Foto: John Lee.
I’ve had great experiences here in the past, however, this time was not quite as satisfying. Really it came down to poor service due to an overwhelmed staff. First, it took 20+ minutes (with a reservation) to be seated. Then, during the meal there would be very long lulls of nobody checking in with us...for example, we were never offered another drink after our initial order even though we all had empty wine glasses. By the end, I had to walk up to a manager and ask for our check because our server was just taking too long. The food was great as always (other than the runny mashed potatoes), but service fell flat this time.
the server wasn't serving us nice， and we needed to wait like 20 min to pick up our leftover to go boxed food. The receptionist girls treated us very unfriendly & with bad attitude. Therefore I will not go there again in the future.
Outstanding as always. Best popovers ever. Delicious fried chicken. Really good. Going back for dinner before heading home.
Wayfare Tavern's fried chicken is always our SF To Do list. We learned this time that lunch is far less noisy and crowded which allows servers more time and increases the quality of the experience. OpenTable is vital in this busy city and makes dining so easy in this big, busy city.
Hostess is habitually less than friendly but the atmosphere and the fried chicken is always on par. Waiter was ultra service oriented and our business lunch was a success.
The wait for a table was longer than we expected. The staff did I nice job of making us comfortable while we waited. The food was awesome, but we had to wait for dessert and the check longer than we expected. Overall it was a good experience, not great. We have had much better svc in the past at wayfare......
The staff was amazing and made my birthday very special. Amazing food and always love going here!
Service was excellent as always. Everyone loves what they ordered (fried chicken, banh mi, chicken tartine salad, and burgers). One plate of fried chicken could probably be split among two people. Then you have more room for sides :)
Wait staff was not knowledgeable about the new menu and the timing for drinks, appetizers, and food was really off
the best popovers on the planet. and the short ribs are great too.
Probably my 30th time here and Wayfare always exceeds expectations for quality, service, ambiance, and value.
My husband and I are longtime fans of Wayfare Tavern for dinner and this was our first brunch experience there; apparently a new experience for Wayfare Tavern as well. I feel they still have some "kinks" to work out, but they're trying. Our waitress was very sweet and trying to accommodate us. The food was tasty; yet a few more menu choices would have been nice. Also, apparently the chef didn't know how to do my request for "egg whites only", unlike ANY other brunch restaurant offerings.
Fortunately the four of us weren't in a hurry, so the very slow service wasn't a problem. The restaurant was not crowded, so no excuse there!
3 words...burgers and martinis! Great Friday lunch and the waiter (Justin) was super friendly and prompt! Thanks for making our Friday eventful (in a good way).
Very crowded that night. Better atmosphere at lunch. Food excellent.
Wafare is absolutely terrific from top to bottom. It's warm environment and amazing food keep locals coming back for more. I've blown several colleagues minds by simply ordering the chicken and doughnuts! Both are delightful apart AND together! This treat is not to be missed and can only be found at Wafare! **if you go this route, please remember to let your server know to bring them out together and prepare to have your mind blown! Enjoy! Was treated so poorly. Waited forever to get served. Ordered the fried chicken and the bottom of the plate was coated in salt. The table next to us arrived 30mins after us and got served a lot faster.
I found our waiter to be very rude. He was not very nice to us and had absolutely no personality.
Very poor service, The waiter was unprofessional and moody. He handed us our drinks instead of putting them down on the table. He pressured us as to why we were only starting with appetizers and not ordering a full course meal right off the bat. We were planning for a nice get together with a friend and ended up paying for our drinks and walking out because the service was lackluster for a place that has amazing ambiance and good food.
We chose Wayfare for a family lunch after our daughter's wedding at City Hall. I did some preplanning with your even staff and it went flawlessly. I preordered apps and they were ready and delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our champagne, wine and popovers! I would recommend Wayfare to anyone for lunch, dinner or drinks in a warm, friendly setting.
Best fried chicken I’ve ever had. Great drinks and fantastic appetizers too! Don’t skip on dessert either, the donuts are to die for.
Everything was great, however, at the end, our server accused us of stealing one of the pens he brought over for us to sign the checks. He counted the pens, said one was missing and that he would walk away and that the pen should be on the table when he returned. One of the several pens he had brought over had fallen on the floor. After a bill of $400 before tip, it was rather insensitive of him to make that false accusation.
First class dining experience from amenities to service and, of course, food. Had the famous fried chicken and it went beyond expectations. Chicken was succulent and not dry. Breast were deboned which made it much easier to eat. The spices, herbs, lemon and roast garlic on the side added layers of flavors that could be mixed or stand alone. Well worth the reputation. Wife had a nice Butter Lettuce salad with Green Goddess dressing. Love that dressing, but rarely found in restaurants. Instead of bread, there is a starter of a popover. Simple, but well executed. Could have ate two! Sat upstairs on a quiet Sunday lunch. They were soft opening a new brunch menu, but since it was my first time there...wanted to have the famous fried chicken. Would definitely recommend reservations as there were people waiting outside before opening at 11:30am. Highly recommended!
We had their famous fried chicken. It was wonderful as expected. I am a dessert person so the sticky toffee dessert was disappointing. Dry with not a lot of flavor, not enough ice-cream served with it.
Food was fabulous. The chicken is every bit as good as they say it is. Wonderful spices and very moist. Had the butter lettuce salad and it was also tasty. The avocados were creamy and the green goddess dressing superb. Will be back again. Have to book pretty far in advance for a Friday lunch time. But well worth the wait.
Incredible experience, we lucked out and received a private room for our table. 10/10
Waited more than 15 minutes after my reservation time and then got seated at a table by the kitchen. They could've done better.
Great destination restaurant with Southern inflected menu, including some of the best fried chicken ever. Excellent burrata, side dishes and desserts. Cozy ambience. Service was a little slow, but we weren't in any hurry. Highly recommended.
The food was great and the service was great also. I couldn’t walk to the second floor on the stairs so was taken to an elevator and that was so nice for me.
It's always a thoroughly enjoyable time at Wayfare Tavern. The location itself, tucked away on the corner of Sacramento and Leidersdorff, in the shadow of the Transamerica Pyramid helps to create the illusion of a hidden bistro in the "big" city. The atmosphere from the wood paneling to the fireplace hints to the cozy and intimate meal ahead. The service is top notch, the drinks are delicious, and the food is always on point. The famous pop overs, even though simple, are delicious and I dare you not to order a second round. I've gone here multiple times, and it is always consistent and reliable. It's a great place to celebrate an occasion or to indulge and enjoy for no reason at all. Highly recommended.
I would not rush here again. Drink order was simple - vodka gimlet rocks. Got a glass of ice and another glass with the drink. huh? Ordered a salad with their "famous" fried chicken. Again got a salad with a side plate of 2 pieces of chicken. - a leg and a nugget of breast The lobster deviled eggs were great The mac and cheese was average. The room (we sat downstairs) was great - super charming. Overall I would say portions and quality does not match the pricing. Would I go here and sit at the bar? Absolutely!
Very good food. Wish they would offer wine tastes. Great service.
One of my favorite restaurants. The staff is always fantastic and makes the place feel like home!
Loved the food, location and our server. She was amazing.
We went on one of the hottest days and their air conditioner was out. Their servers were constantly filling up our water glasses.
La comida estaba deliciosa, fuimos 5 personas y todos quedamos complacidos. Muy bien servicio y trato por parte del personal, el único detalle es que el clima interior era caluroso ya que no cuentan con aire acondicionado
the fried chicken is out of this world. Loved the whole experience. Easy to get to.
We had poor service during our last outing to Wayfare Tavern, which is a rare occurrence. Overall, the food is always delicious.
It was our first time visiting. We really enjoyed the service and friendliness from the staff. The food was excellent and plenty of portions. We will definitely visit again.
My husband and I were in town on a multi-destination trip and read good reviews about this place. We made reservations. The tavern is very small and extremely loud. You sit right on top of anyone else dining there unless you have a larger party. Food was way too expensive for the quality. We never had an actual server for the evening, multiple people waited on us. Chilled lobster was about the size of 2 shrimp pieces and cost $30. Lobster deviled eggs were over filled and not flavorful. Would not recommend.
Wayfare has been on my wish list forever. Was in town to see Hamilton. Perfect opportunity, right? Beautiful space. Service excellent. Menu was interesting but not very large. Very noisy. Ordered salmon, was good, wasn’t “
