La Nacional has been feeding Spaniards and Latin Americans in New York since the 19th century from its historical brownstone in the heart of what was Little Spain. Our goal is to offer diners innovative cuisine, reasonable prices and a neighborhood atmosphere for everyone.The Restaurant at La Nacional is the catalyst for significant cultural and community programming that reflects the Society’s 150+ year-old mission. This includes free or low-cost apartments upstairs for artists-in-residence and opening our event space on the parlor floor to community events, cultural pursuits and charitable causes.

    The service was quick and the staff were very friendly. The Tod Mun Goong and Pad See Iew were great. We also ordered a pork belly special that was yummy and spicy. The happy hour margarita was nice and strong.

    The Public Theater has reinvented, rebranded, and renovated its restaurant “Library at the Public”. Moving forward, it will be known as ASTOR, which now has more tables (they have purposed the adjacent balcony space for dining, thus adding another 15-20 tables. There is also a new snack bar in the Public Theater lobby. It’s all successful and the “new” Astor still has charm, good service, and good food and drink choices. The wait staff is well trained and welcoming. The menu has limited choices (which is smart, since most diners also have theater tickets, this time is a key factor. Plus—and this is very important—there is no loud music or noise distracting from the dining experience. Dining at Astor is relaxing and quiet. Bravo!
