrival as our table of six was situated whereby other guests were constantly squeezing by. In fact we asked to move as there were two people sat by the bar and this left no room for people to get by when seated. In our opinion this table was put there to make more money.
The selection of veg for a table of six was one silver dish of half red cabbage and half peas. No other veg were brought out or offered.
Our second table was situated right next to the mens toilet - again this table should not have been placed so near to this facility.
This is our first visit in many years, however in earlier years we used to frequent regularly. We will not be returning.
it was very easy to book a table online. the restaurant was very comfortable and cosy. a good selection of different types of food on the menu. the staff were very pleasant and efficient and we did nt have to wait too long for our meal. food was delicious. we will definitely eat here again.
Good food, nice decor and fittings. Friendly and helpful staff.
