It was way too noisy. The people at the table behind us were screaming at each other in order to be heard. This was very unpleasant. Even the waiter had trouble hearing us. We were upstairs.
Ten outta ten, somehow got convinced that we should have dessert and don’t regret it for a second. Ate the chicken we couldn’t finish at dinner time for breakfast when we were hungover and it cured us so thanks guys
Zuni is a San Francisco institution. The wonderful food and a great atmosphere make it an amazing restaurant. I’d highly recommend the ‘Chicken for Two’, but everything I’ve had on the menu is good.
As usual, Zuni gives good value. The food is always good if not wonderful (and sometimes is in fact..wonderful). Unfortunately on this lunchtime visit, our waiter screwed up my order, putting in a fried chicken sandwich as a regular roast chicken dinner which takes at least an hour of prep time. After waiting forever for our food, the waiter came, confessed, apologized and offered free desserts (which I woudn't have gone for but the wife suddenly was in favor of). She got the peaches & grapes plate and the peaches were an hour away from being mealy. My cheese selection was the better dessert. The Ceasar salad, originally intended as my wife's appetizer, became our shared lunch as we'd given up waiting for the screwed-up main dish. Overall, not a great experience for a place with such a fine reputation. I'd have felt better if they'd comped the little food we'd eaten at the point the waiter confessed his error.
Zuni never disappoints. The design is genius. It's amazing how fresh it can feel after all these years. Our server was very nice and knowledgable and the food was delicious.
Lovely lunch before the theater. Great food, a bit cramped and noisy but still good experience
We had an amazing time at Zuni's celebrating my husband's 56th birthday! The food was delicious and the service impeccable.
Always reliably good. Caesar salad was slightly over dressed but the Manila clam chowder was wonderfully light & well seasoned.
Get the chicken! And the shoestring fries and the Caesar!
Reunion dinner with some overseas friends, they wanted San Francisco in a single place and of course that meant the Zuni. Dined like royalty, on the classics, a Zinfandel that was just right, right next to the wood burning oven, a busy and fun Saturday night, staff was fantastic, just the right amount of purpose and subtlety, everything about this meal was great. I've been dining at the Zuni since 1991 or so, and have never had a better meal there, all in. Thank you.
Food was overly salty
Superb service, creative cuisine. A true San Francisco gem.
Try it to let them stuff you in one of the back rooms where you are isolated from the restaurant vibe. Whole roasted chicken was delicious. As was the chaser salad. Dessert was nothing special.
Great food. Good service. Prices are pricey but a great lunch!
That Zuni has been around so long is a testament to its success and not that it has gotten complacent. Its wines and food are creative and delicious. While most restaurant serve versions of the same 4-5 desserts, Zuni’s selections are novel and seasonal. One is always wowed by its tasty chicken - worth the 60 minute wait. Beet salad and heirloom tomatoes was terrific. The squid selection not so much. The physical setting is such a pleasant and vibrant place.
Wonderful place...caesar salad, polenta, chicken and cheeseburger were all great!!!
Awesome decor and atmosphere. Even better food
The specialty of the house is a roast chicken, which they say takes an hour. We did not wait that long, but it would have been worth the wait. The restaurant is very attractive.
Service was ridiculous slow we arrived at 1:15 and needed to leave to airport at 2:40 and everything moved super slow we barely made and our upstairs seating area was not full
Overpriced, stuffy atmosphere and the food was not great. I was really looking forward to Zuni but unfortunately would not be back or rush to recommend it.
Quintessential San Francisco experience
A must treat for out of town guests & any other occasion or simply to drop in for a great meal
Always consistent in every facet
Another amazing meal here. This spot is in my top 5. It’s consistently great on all levels.
Classic SF - from heirloom tomatoes to the iconic roasted chicken, we really enjoyed our meal here as always!
The food and bread, amazing. The menu wasn’t extensive but we had a hard time schooling between delicious sounding options. We arrived early for our reservation, we were directed to the bar and seated shortly after. We had a cozy view of the modern open kitchen and wood stove. Loved the side by side, comfy cushioned bench seating to maximize the updated historic space. I had the duck tostada with fried egg avocado and herbs. I don’t know what alchemy was done to make the combined taste so magical. The duck, tender and perfect, the fried egg a delicious addition, the tostada crisp user the thin layer of guacamole herbs and magic dust. The bread, so yummy... a crusty whole wheat sour dough with lots of butter. The portions were not the large standards we’ve become accustomed to, ample for one but would have allowed one to enjoy oysters, dessert, or the fruit or cheese plates. My companions meal was delicious and he loved the oysters. The cocktail offerings eclectic and interesting. Their accolades well earned.
We came here for our 21st wedding anniversary with our two teenage boys. It was just ok. The service was great. We were seated at a table with two seats against the wall and two wooden chairs. The chairs were really uncomfortable. Get some cushions! The food was adequate but not great for the price. We ordered an expensive appetizer and it was 3 tiny pieces for 4 people. I was super surprised at the bill compared to what we got. Probably won't come here again when there are so many other places to go in SF. I will say, dessert was really good.
Disappointing! Very limited menu. Famous roasted chicken requires 60 minutes prep per the menu. So much for that. Expensive for small portions. Duck leg $33. And it was a regular size duck leg. One leg. Caesar Salad for two at $17 was excellent. So was the bread. Extensive wine list, but it was surprising to see so many Italian and French wines in an SF restaurant. Wine by the glass choices very limited. Seating is unusual. Some tables don't have chairs. You sit on a bench with your back to a brick wall. Some don't even have that. You can lean back to the back of another diner. Excellent public transportation access on F streetcar line. I recommend Zuni for only for foodies.
Zuni is excellent in every way! Food is very well prepared and nicely served.
Arrived on time for an 8:15 reservation, and was notified our table was delayed. Hostess apologized for the delay and we were comped two appetizers which was very nice. We immediately ordered the chicken when we sat at 8:35 and waited until 9:55 before our entrees including the chicken came tonight table; one hour and 20 minutes after a 20 minute wait to sit down! I was getting “hangry”. To add insult to injury, the table of three men next to us who were seated after we had been seated, not only had a chicken but was able to consume the chicken in its entirety before our chicken even arrived. Was there a mixup in the kitchen? service?
In the end the staff was very nice and they comped us more food and drink, but something was amiss that eve. thanks to Steven and Stephen for trying to make things right.
Lastly, the porchetta was way over cooked and dry. The chicken was delicious as always along w the appetizers and oysters. Still a SF classic
Loved the Zuni cafe. Highly recommend it. Will definitely go back!
ALL TIME FAVORITE SF RESTAURANT! A LOVELY SERVER, INSANELY DELICIOUS DINNER!
the ONE BIG disappointment is their BEER selection. WHY CAN'T THEY OFFER A TRADITIONAL ANCHOR STEAM BEER TO GO WITH ALL OF THE OTHER LOCAL FAVORITE FOODS. I DON'T LIKE ANCHOR LAGER AND THE OLD FASHIONED STEAM BEER IS AMAZING! PLEASE RECONSIDER ADDING IT TO THE LIST.
Love this place. You can’t go wrong and the service is always amazing.
Chicken was incredible. Great service.
Good interior design and good food but limited menu choice and too expensive for value!
As always, consistently amazing both in food and service.
Zuni never disappoints.
We were thinking of ordering the roasted chicken which takes an hour to cook, but decided we didn’t want to wait that long, but turns out we didn’t receive our lunch order for an hour anyway. Very slow service. Don’t know why; there were plenty of waiters & a lot of tables available. Our waiter was friendly, but no explanation for the slow service. Hopefully it was just a one day problem.
They seemed annoyed to have us there. It took 15 minutes to get our waiter. he didn't tell us about specials.....not a great service at all.
Nice atmosphere, food just okay.
You can always count on Zuni for a great meal and great service!
