We missed coming to Yank Sing at the Rincon Center. As with many restaurants coming back from Covid they were understaffed for as many tables as were filled. We came on a Sunday with an 11:30 reservation. Took forever to get s waiter to our table for beverages..No one checking on water refills or tea refills. Nots as many dishes as pre Covid were brought out from the kitchen. Very slow on food coming to tables. However the food was outstanding. We will come back in a few months and hopefully it will be more organized.
Also, the whole atrium appears to be under a large remodel, so not too attractive and definitely very noisy. We still love Yank Sing and will be back

Still not a fan of the QR format of menu ordering but food continues to be the best Chinese food - especially dim sum - on the west coast.

Chaos is the one word description I would give this restaurant. There are at least 2 entrances into a large open cafeteria like setting. If you can find the hostess stand then you will be seated at a table for 8 no matter the size of your party. Then find a QR code and order your drinks. That's when the onslaught of servers and rolling carts begin circling you like sharks offering you food that you may or may not recognize, understand, or want but being a adventurer I tried a few items that were offered . 8 bowls of different dumplings later and still not sure what I ate...I received a bill of $150.00. I left feeling taken advantage of dissatisfied with the whole experience. The food was mediocre at best. The service was friendly yet pushy. The cafeteria was loud and I would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone unless you love this type of chaotic experience with mediocre, overpriced food.

Yank Sing is Back and so are the carts! My 13 year old wanted Yank Sing for her Birthday celebration so we drive two hours not knowing what exactly to expect. We hoped the carts would have returned and THEY ARE BACK! The atmosphere is different. Service is only in the Atrium area and it's on easy clean plastic tables but the food is on point and the selection is pretty good. The prices are still high and the time to get your bill is long but that's nothing new. I'm happy to see Yank Sing has survived and glad they can continue to be part of our celebrations.

Seating was in the atrium. The restaurant which has more ambiance was not open for inside seating. Beverage ordering were not taken by the waiter. You need to order all beverages through their app, so be prepared to have your mobile phone handy.

Tea has to be ordered separately by the cup and they were served in paper cups. Things weren’t very hot even they were brought in the steam cart. For the price they charge, totally not worth it!!

Sadly eating outside in the courtyard without the pleasure of the traditional carts felt like dormitory food service. The whole dining experience was lacking the pre Covid experience.

I've been visiting Yank Sing for many years, and it always a pleasure. The famous Shanghai dumpling were excellent as always. They can resuscitate the dead.
Alas, Covid has considerably diminished the overall experience.
The menu is smaller, with many of the signature items (sea bass, Peking duck) are missing. Even tea is now sold by the cup rather than by the teapot. No carts. Instead, you order via an app: each table has a QR code which you scan on your phone, leading you to a site where you can choose off the menu. You pay via the app, in advance.
Seating is in now the Rincon center lobby, on picnic grade furniture.

Most of this is beyond the restaurant's control and things should get better as life recovers. The food itself is still great.
The server was very nice and apologized for the state of affairs.

I do worry about the use of the app for ordering. It is an unpleasant experience. I assume the dim sum carts will eventually return and the app will go away.

Special food; every single dish was delicious. There is no worse feeling than the realization that you cannot eat another morsel, with so much more to order.

Way too expensive. The temporary set up was in the building’s atrium with fold up tables. The ambiance was definitely not worth the steep prices being charged. It was good to try once but not again. I was disappointed too that the hot sauce is no longer for sale!

As always the dim sum was very good. Two things I noticed, probably collateral damage from the pandemic- 1- the prices are significantly higher, 2- the selection is significantly less :( .

What a surprise returning to the venerable Yank Sing as Covid ends. Open Table says to Choose Inside or Outside dining. Omitted is “Inside” means sitting at round plastic tables in the vaulted atrium lobby space. The amplified sound of metal chairs scraping across the stone floor. Long waits for food, dumplings coming out lukewarm. Several items delivered simultaneously, with one or two left out. Patrons must remember to check the printed list taped to the table and remind waiter about omitted items that are then brought when you’re ready for dessert. Signature dishes not on menu. No cost reduction. No senior staff nor management oversight. Teaming with Toast may be good for them but not customers. Will wait until main restaurant opens before returning or just do takeout.

I realize that you were accomodating to the Covid situation, however, we did not find the food up to your usual standards, and, of course the lack of the roving carts was sadly missed. The "outoor" venue was, particularly sparse, barren, lacking in color or warmth and really hard to tolerate.

I hope you will be able to get back to the delicious food and beautiful environment.

Excellent Dim sum as in the past. The seating was only outdoors in the atrium. Ordering is totally contact free. Service was prompt. Only point to nitpick will be all the dishes arrived very quickly and we missed the long lingering experience of the past waiting for the carts to roll by with sips of tea and chit chat.

Yank Sing has always been a standard bearer for SF Bay Area dim sum. It has definitely changed during the pandemic and as they now have indoor seating in the atrium, the experience is not the same. To start with they have partnered with Toast to provide a completely online ordering and payment system. The selection is not as robust as pre-COVID times, but most of the menu is available. The dishes are brought out by the staff, but unlike the old days, service is not as attentive, since you have to pay for the food once you order it on Toast (including the tip). That said, once you are able to track down waitstaff, they attend to the matter just fine (water, ice, additional napkins, utensils, etc.). Tea is ordered by the cup now and soy sauce and hot sauce is doled out in small disposable sauce containers. Overall, the food is still quite good, just the ambiance is very different and it’s just not the old Yank Sing we knew from days of yore.

Haven’t been to the city at all since 2019 so this was a special treat following the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit. It’s still Covid restrictions so the restaurant check in is outside in the main courtyard. We do have reservations. There Is a renovation going on in the atrium, so if you’re looking forward to the fountain it has been removed. There are no restaurants except for Yank Sing open. It appears that there are no inside restaurants planned as they did an upper seating for the the future of that center. However, in spite of that there were large tables separated in that atrium lobby, so whether you were two people or eight people you sat at your own table. You will be seated with plates napkins, real not wooden chopsticks and small containers of a hot sauce or chili sauce and soy sauce. When you’re seated you can scan your phone to pull up the menu of items and order what’s available and you plug in your credit card number and then they will bring your drinks and food. Due to the constraints of the kitchen items are less than the normal and all your food that you’ve ordered will come at once. Keep that in mind if you’re ordering a lot of food and you don’t want them to get cold you can always add on after. Water is served in a cardboard type container And you can order an iced tea in the bottle or sparkling water in a bottle. They do have beer and wine I believe there was wine definitely beer in the bottle. As an extra note there is an 18% tip added to your bill regardless of what you’re ordering and we were surprised that after the fact my husband ordered an iced tea in the bottle And there was a space to leave a tip. That would’ve been ridiculous because you’re not gonna tip somebody for bringing your drink.
Masks are required and so you’re sitting at your table and with the tables being as far apart as they were everyone was compliant and comfortable and as I said Loved it and will go back again soon.

This restaurant is doing a great job of retaining the excellence of its food, if not its atmosphere, while coping with the requirements of social distancing and safety in the pandemic era.

Seating was indoors in the atrium in Rincon Center, and place settings were pretty bare bones and lacking in grace - large plastic table top, folding chairs, no linens. But that's all in the service of creating a distant and easy to sanitize indoor eating environment. It was fine. The food made up for the lack of ambience.

Food came quickly, and was hot and tasty. Oolong tea was excellent and almost buttery in flavor. Servers were attentive.

Be sure to bring a cell phone that can scan a QR code - that's how you'll order and pay.

Yank Sing needs to bring back its food cart service. People show up to this restaurant because of this "Old China" tradition of having food carts with dim sum circulating the tables so that customers can pick and choose the goodies! Come on--serving tea in paper cups, give me a break! Also the variety of dim sum has greatly diminished (lot fewer choices) on the menu--now that we have to order from this very limited menu! We want the great variety of dim sum, noodles, and everything else back!!! The waiters and waitresses did a great job in helping customers under this social distanced table arrangement. I cannot recommend friends to come to Yank Sing until they change back to their pre=pandemic set-up.

I love Yank Sing and hadn't been there for ten years. I had been telling my wife about it and we finally made it up to have dim sum. Because of Covid there was no traditional cart parade and ordering was done via an app. Because of this I thought the experience would be somewhat diminished but it wasn't at all. It was actually nice to order exactly what we wanted rather than have to wait for a specific cart. The food was as incredible as I remembered and my wife is now as spoiled as I am. We don't live in the Bay Area so this was extra special and we won't be waiting another ten years to do it again.

After not going to Yank Sing for well over a year, we returned for an outdoor seating reservation. The food was excellent, but I found the phone-based ordering system to be not nearly as pleasant as ordering food off the roving carts from before the pandemic. It makes sense from a safety perspective. But we missed the spontaneity of seeing what was on the roving carts, and then ordering what we wanted on the spot. We had to anticipate ahead of time how much to order, and what to order. But, once we did that, the food we got was excellent. Hopefully, the old method of ordering Dim Sum dishes will return once California fully opens in mid-June.
