We have been eating at The Peasant Cookery once or twice a year for the past couple decades and we have always enjoyed the food, until our recent experience on July 15, 2025. We enjoyed the fresh oysters and country pate as appetizers but our entrees were less than mediocre. My bison Bourguignon tasted good but the meal was lukewarm ( at best) and I did not enjoy the mashed potatoes; my wife’s tourtiere was very dry with gravy and a huge side of unappetizing mashed potatoes that looked and tasted like the dish had been warmed in a microwave and then left to sit on a counter for too long, so she did not finish eating the meal. The manager suggested she order another dish so she asked for the calamari…. It was the worst calamari she has ever tasted so she did not eat that dish either. Our server did an excellent job so we tipped him appropriately despite the bad food, and the manager refunded the total cost of the food and discounted the cost of the wine, which was appreciated. This was, by far, the worst food experience we have had in a restaurant. We’re thankful we weren’t celebrating a special occasion, or hosting friends for dinner!!

First time at Pleasant Cookery , we had the calamari for appetizer and for dinner wife had aged Cheddar Gnocchi and I had the Tourtiere and food was excellent. We had a attentive waiter and had excellent service and we would would come again for dinner and also informed our friends of your restaurant

Food was delicious with a varied & interesting menu. I've been there a few times and it was always good. We got a quiet corner and our waiter, James, went above and beyond. Very friendly and attentive with a good sense of humour, and stayed later while we were still talking.

Food was good. Entrée portions were very large. No complaints. Good value for the money. Interior was dated, booths and chairs super worn and falling apart, cracked walls, weird creepy bathroom hallway full of discarded chairs. Mild kitchen nightmares vibes.

It was our first time at Peasant Cookery and will not be our last! We had dinner there to celebrate my husband’s birthday; the service was great & the food was fantastic! Everything on the menu sounds amazing! Before we even left we were already talking about coming back! Highly recommend the crème brûlée cheesecake!

The server never checked on us once and forgot my mum’s jam she asked for once the food arrived. All of our eggs were over done, on a Benedict you’d hope for a soft poached egg but they were all hard. Skip their brunch and just go for dinner as that never seems to disappoint.

Shabby Chic or just plain shabby, not sure which they are trying to convey but dangerously close to shabby. Unfortunately, the Peasant Cookery fell very short of the hype and the multiple recommendations. Service was lack luster and the food was warm instead of hot. The old vinyl seats were all shedding and the tables were sticky. It wasn’t busy so the staff could have been more aware and attentive. We spent 5 days in Winnipeg, dining at many of the top rated restaurants and thought this would be the one to cap off our trip. Of all those visited, this was our least favourite. We won’t be sharing recommendations for Peasant.

The dinner was great. Ordered beef carpaccio comes table side with a smokey display delicious not overly smokey. Charcuterie was must pate a little to be desired. Spatzle was resplendent. Do not sleep on this. From the bar for an early drink the bar tender was an amazing host to the knowledge and care from the wait staff to the delicious meal from the chefs can't speak highly enough thank you.
