Das etwas andere italienische Restaurant Mele e Pere wurde von Peter Hughes und Andrea Mantovani (zuvor vom gefeierten Wild Honey) nach Soho in London gebracht. Von dem Moment an, in dem Sie ankommen und reihenweise Murano-Glasäpfel und -birnen im Fenster des Mele e Pere erblicken, wissen Sie, dass Ihnen... etwas ein wenig anderes bevorsteht - die Innenausstattung des Untergeschosses ist vollkommen anders als jedes italienische Restaurant, das Sie jemals betreten haben. Es ist mit Anglepoise-Lampen beleuchtet und mit kräftigen, abstrakten Kunstwerken dekoriert. Die Speisekarte besteht nur aus einer Handvoll gut gewählten, gewagten und überzeugten Gerichten aus ganz Italien; venezianischer Fisch, sizilianische Garnelen, herzhaftere Angebote mit rotem Fleisch sowie Kutteln aus Rom und dem Norden. Die Desserts, ebenso typisch italienisch, sind es wert, ein wenig Platz zu lassen: alles bis zum handgemachten Eis, das begeisterte Bewertungen selbst von den anspruchsvollsten Kritikern erhält.
