From the family that brought you Trattoria La Siciliana—a fixture of Berkeley’s Elmwood district for the past twenty years—Agrodolce is a sister restaurant located in the heart of Berkeley’s Gourmet Ghetto. Food was delicious, and wait staff are exceptional. They work well together, quickly, are friendly and responsive. Good sign that this restaurant is well run, from the top down.

Excellent food. I was happy to hear they had NA beer, but it was not refrigerated, unfortunately! I would definitely go back great ambience. The food came out a little slow but when it did, it was very hot.

I’ve been to Agrodolce many times and I always love it! Mainly for the food and wine of course, but their ambiance is special as well. It feels a little like you’re whisked out of Berkeley and into Sicily as you enter the building. They play a silent black and white movie on the far wall which sometimes grabs your attention. The service is usually very good, though this most recent visit they may have been short handed. I’ve always sat indoors but they have nice booth seating on the sidewalk now too, and even a guitarist on Friday evening. What do I like to eat? My favorite are the mushroom Ravioli Porcini Trifolati. But other good dishes are: Ragu di Maiale (papparadelle in red sauce with basil, sausage, and other meats), Branzino alla Brace (grilled sea bass with the fixings), Stino d’agnello (braised lamb shank), and Porchetta alla Brace Forno (braised pork shoulder and potatoes). The bread with spiced garlics and olive oil may be the best appetizer of all time, well if you like bread! I also enjoy the Caesar salad.

I hadn't been to Agrodolce for several years - maybe since Covid, and I would not go back again. My husband's meal was ok, but I did not like the fava bruschetta and my steak involtini were dry and overcooked, with an especially gooey cheese filling. There is never enough wait staff, in my experience, so the service is always spotty - eg, the waitress forgot our wine. The food was mediocre at best.

The food is good , always a tasty meal. The service is not very good. Either they are rushing to take your order, or disappear. I think it is a training issue. For example, we ordered a bottle of wine before our meal order and appetizers and then our food came. No wine! We had to remind our server two times about the wine. And our meals arrived at all different times. So my husbands meal sat on the table for 10 mins, while mine arrived later. Easy stuff to fix. Train your staff.

After doing a bit of research I chose the restaurant for a party of 11 people. A party this large is sometimes hard to accommodate—but not at Agrodolce. From the moment part of our party sat down we were attended to—-“would we like something to drink while you wait?” Yes! We chose a well priced bottle of wine and full bodies wine, the Sangiovese. Then the host came and explained that a good option for our party size might be to eat family style: food would be brought out at the same time for the table and we would be able to serve ourselves. For antipasto we enjoyed caprese salad with heirloom tomato and light burrata, arugula salad, and calamari fritti (one of my favs and everyone at the table agreed!). We also had the zucchini flowers. We then had three different pastas—all a delight but top two were the pesto with shrimp and my favorite the mushroom ravioli with cream sauce. We hardly had any room for the pork shoulder although quite tasty. The wait staff from the host to the servers were very attentive, food was delicious and just kept coming, and everyone loved the dinner! Without the cost of wine (not everyone drank) everyone contributed $60 for a fantastic dinner.
