Never disappointed when I take friends or guests to Fauna. Great ambiance, great food, great service!
Apps were overshadowed by the mains. Beef cheeks and duck were incredible... on a whole other level. Ham and dumplings were underwhelming.
Will def be back again. Might skip apps.
Soiree tres agreable, belles surprises à chacun des services. Bonne recommandation de vin canadien. Seul bemol niveau sonore de la musique pourrait etre un peu plus bas.
We did the tasting menu, it was fun but portion sizes were small. Really enjoyed the wine pairing and service was great
Interesting and delicious dishes, service polished and friendly.
The food was excellent with good portions. Service was excellent.
Great service. Expensive!! Great atmosphere
Went here for date night not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. A romantic atmosphere, beautiful local artwork, delicious food, and tasty cocktails can be found at Fauna. We had the egglplant carpaccio, scallops, green curry, and negroni biannco. The host and staff were all friendly and professional. I will definitely be back for a future date night or anniversary.
Food was very good minus a couple of dishes. The service wasn’t good- messed up two of our orders and didn’t explain any of the dishes and never checked in. It was a good dinner overall but don’t need to come back.
A great experience. Every dish had an unexpected but interesting and delicious twist. Service was excellent. Also had a very interesting selection of ciders
J'ai vraiment apprécié ma soirée, le service, une des bonne tables d'Ottawa.
The service continues to be impreccable The servers always have an excellent understanding of the wine list and we have always enjoyed solid wine pairing recommendations. The consistency in providing high quality food and service makes this our favorite "special evening" for over 2 years!
We keep returning to Fauna because the food is so well prepared, the menu is innovative and appealing and both the service and ambience are great. It is a place where you can always count on the quality. Have gone there with a variety of friends and have never been disappointed.
We were seated at a secluded corner table for two away from everyone, and just behind the entrance, therefore we did not get much of a feel of the ambiance. We ordered three starters and the beef special of the day, which were absolutely mouth-watering and delicious apart from one of the starters - the dumplings, which we were not too keen on as we tasted the overloaded sauce more than the actual dish. Service was excellent. If you are wine drinkers, be prepared to spend as the cheapest bottle is around $90 and can go up to $250 per bottle. All in all, a lovely meal, and compliments to the chef.
We were able to enjoy conversation since it was't packed, on a weeknight soon after the holidays. Very pleasant, delicious food and excellent service.
We went specifically for the 80 day aged ribeye and was not disappointed. Asked for the best wine to have with it and our server picked an awesome one, she was also super friendly and attentive (but not in a hovering annoying way) The food was cooked perfectly and we had so much leftover - I normally hate beets, but that horseradish and beet chutney was such a great pairing with the steak.
The place is super cute, we were out for a special occasion and it felt really intimate and special.
Overall very good. Be sure to check the diner menu versus lunch menu, quite different, in my opinion not a lot of options for dinner mains (not a bad thing eighter just mentionning). Everything we had was high quality (app/beer/wine and 2x mains) Not a cheap place so bring your $$ and you will have a great experience! Oh and the layout is quite outstanding.
Very friendly staff, prompt service that accommodated our tight timeline. Ordered 7-8 dishes and 6-7 were exceptional. Very happy with the experience overall. Definitely try the mushroom dumplings and Caesar salad!
Excellent service, innovative dishes, nice ambiance
Had a wonderful time at Fauna with my girlfriend. The food was exceptional and our server was very knowledgeable. The music and atmosphere was very relaxed and hip. Will be coming back for sure!
Overall a disappointment.
I made a reservation for our anniversary dinner and was planning on ordering the tasting menu. When we were seated we were informed that the tasting menu wasn't being offered since they were instead focusing on getting ready for their New Year's Eve dinner later in the month. (This was despite the menu that we were given that advertised both the tasting menu and the upcoming New Years Eve menu.)
We ended up ordering off of the a la cart menu. Generally speaking, the food was under-seasoned and bland. My wife commented on the lack of flavour and seasoning following a particularly disappointing dish. The server didn't seem concerned and responded that it was supposed to be bland and flavourless.
We may have just picked a bad night for dinner but we won't be returning.
Amazingly delicious hamburger
Great service and excellent options that accommodated my friend’s gluten free needs nicely.
The chef is always creative. The meal choices are unique and fabulous flavours. I’m an amateur cook myself and love the combinations. Every time we’ve been there it has been top notch. Thanks!
Took my fiancee to Fauna for her belated birthday, and what a great choice it was. The night started with celebratory bubbles on the house - a lovely touch that was greatly appreciated. Overall, the food was great, our server (Julien/Julian) was knowledgeable and had great recommendations, and the ambiance was perfect for a romantic dinner for two. Would highly recommend and can't wait to go back myself.
We’re visiting Ottawa and this place caught my eye on OpenTable. What a deliciously put together farm to table menu. Knowledgeable waiter on the huge wine selection (fairly pricey but tasty). We had the yellowtail which must be eaten with all the ingredients on the plate, beef cheek cooked to sublime perfection, and scallops so superbly smooth. Desert was the apple tartin, very well done. This has been our best dining experience in Canada in terms of flavours. Enjoy!
Service was great and the entire staff is wonderful and accommodating.
The food was unique and different in good ways. If you have a picky eater - this isn’t a place to take them. Unique and picky aren’t friends.
My only complaint was the wine list. It also was unique with small, low output vineyards (all organic) on the list. This meant all of the bottles were very expensive and not from places most would know well. The wine steward is knowledgeable and will help with a smile, however. All is not list there :).
We went to Fauna for our office Christmas dinner and all had the Chef's Plate. We were a party of 4 and each of the 5 courses was excellently prepared, served and executed. The wine pairing we chose worked well also. All in all, we all had an amazing experience and will certainly be back again.
Food took a while but was worth the wait! Wait staff was attentive and made excellent suggestions, always a favorite for date night
Brilliant. They went above and beyond to tailor a tasting menu to our food preferences/limitations. Everything was top notch - from the service to the presentation to the flavour combinations. It’s a little on the noisy side, so conversation had to become intimate as we leaned over to hear each other, but this was a minor distraction and did not take away from an amazing meal.
Every bite was absolutely divine! I loved everything about this place, the ambiance, the service, the cocktails, the wine, and most especially the food. Would highly recommend for a special occasion or even just a cocktail meet up over a shareable plate. It's a bit pricey but worth every dime.
Great, tasty and innovative small plates. Great input from staff on proper wine pairings
Everything was very nice. Food was excellent, service great but not easy to have a conversation because it was so noisy.
Came to Fauna on friend’s recommendation, backed up by a staff member at Chateau Laurier. Really fine food, creative and well presented. Knowledgeable waiter with solid wine recommendations. Would go vack when in Ottawa.
From the warm greeting at the door, through table service and our leaving, service was impeccable and well informed. Food was beautifully presented and ingredients were interesting and identifiable. It is wonderful to be able to taste what you are eating instead of having to rely on a menu to tell you what is on your plate. They also avoid one if my pet peeves, taking used cutlery off a plate that is being removed and placing it down on the table: not even thought if here. Fauna is a relaxed but sophisticated spot that deserves the reputation it has.
Food was very good, but a bit pricey for the plates we were served (blind tasting menu). The service was average. Was expecting more, but would try it again.
I went here for my birthday with a friend from out of town and it was an amazing experience. The food was delicious, and made with great care and attention. A great spot to head for a nice dinner for a special occasion.
Fauna has staying power! Some restaurants hit the market with fanfare, but after a couple of years, the fanfare seems to disappear and the experience becomes lacklustre. Not so with Fauna. I am not sure how many years they have been around (more than 5 I suspect) but the food and the experience, matched by a super ambiance and location, combine to give a great dining experience. I have been going there for many years now and continue to enjoy. Well done Fauna!
Fauna is great. The only downside was the lack of gluten-free dessert! Just seems odd to me that when even chain restaurants offer things that are "gluten-free" or "gluten-free friendly" to be in a nice restaurant that doesn't. This wasn't the first time this has happened to me when I have been a guest at Fauna.
