I have wanted to go here for a long time and it was wonderful.
outstanding, a favorite year after year. Thank you Nate!
Came back to the city to go to Zuni Cafe for the chicken. It didn’t disappoint again. Wish there was a little more privacy between tables. Haven’t had the chance to dine upstairs so it could be a different set up. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The food was good, as always; the service this time was not as great as it should be. It took a good 30 min after ordering to get our drinks. It’s also a little uncomfortable to listen to very loud conversations on either side of us.
If we could we would wander to Zuni's each evening for dinner....everything about being there feels just right....the people, the food, the wine, the lovely smells of great food and fun.....we will never tire of our time at Zunis, The Barkers (Kim and Clarence)
The chicken is good, but not worth the hype or the price. I wouldn't recommend going.
Surprisingly off night this beloved SF institution. Salmon dish came out half prepared (half of the dish was missing) and, astonishing, the kitchen at first refused to replace it. Upon push back, helped by a very gracious server, they eventually did but the dish that came out in replacement surely looked like a “kitchen revenge salmon”. Hopefully this will remain a rare exception. Maintaining my love and loyalty to this wonderful place for now, but this just wasn’t acceptable. Service certainly was up to their usual high standard.
good solid food...basic....was hoping for something a little better. nothing special, but certainly nothing bad. Bloody Mary was very good as was the Caesar salad.
Great ambiance, food and service.
My pizza was served completely cold and was soggy. The waiter was kind and efficient though.
Fantastic experience at Zuni as always. Food and service are always perfect. Love it. Wish I could eat there every day.
incredible service and food.
Roasted chicken special was a little better than supermarket rotisserie, not worth $63
It would still be helpful if the chicken could be ordered in advance and prepaid for prior to arrival. It took over an hour on this last visit. Thanks.
Still as yummy and charming as ever. The porchetta and lamb entrees were particularly delicious. The wine-by-the-glass menu was short but very well selected.
The poached pear salad with lemon zest may be the most delicious thing that I’ve ever put in my mouth.
The roast chicken is the best we got so hungry we forgot to take a picture
Great place, first time.love the food
Excellent food and service. Large portions so easy to share. Great experience.
Maybe the best meal I’ve ever had! Every entree was exceptional!!!
Had lunch at Zuni Café for the first time in over six years. The menu items were as delicious as ever. We enjoyed the steamed baby clams as an appetizer. Two friends liked their entrees, a Caesar salad and an open face burger. But my main dish, the swordfish, was the best I've ever tasted, tender, moist, and spiced exactly right.
We splurged on a couple of desserts but all agreed that the Gateau, a deceptively moist, deep dark chocolate masterpiece, served with a dollop of whipped cream, was to die for. Service at Zuni, as always, was impeccable.
Do yourself a favor a order the chicken! We also ordered oysters and a fabulous citrus dish with a brown butter sauce since the chicken takes an hour to prepare/cook.
Still bringin' it after all these years. Terrific roasted quail, and the bay leaf panna cotta was a wonderful surprise.
We had the most fantastic experience at Zuni Cafe. The service was exemplary and the food was phenomenal. We left in such high spirits after our dinner! We can’t wait to go back!
The place is a gem
Delicious as always! Exceptional wine list as well.
Chicken is a must, thoroughly enjoyed the experience - the food was worth the wait (1 hour prep time)
Lunch with an old friend...only thing is that the host may want to smile a bit when greeting guests.
Overall a fabulous lunch
Chicken was average but too expansive. Part of the Bread in the Bread Salad was burnt. Service was not attentive.
always a pleasure dining at zuni!
The chicken for two was absolutely delicious - as was the Cesar salad. This place has a unique vibe- great food and an attractive restaurant. Casual place with fine dining!
I want to start by saying that the food was excellent as was our server. The problems I had with this restaurant were:
1. found a hair in my plate. I had finished the trout and the hair was in the vegetable that came with it so did not bother returning it.
2. For dessert I was given a spoon that had lipstick on it. Not the handle but the spoon itself. I did ask for another spoon and enjoyed the dessert but those two things did ruin my experience at this place.
Granted we have not been to Zuni Cafe in the last 10 years or so, but it seems to have gone downhill a bit. Food was OK but not as outstanding as the previous times (again, 10 years ago). May have also been reflected in the fact that one of the louvered windows not far from our table was broken and kept the area around our table rather chilly. Need to fix the window, it reflects that maybe they don't care about the diner experience as much as they used to.
FABULOUS AS SLWSYS
I brought a friend for her very first experience of Zuni. It was a great disappointment when we were told that the trout we both ordered had not arrived yet. After 20 minutes or so we were asked to select another dish since the trout hadn't arrived at all. As a customer for over 30 years; I was embarrassed that my friend's first dining experience at Zuni was flawed by an unreliable product source. Out of frustration, I ordered the burger and my friend chose the fennel sausage with lintels. They were both delicious, but we left feeling disappointed by the experience.
I would recommend that one asks for a specific table as many of them are not great. We were seated on a weird bench with no back that we shared with diners from the next table and it was not comfortable.
The restaurant tries to cram as many people as possible in, and some tables are just not what you'd expect for the price you pay.
Also, our server was the most unfriendly waiter I had ever experienced, he had a scowl on his face and did not crack a smile the whole evening; again, not what I expect from this kind of restaurant.
Lastly, the appetizers and main entrees were good, but the desserts were mediocre as best.
Terrific food, very nice and efficient waiter, but a little too noisy.
The vibe at Zuni hasn’t changed much over the years (not necessarily a bad thing) but and the food and service are STILL excellent. They have definitely maintained their status of one of the first Bay Area restaurants deliciously
feature local and seasonal ingredients in the ‘California’ style of food.
Still a fabulous place with stellar service, warm ambiance, and wonderful welcoming and friendly environment that few restaurants still offer. One of our favorites. All that said, the chicken did not live up to my memory of the last time I had it or its reputation. Maybe it was just an off night for the fowl
We ordered the chicken. When it came, about half of the bread chunks were totally burnt on one side. We pointed it out to our waiter and he explained that they like to make the bread well-cooked. It wasn’t well-cooked. It was black burnt!! Food cooked like that is carcinogenic. Our waiter did offer to bring us another order of the bread. He did that. It was perfect. But serving burnt bread in a dish that costs 63.00? I won’t be be hurrying back to the Zuni Cafe.
