Left Bank Menlo Park
enjoyable, delicious food and drink
Always my favorite when I have guests from out of town.
What a disappointment. I had not been here in a long time and it's gone downhill. The service was horrible. Our waiter never came by to see how things were. That's too bad, because if he had, I would have told him that my grilled salmon was not grilled but more like sushi.
We were there at lunch hour and it was moderately busy, but not so much that he should have disappeared for over an hour. When we finally cornered him to take the plates away (yes, we had to ask for this), and to get us the check (took awhile for that as well), he never asked how everything was. Normally, I would have complained, but I was meeting with someone and didn't want to interrupt our conversation to go get the manager and find the waiter.
Definitely taking this one off the list.
The food was good but it arrived Luke warm and the wait staff did not seem the most hospitable based upon the age of my date and I
The food and service are quite good. Be aware that the noise level is VERY high so if you are looking for a dinner with enjoyable conversation, this may not fit. Extensive wine list, but be prepared to pay $10-15 dollars a glass for ordinary California wines. Parking is a challenge. Definitely worth trying once to see if it fits your dining interest. Access with wheelchairs and walkers is not easy.
A good dining experience but since we are a group of two 71ers and one 82er, the noise level is too loud and the tables are close together so people speak loudly to compensate for the noise level. We need a quieter restaurant...the two of us who are 71 are baby boomers (2nd year of the baby boom) so you will have more and more customers who want a quieter restaurant without the tables places so closely together.
Our food was overpriced and undercooked, and service was very slow even on a not terribly busy evening. Skip this particular establishment.
Great food and service!
Waiter and staff are great. Food was great. They were able to book the table at the window that we like.
We (11 of us) did our New Year's Eve Dinner at Left Bank Menlo Park last evening. It was a non-refundable reservation and we came with high expectations. I was surprised at how sloppy and rushed the service was. First, the waiters would not take orders, later they served the worst onion soup (they were cold), did not remember who ordered what and placed the wrong dishes in front of us. They ran out of the dessert choice we wanted (after they charged a fixed $75 per person for a 4 course meal). The good part I should add - the lamb and the oysters were great! Later at midnight, they refused to take an order for a bottle of wine and almost showed us the door. Very disappointing experience at such an upscale and respectable neighborhood.
Overall a great experience. They had a set menu and didn’t list prices on their items. This ended up causing confusion and put us in a strange situation when ordering.
We went for the four course New Years Eve dinner and it was fabulous in every way! I've never had such delicious amuse bouche anywhere else.
New Years Eve dinner was an absolute home run!! Fantastic 4 Course meal with added glass of champagne. Service was great and friendly. Will definitely be going back!
90 min to get entree delivered (order lost somewhere). Asked for filet without bernaise (when it finally arrived, it was all over the plate)...after that much waiting, just ate it as is. Waiter was nice and apologetic, but won't head back anytime soon.
The onion soup & potato leek soup were very good. “Tuna confit” was disappointing, server did not give an accurate description. Overall, we expected more flavors in our dishes—the omelette & mussels Florentine lacked flavor. My espresso was minuscule & cold.
Amazing service from our waiter this evening! Food was great, ambiance was pleasant. Perfect casual night out with my adult daughter.
The prices are really not that bad. They have the BEST fries and the rib eye for the steak frites was so soft and yummy. My boyfriend really loved the tartare. Definitely recommend!
Love Left Bank! Delicious food and reliable service every time.
Food was excellent. However, service was SLOW and uneven. Had a group of 5 for lunch from work, to which we needed to return. Almost 2 1/2 hours at restaurant. Felt ignored, hard to catch staff's eye, staff came by table and started to remove drink I hadn't finished, then came around with water and refilled only one person's glass. Another group in restaurant who arrived after us were served their meals by the time our orders were even taken. We had a reservation! Might go for dinner on weekend with a friend, but not again for lunch or with group.
French food, high quality, tastes excellent. If you want to try escargot they are excellent at this location. Food takes a little longer but well worth the wait. Almost like being in Paris.
We generally love this place and go there frequently. On this occasion we had a bar reservation. We were being shown to our bar area table when another hostess came up and said others were ahead of us. So hostess had us step back for a while. She then seated us in the main dining room. When we got our menus we found that it was a $60 three course menu. We asked to order off the bar menu but were told we could not and moved back to the bar where we waited for over 20 more minutes before a waiter attended to us. On the good note, food and drinks then came quickly and were good.
This was by far the worst experience I’ve had at the restaurant and possibly any restaurant. We went to celebrate our anniversary on Christmas Eve. From the start it was a very disappointing experience. Our reserved table was not ready when we arrived. Our waiter was inattentive. He got every aspect of our order either wrong or incomplete. Our drink order was not taken at all and we had to flag down someone to take it. My husband was not given proper cutlery for either his appetiser or his entree. Our drinks finally arrived after our first course had already been served. The entrees were late and incorrect. By this time we were worried we’d never get the right food so we didn’t complain. Instead of being grateful for our silence, the waiter came to our table and admonished us for taking n at me one else’s food. Dying desser, I had to ask three times for milk for my coffee and by the time it came, the coffee was cold. We never were given sugar for the coffee and my husband had to get up and ask for it at the bar.
Overall, it was a very disappointing Christmas Eve. I will not be returning to the Left Bank
This is the 5th year that our family has enjoyed a late lunch with you on Xmas eve! It is festive and welcoming every time. We had an especially fine server this time - previously we have even had the same waiter two years in a row! The only criticism of the food was that our Grandson's ham omelet was so small as to look lost on the plate. The mesclun uninspiring salad didn't interest him and one would think perhaps some embellishments could have been added. My favorite Onion Soup was its usual outstanding self and paired with half dozen fresh oysters was heaven!
Great for groups and families. Service is always excellent and staff is friendly and helpful.
This has really gone down hill! Used to be a great Bistro. We ordered escargot, oysters and pate to start. We were given no bread with the escargot and told that they had run out. A quarter of the oysters were inedible because the shells were cracked and needed to be sent back. The pate came with 1 toast point. The service was poor. It was on Sunday Dec 23rd. We waited so long that we skipped dessert. On the way to the car saw another cute Bistro next door and will go there next time!
The food was very good, the service great.
I usually award much higher marks but tonight was not stellar. The restaurant was understaffed and our server must have been new. Our food was not warm enough and, even our onion soup, was not hot. I appreciate that things are more difficult over the holidays but I expect more from Left Bank.
Food was amazing, service was ok. The French onion soup, fondue, and bread pudding will keep me coming back!
One of my favorite restaurants. We normally have Julio who is such a great server. Didn’t see him this time for lunch. Ther server we had was nice, got the oder in and served our lunch & then never came back to remove the plates or see how we were doing. The manager would walk by and glance at our table clearly he could see we were finished. I saw the manager serving food but not removing plates or checking to see how everything was.
Over all not more then an 'OK' restaurant.
Staff is untrained in the menu, lack the ability to describe what dishes are comprised of. From the receptionist down to the waiters, the team seem to lack basic polite customer-facing behavior.
A medium-well stake came in as dry as a sandal and when asked to be replaced, the waiter response was "I'll take it to the chef and he will decide".
Food quality and prep makes it seem that the kitchen crew doesn't enjoy their place of work. Everything lacks proper flavor, feels like it's been defrosted or heated or both. The amount of oil on everything, mostly on the escargot, would make a french chef and/or guest run out in tears.
Overall - low standards and huge disappointment :-(
Very disappointed. Food was just OK. Had to ask multiple times for coffee refills. Have had very good experiences in the past.
It was a little too noisey for our liking but the food was great.
Service was spotty and way too slow! But the food was delicious.
Reserved more than a week ahead for two birthdays and got a terrible table, thank goodness for a super waiter!
Trout was very salty. Green beans appeared to be boiled: over cooked and watery. My dining companion had duck which was good.
I’ve been here 4 times and honestly I just haven’t liked the food. I keep going back because I love the location, ambience, service but the food just isn’t good. I like the menu but nothing tastes excellent. Sorry, I want to love it but 4x is enough chances.
The food is always delicious. Our server is always phenomenal!
Excellent service and great food, nice ambience.
Even with reservation, they were not ready to seat us. Ended up with very small table in the middle of nowhere. Nice evening otherwise.
