Gave this restaurant a chance despite its 3.4 rating and figured the view would be nice. Does not value customer requests on a personal special occasion. Told to come back the following week for them to accommodate the request. Came February 15th which is not even Valentine’s Day anymore but they had a Valentine’s menu which we understood. Our anniversary date is very important and requested for a desert with a written “Happy Anniversary” to make my partner’s day more special. I was not asking for it to be free, I do not care if I had to pay more than the value. we did not appreciate the sarcasm one of the workers had responded to us. “If you want a bird, we’ll get you a bird. But come next week”. Next week is no longer our anniversary. There is a reason why our reservation was specifically on 15th. If we knew this will not be accommodated, we would have chosen a different restaurant who valued customers better.
Looks great when your waiting for your seat but when you get to go in and have your appetizers you’ll consider just going to somewhere else.
Great service and hospitality
Great View, Great Service, Bring Cushions for the stylish chairs.
Everything but the deserts were bland. Portions were beyond stingy. For example, my entre' was the TOULA surf and turf which consisted of a beef tenderloin, shrimp, and vegetables. What arrived was two small pieces of shrimp on top of my beef tenderloin, which was unevenly cooked. For my vegetables I received ONE brussel sprout cut in half, half a carrot which was then cut in half, and I believe a rapini which was soggy and stringy. The vegetables were clearly steamed and just dropped in the plate, no seasoning whatsoever. Oddly enough I was not asked how I would like my beef done, nor did they offer black pepper after bringing it to the table.
Desert consisted of a trio of mini deserts which I kid you not were CUT IN HALF, one half was served to one person, the other half to another. They were micro deserts, or samples at this point. The fruit on the plate of desert consisted of A QUARTER of a strawberry, and one whole blackberry.
And last but not least, we were offered an option of either sparkling or flat water. We opted for flat, which after two bottles I heard a customer complain about their water and found out they were charging $7 a bottle (which normally cost $10 from what the server told me), and they were not informing anyone of this until the bill arrived. They removed it from the bill after I brought up how disappointing that was.
The list goes on, all wait staff (at least in our section) had pungent B.O. , the table/seating layout was cramped, linen and table settings were sloppy. The only redeeming quality here is the view, and honesty there are many places in Toronto with a view that will give you way more for your money.
Bottom line, just focusing on the food alone TOULA is very overpriced for the quality of food they serve. Everything was bland, some items were clearly not fresh and frozen.
Our bill was cheap at $150, which is sad considering what we experienced.
Rude server with attitude that ruined the whole meal
Really mediocre and uninteresting food. Server was nice, but food was served by her support staff who were rushed and unfriendly.
Amazing service and delicious food and drinks.
Beautiful ambiance. Lovely food. Excellent service. Loved winterlicious menu!
the waiters were kind and not experienced.
the view was nice as usual.
I had left tip but the same waitress didn't pick up the bill. just personal preference.
The food was subpar. I found hair in my lamb chops. The view was nice but I was expecting much better food.
I like the dessert part and main of the 3 course menu
But for the appetizer I did not like it
But overall it was a nice view at the 38th floor of the Hotel
And very family friendly , good for socials
I am very satisfied with the kitchen staff and their prompt preparation of our meals. the food was wonderful and delicious. portions were more than enough.
It started out well enough, but I was not impressed with the service. Firstly, the manager came to our table four or five times prior to our main course, interrupting our conversation to ask if we needed anything. There is a certain level of service that is appreciated, but he was trying too hard and I did not appreciate his need to interrupt. Good servers can tend to the table without announcing their presence.
We were trying to have a good time and the server came by and kept asking "Are you done with that?" and taking away plates at a stellar rate, to which I had to reply, "No, I am not.", fork in hand. Minutes later, the mains came and I wasn't even done with the appetizer. They took it away and that was that.
We had a bottle of sparkling water and a bottle of still water on the table (both of which we paid $7 each for) - absolutely absurd in my opinion - and mid-meal the server came and took away the half-bottle of sparkling water. I had to ask for it back. How rude! and then to put it on the bill - the audacity.
The meal felt rushed overall.
Finally when dessert was done, it took us over ten minutes to get someone's attention and to ask for the bill.
Toula has a lot of potential but the servers and the management on the floor are inexperienced. At that price point, I expect a more well trained professional staff.
The view of the restaurant is super, however the food and its sitting chair is a big disappointed compare to the years back...
Our server was just phenomenal. After telling her my partner had a peanut allergy she was very accommodating and immediately thought ahead. Very thoughtful and would recommend.
Its the first time I had to pay 7 dollars for a jug of water. It would've been nice had they informed you that water isn't free, which is essentially the standard at EVERY restaurant. But maybe the fine dining experience suggests otherwise? I've never had to ask a waitress /waiter for "free water." So you'd imagine my surprise getting the bill. The food was decent. although you're probably paying for the food too. Service was rushed. The winterlicious menu was okay, so I can't comment on their other choices. Their hospitality felt superficial at best; the manager (who took the place of our waitress as it was the waitress's first day) would ask how we were doing but walk away before we could even give a response. Or ignore it outright.
Not sure I'd recommend this place. I don't often fine dining restaurants, but this was by far my worst experience at one.
This place is absolutely incredible. The view is amazing (definitely worth it to ask for a window seat!), and the food is even better.
Underwhelming. Winterlicious reservation. Selected Tiramisu for dessert and was given a tiny sampler plate of three desserts.
We were eating here on my partners ‘ birthday which I indicated in the reservation.
We also ordered from the Winterlicious menu.
The appetizers were ok but the real problem was when the entrees came. I ordered the steak and shrimp with vegetables. The meat and shrimp were very good, however the vegetables were undercooked, hard and not enjoyable.
My partner ordered the tuna steak and the server indicated it would be served rare. When the order came, the tuna was cooked almost fully through and with the majority of the fish being white. When pointed out to the server, she agreed and asked if we wanted something else. We said no the tuna steak but cooked rare as expected. The second dish came out and although it was slightly better, it was very far from being rare and was not at all what was expected. The vegetables with this order were also extremely undercooked to the point that the Brussels sprouts were inedible and debatably raw.
In hindsight by the servers reaction we may not have been the first person to react this way. Hopefully others ordering the tuna steak had a better experience.
When dessert came it was also good. However there was not mention of the birthday or anything special done which is something that would even be expected at a family restaurant.
We were surprised when the bill came and no mention was made in regards to the meal and nothing was comped.
Ironically, ahead of the meal we were excited and even considering doing the Valentines Day special. But after the experience we had we will not be recommending the restaurant to anyone. Especially given the price at its current value.
The winterlicious was not good and I was very disappointed.
I had a dinner on a winterlicious menu. The place is old and the seat between each seat and table is tight. We order a bottle of white wine, the server came with a cloths that comes with red d wine on my bottles. Thats mean the cloths is reuse without washing it. And i also saw they reuse the table cloths without washing it too. The main dish is cold also. Im not recommend this restaurant with this price
Food was delicious, service was good and friendly except when ordering steak, my table was not asked how we would like it to be (E.g. rare / med rare / etc.). The server also gave the wrong tea.
The desserts were dries out. The cream on the tiramisu had the consistency and texture of marshmallow. The ricotta cheesecake was stale. It is clear that it was sitting out for a while. Food was not hot, just a little warm. I had the beef tenderloins and the meat was gray on the outside, not browned enough. Very disappointing.
Had a wonderful dinner, loved the ambiance. Can't wait to go back!
The waiter did not take seriously that my partner was celiac. We asked him to check which menu dishes were gluten free, were told the eggplant starter would be fine, and then saw that it was fully covered in breadcrumbs when it arrived at the table. The view is lovely, but restaurant ambience is lessened by the staff sorting cutlery and tableware directly next to seated tables. The food was lackluster - the vegetables accompanying the cornish hen were not seasoned. As a pro: the panna cotta was incredible.
I would definitely recommend Toula restaurant to my friends. I loved the cured salmon appetizer and the pumpkin sage ravioli.
When you leave a restaurant you want to leave feeling good about the experience. Instead, after dining at Toula, I fell ripped off. I was charged $7 for still water after I ordered tap. They also charged 20% for gratuity which I feel should have been left to my discretion.
Everything was great until we realized they’d charged us $7.00+tax+tip for “still” water. We were asked if we wanted sparkling or still water. We chose “still”. What is still water? Water that comes out of the tap. That’s deceptive. They told us they couldn’t do anything as the transaction was already processed. That’s not true. She eventually came back with $7.00 cash. So deceptive
The food is almost as impressive as the view, which is really nice!
It was fantastic!!! Great service and ambience! Amazing food!!
Outstanding atmosphere, staff and meal. A fabulous evening.
Everyone’s whispering, the lights are off.. it felt like we were in a library. Can’t take pictures of/with the view or you get shushed?! Awkward.
I was extremely disappointed with my first time visit. I wonder who wrote all the good reviews. To think I gave up going to Canoe to come here is absolutely upsetting. My fiancée and I were celebrating our anniversary and for the price we paid the service and food was so disappointing. And the word disappointing is an understatement. When I contacted them I was offered a 25% discount for my next visit, which will be never again. Thank you but no thank you. I don’t believe in second chances. If you can’t do it right the first time, second time around you’re trying too hard and first impressions count.
For the expectation set by the location and price, there were some disappointments. One was the wrong pasta being brought to me twice, and the server did not know what it was. Then the shrimps were over cooked in another meal. The gelato flavour promised was not delivered. However, there was an effort to ask for feedback which was appreciated.
Service was great, food was good, and view is fantastic. The only complaint was that I ordered the seared scallops as the apple on the Prix fix menu and although tasty, it was one, tiny scallop on a dollup of risotto. The menu stated “scallopS”... So, the rack of lamb was nice, but I was still hungry afterwards.
Horrible experience! The food was terrible the service was really bad and for the wine list all wines under $ 100 were not available and the only wine available at $ 95 is a wine that you can find at the lcbo at $ 12. worst experience ever i really don't recommend this place
I should of trusted the reviews online because food was bad, service was bad and sitting was bad. I regret going there on christmas. It ruined my christmas. The asian host was so rude. I reserved a table that is NEXT to the window because I want to enjoy the view. However, they put us to a table not next to the window and the asian host was like, "is this not close to the window enough?" What kind of service is this? So basically I was starring at people eating and people's head through out the whole dinner. Next time if you can't accommodate this when I requested for it. please notify the customer so we dont have to waste our time coming and wasting money here. The table was super squished for us can even eat comfortably. Guess what, Im having a stomache right now. What a christmas! Also, I didnt even want to give them much tips. But they already included the gratuity in the bill.
Very nice to spend Christmas here with friends. The restaurant wasnt busy but we were sat directly next to a large loud family which was a poor choice by the hostess. Service wasn't as attentive as we would have liked we had to flag someone down for every request. Update your ability to split the bill! It's 2019, this isnt a favour to customers it's the norm for big groups that don't all drink, etc. Nice views though and food was great
First time here in years. First off didn't know it wouldn't revolve anymore. And never thought about asking or maybe they would state somewhere. Bit of construction going on as well which made if harder.
Food was amazing. Service was so so. Wasn't crazy busy but seemed like they were rushing us through everything. Didn't get offered coffee till after all was done. Usually goes with dessert. Then sat around and waited for our bill.
Was for Xmas dinner so a little disappointed all in all.
Christmas Dinner 2019. My son and I went to have what was referred to as an Italian Feast, so we were a bit surprised to see a menu that included a choice of appy and main and the dessert was the same for all (mini panna cotta and tiramisu). I chose the scallop on a bed of risotto which was cooked to perfection and delicious. My son chose the pasta fagioli soup which he enjoyed as well. I chose the salmon as my main and again it was cooked to perfection and delicious. My son chose the Cornish hen and really enjoyed his as well. The panna cotta was delicious and and tiramisu was good but a little strong in coffee flavour. My issue is not with the ambience, quality or taste of food or the service, all of which met my expectations. The issue I have is that when I booked the reservation I was under the impression this was an Italian feast so was expecting more courses and more pasta dishes, as I recall the only pasta choice for a main was a squash ravioli. At $60 per person I would have expected more food and more Italian options. That being said, we were satisfied and not hungry when we left. We also felt a bit rushed but understandable since it was Christmas Day and undoubtedly they were trying to keep to a limited amount of time per table to make room for the next guests. All in all we enjoyed ourselves and my main complaint was that it was not as advertised.
