WORKSHOP kitchen + culture
The food was fantastic and I appreciate the care that was taken to accommodate my gluten allergy.
A little loud but overall great fish..
Good place for a business lunch but a bit expensive.
Amazing! I cannot say enough about the food; it was a spectacular dinner that had me thinking about planning a night in the future to come back. A simple menu with just enough selection that it was impossible to order a bad meal. I would recommend it to anyone who has an appreciation for good food!
The food at Workshop was good, however overpriced for what you received. The service was terrible, there seemed to be one server on for the whole restaurant, and everything took forever to get served. At one point we waited over 15 minutes for a beer - which is completely unacceptable.
I checked the menu online before making my reservation (as I am KETO) and decided I would order the Cubano. As it said nothing about a bun and I wanted to confirm it wasn't a sandwich before ordering, I asked. Waiter said it was and would not be good without the bun. I asked about the chicken and he said that was a sandwich also. He left and I foolishly thought he was checking on what the kitchen could do for me but he just came back and asked what we wanted to order. I said it looks like the only thing I can eat is the soup and salad so ordered that. My friend ordered the Cubano, said it was absolutely delicious. I saw no reason why it would not be good without a bun and told the waiter that. He said "sorry miss". My soup & salad was mediocre and not at all filling, so I left hungry. Not a great experience.
One of the best meals I've ever had. The chef is phenomenal.
Great restaurant. Ambience is energetic and fun. Food is absolutely fabulous. We all tried the improv menu and were blown away by the creativity and delicious flavours. I highly recommend.
The WORKSHOP kitchen is a small restaurant that is located at the entrance to the Grand Theatre. The noise level is Ok but does get pretty loud when the people are leaving the theatre.
The food was very good and served in a stylish fashion. Everyone in our party of four enjoyed our meals but I feel the prices were a bit high for what you received.
We had a great experience at Workshop on Saturday June 8. My husband and I had the 3-course Improv, which was delicious. Our daughter chose from the menu and was equally happy with her food. Her friend, who is celiac, was treated very well by our waiter, Bobby. He was very helpful navigating the menu for celiac friendly options. The friend had a great time and enjoyed the food very much. We will come again!
Lovely evening! Food was great. Service was great. It was very cold in the restaurant however which made it uncomfortable and parking was not good.
I LOVE this restaurant for lunches. They are always efficient, friendly, fun and the daily braise is to-die-for. So good. Highly recommend the Lougheed lunch to anyone wanting a bit of everything and to try something new.
Lougheed Lunch for $25 was great! Comes with soup or salad starter, a fish or meat main, and a dessert. Great for business lunches and I feel that Workshop really caters to this feature of their menu.
We did the three course improv menu before a 7:30 theatre show and were not disappointed! Our server Bobby made excellent recommendations throughout the service and was there when you needed him and for as long without being overbearing or too absent. He was conscientious of our time sensitive dinner. My only regret is not booking an earlier reservation to have been able to enjoy the 5 course!
Delicious evening. They have high tables and low, we sat at the high which was perfect. Great service, patient, informative and very accommodating. Our cocktails were very tasty, lots of nice choice. Our steak was perfectly done. Can’t decide between the cauliflower or the sprouts, have both, you will not be sorry.
I will definitely go back.
Workshop is always a perfect place for a date... great food and service as always. The show was on so it was a bit noisey on breaks from that but it’s to be expected. See you next time!
First time to workshop and not disappointed! We did the 5course improv menu and blown away by your chef. Bobby our server was amazing and very knowledgable on all food and drinks!
In the words of Arnold- I'll be back!
I recommend doing everything improv! This team knows what they’re doing! Let them make your cocktail based on what you like and definitely try the 5 course with the wine/drink pairing. This menu changes every day so it keeps you coming back. Oh, and if you are lucky enough to get Bobby as your server, then you are in for an amazing night with first class service.
The atmosphere was great and the service and food were amazing. The place was freezing though, we needed to wear our jackets.
Interesting vibe. Discreet location in an old theater building where they still hold plays and other events. Restaurant is located in the midst of all that. Food and service were excellent. I got the Improv option and loved that I had to make no decisions on my food choices. However, next time I will order off the menu as other items I didn't get a chance to try looked excellent. My only complaint was that while you are eating, people going to events within the same space are milling by your table and are loud. Once the play /event begins and people are seated behind closed doors, the restaurants gets quieter. Lovely location for a romantic date night if you ask for seating toward the backside of the restaurant--away from the throngs circulating around the restaurant.
The portions are quite small so for a generous appetite the serving size would not be appropriate. Quality of the food was excellent and presentation was with a stroke of artistry. Service was flawless and the ambience was interesting with bench seating.
Lame atmosphere for a Saturday, waiter was very short in words, food was ok but overall very underwhelming!
Brought out of town guest for dinner here and they enjoyed every aspect of the dining experience.
Amazing food and great ambience
Food was amazing. Love the sharables idea - works perfect for my husband and I.
Drinks were also amazing. Server was very professional and informative on the menu. Great evening.
The chefs menu is simply amazing. I cant wait to go and try another one.
We were seated and served promptly. Our server was excellent and explained the options clearly. There were 3 of us, we chose the tasting menu and a bottle of wine. While the food was interesting and quite good, overall we left feeling it was quite expensive for what it was at over $400. Great decor and a great space with a pricey menu.
Great food selections. Locally sourced suppliers. Servers are very attentive. Great lunch meal special that changes daily. Soups are fantastic.
Great place. A “go to” when I am in Calgary. My only complaint this time is that we hung around til past 1:30pm after a bit later start to lunch and the “clean up noise” in the open kitchen was overly/distractingly loud. Lots of crashing and loud talk. Noticed by others as well. Other than that all good!
Went on a Monday and was surprised to discover that the regular menu was not available and we could only pick the 3 or 5 course chefs menu. Not knowing this before hand I was a little hesitant, but we decided to go for it - best decision!
The food was fantastic! Definitely of the best meals I had in a long time. I really enjoyed the tasting menu and it was a great opportunity to try food I might not have ordered. The portions were a perfect size and a great value for the price.
Want to come back and try the regular menu but will absolutely do the tasting menu again!
Incredible food. The workshop was plenty of food for a larger appetite and the wine pairing took it to a whole new level. Dinner lasted 4 hours for the five course tasting menu but it was an incredible dinner and didn't even notice until I paid.
John(?) was patient and helpful. Wonderful experience
Great food, great atmosphere, will definitely go back!
Off the charts great!
Workshop continues to impress with the best food in Calgary but also ranks high with the absolute most uncomfortable seating in the history of restaurants.
If the food wasn't so good, I would never subject myself to those seats ever again in my life. Please for the love of God fix your seating.
Absolutely fantastic 5 course meal! The quality and flavour of our dinner was impeccable, not to mention the amount of food you get for $55 was beyond our expectations! We will be back to try the dinner menu!
Service was great, but most dishes were lackluster. The cod was incredibly unbalanced- no acid or sharpness to it all, all soft and creamy and the curry had a weird aftertaste. Things are paired together that don’t go properly together (a sweet fry bread with a VERY heavily smoked lamb rack). While the food was all cooked and prepared well, the dishes had serious taste and balance issues. Even the espresso torte for desert was troubled. The salted caramel gelato was so salty and over sweet I didn’t eat it (first time in my life I’ve left ice cream on the plate). Appetizers were the best menu options, the scallops in particular. The cauliflower the server recommended was good, but missing some heat or acidity. It just tasted mayo drenched. Overall service was great but I definitely wouldn’t come back
Wonderful experience. Staff was knowledgeable and open. Made perfect suggestions. Food was amazing. We tried the chefs menu and we can’t wait to come back!
A friend who was in Calgary for an extended stay visited fifty five restaurants in the area. His top choice was Workshop. I finally followed his recommendation and was not disappointed. Delicious food, generous portions, relaxed friendly service, nice ambiance. A little on the pricey side but you get what you pay for. Got a tad noisy which is always a consideration for us but would not deter another visit. I’ve already been recommending Workshop to friends.
