Foto: John Lee.

Organic Fried Chicken
(best-fried chicken in America list, F&W magazine) buttermilk brine, roasted garlic, crisp herbs, lemon
This restaurant believes it is better than it is. They act like they are best restaurant in SF but they aren’t. We tried it and it wasn’t bad but it isn’t worth going back.
Everything was wonderful. We went for restaurant week and had a wonderful meal and time.
Ask to be in Sean’s section!
Outstanding in every respect-great food, atmosphere and staff. A throughly enjoyable experience.
Outstanding food (fried chicken!!!!) and drink. Busy place. Service was a bit slow, we had a 90 minute time limit but waited 30 minutes for dessert to arrive. Fortunately we were able to stay beyond our time and were not rushed out the door!
Food was wonderful. Popovers were to die for.
Great food and service. The fried chicken is really, really good!
Always a fun treat to enjoy a meal at Wayfare Tavern!
Absolutely wonderful place for a meal. Outstanding service.
Fabulous experience. Wayfare is consistent
Service was awesome, everyone that we interacted with was kind and polite. Food presentation was beautiful!
Fantastic menu, great food, and awesome service.
Our meal began well because we had excellent service and our drinks and appetizers arrived in a timely fashion. However, as the restaurant filled and our food server became stretched, so did the kitchen. Two of our sides arrived cold and we sent them back and didn’t get them back until the end of our meal and no longer wanted them. I have a feeling the rain impacted outside seating and it was too much for staff to keep up. Overall a lovely meal, but the food was pretty delayed and our meal stretched much longer than it should have. I’ll be back though. Times are tough for staff, so be kind and patient.
We got the pumpkin gnocchi with grilled chicken, organic fried chicken, and burrata...everything was absolutely delicious. Service didn't miss a beat, being courteous, attentive and personable. 5 different people came to our table all just helping each other out. Would absolutely come back if ever in the Bay Area again
The service was great. Our server was attentive and provided great feedback on the menu. The food was very delicious. We ordered the French toast and fried chicken…both were on point! I highly recommend this place for brunch!
Service seemed a bit slow, although post pandemic i guess that’s the new normal. Food is good, although seems ready for a refresh.
Outstanding service, well run staff, old school ambiance and excellent detail on servings but the famous fried chicken was on the meager side...
Food was excellent and so was the service. Highly recommend it!
We participated in the SF Restaurant Week, and are long-time fans of Wayfare Tavern. Excellent service with Jaime. Consistently good food. Wines by the glass need to be wines with more aging. Why serve a 2020 cabernet?
We are visiting from NYC and went here for dinner on a friend’s recommendation. I loved everything about this restaurant. It just so happened to be restaurant week and we ordered the pre-fixe restaurant week menu. The salad was delicious, the fried chicken was perfection, and the donut that we had for dessert is honestly the best donut I’ve ever had! Wines were delicious as well. Service was top notch. I highly recommend this restaurant - you will not be disappointed!
Good table, no wait and good service (though it took a long while to get our cocktails). I didn’t book because it was restaurant week, but seeing the menu offered it sounded like a good deal so we chose it. The salad was average, the chicken had good flavor but was dry and it was the only thing on the plate. The desert was doughy not special. The best thing at the meal was the popovers. My take: restaurant week brings the people in the door but the food was below average so not worth it. However the atmosphere and service might bring newcomers back.
Bone marrow starter is fabulous!
Great restaurant, amazing food, and the drinks were super delicious
Overall what a wonderful place to visit for this SF Native and foodie. The popovers, which aren’t even listed on the menu and appear - hot with salted butter - are heaven sent - and a welcome surprise that I continue to go back for.
Quiet warm atmosphere. Can't wait to try EVERYTHING on the menu!
We were in SF on a cruise. Caught UBER to the Tavern and loved the fried chicken, buratta mashed potatoes and the drinks. All the service from checkin in to check out was lovely. We felt very welcome and special.
We’ve been coming to Wayfare for many years now, it started when my son was 10 his first time here made such a great impression he wanted to spend every birthday here, he is now 16. Although he was very young, he knew what amazing food was and amazing food to him is Wayfare. It is now our tradition to come here for every occasion we can make up! We love the outstanding service, the food is so delicious and the price you can’t beat.
Love, love this place and we recommend it anyone, you will be very here, we promise! Keep up the wonderful work and see you very soon! Love you guys!!’
We were looking forward to dining at Wayfarer's Tavern.
However, we had to wait 1hour and 30 minutes for our entrees.
There were two large parties and all the waiters seemed to attend the parties before other customers. Management needs to plan better if there are large groups. We were served by 5 different people! The manager was even serving tables. When we tried to ask him where our food was, he looked directly at us and just walked away.
They did reduce our bill for this bad service. But we were very disappointed and probably will not return.
Very noisy! I was there on a date, but we were sandwiched between two different groups of men so loud that I couldn't talk to my partner on the other side of the table. We eventually asked to be moved which made it much more enjoyable. The food was good, and the ambience otherwise nice (when subtracting the noise).
I’ve been wanting to come here for a long time and finally made it. I hadn’t seen a friend of mine in San Francisco for over three years and we were going out to dinner at the last minute he said can we go earlier and I was in the neighborhood and when I did a search on OpenTable your name popped up. And I thought right will go. It was a 5:45 PM Dining time left so I grabbed it. I had the Wayfare Tavern in my list of places to go to which is why it popped up knowing where I was.
Great food great service great ambience and I look forward to my next visit.
Chicken was as good as always. A must whenever we visit San Francisco.
Everything was wonderful — except
Trip to SF with my kids for a concert. The service was outstanding. We got there a bit early for our reservation but they sat us immediately. We had an amazing meal!
I think Wayfare might be suffering like so many restaurants due to Covid. The food was still delicious but the service was pretty awful. Servers were polite but couldn't get our order right, our bill right, etc...I had informed them that we were celebrating an anniversary but we were initially put at an awful table against the stairs with all the wait staff coming and going next to us until I asked to be moved. All in all, it was depressing to return to my favorite restaurant in San Francisco and see it struggling so. The food was delicious, there were still warm popovers, but all-in-all, it wasn't what it used to be.
We were so looking forward to this meal. It was not bad but was not exactly what we had hoped for. We are outside and the weather was beautiful but the chairs are horrible. The service was okay she was very polite but overall slow. My husband ordered the bone marrow and loved it. Th gnocchi was very rich and the fried chicken was good. Overall the night was okay.
An SF classic! Always solid! The oysters were delicious and we always love the chicken!
Great place, always great service, food and cocktails. Today was exceptional in all those areas. But, I notated in my open table reservation, we had a person with a disability and outside seating had a curb so the restaurant made accommodations for her but one employee made a very rude comment… we were “messing up his set up” because the temporary wall had to be moved for her to get to the table. It’s unfortunate he said this loud enough for all of us to hear and in front of her children. Please invest in a temporary ramp. I have one in my home when she visits . It’s cost $100.
We were very pleased with all aspects of our visit. The food was delicious. Our waiter, especially, was charming and very helpful. We’ll definitely be coming back.
We appreciate the outdoor dining option and tables were set spatially apart and we never felt congested. However, a few more heat lamps will definitely help as the alley does get chilly without much sun peeking in.
Our wait person was very attentive and willing to accommodate our dietary restrictions, thanks Sean!!
