   An extraordinary meal in an understated, relaxed restaurant. Every course was perfect from ingredients to preparation. I can't wait to dine here again.

   I have eaten here about 20 times in the past 1 1/2 years--always at lunch--and the service, food, and ambiance have consistently been outstanding. Their Prix fixe lunch is outstanding, the bread plate is creative and delicious, the appetizers have consistently been appealing to myself and colleagues. If you are looking for a sophisticated, upmarket, creative cuisine in midtown, this is an excellent choice.

   I enjoyed a pleasant evening at Avena despite dining alone. I thought $120 for a salad, pasta, tiramisu and one glass of wine was a little too much, but the house made pasta and tiramisu were really very good. Despite the artichoke and avocado salad being too acidic (on the tasting menu a smaller portion is sweetened with pear, I noticed), overall the food was the star. Staff were good, too, although there appeared to be a little tension and smiles were largely absent. I’d like to return.

   The food was good and the staff was very nice, but the service was unbearably slow. And we were one of the only tables seated at the time. I came here for my birthday dinner and it was a total disappointment. They sat us upstairs and then completely ignored us. Several times, we had to go hunt someone down to help us. We were dying to get out of there by the end--even paying the check took forever!

   Truly outstanding meal at Avena on Sunday night. It was a special occasion, as we brought our sons to NYC for their first-ever Broadway show. After the 3:00 performance we settled into a genuinely exceptional dining experience at Avena. It was exciting to follow up a performance like Hamilton with such a memorable meal. The warm and welcoming ambience had understated classiness without being fussy. The service was gracious and attentive, and the food was creative, delicious, and lovely to look at without being precious. New York prices are higher than Boston's, but we felt that it was worth every penny. That is not an easy goal to fulfill. Thank you, Avena!

   Avena is absolutely one of my favorite restaurants. Very refined but not fussy, very satisfying, beautifully presented. Everything from appetizers to desserts is fantastic. Good wine list and well crafted mixed drinks too.

   Remarkable food. Foie gras and suckling pig are both nicely prepared. Quail egg yolk ravioli is a bliss. Very good value for the moderately high price.
