Bar Vendetta distinguishes itself in a space that had previously been a fairly iconic restaurant, The Black Hoof, with a beautiful (and imposing) Douglas fir ‘glass canopy’ and a completely different, 70s colour scheme, modelled (very loosely) on Jen's teen basement bedroom in Scarborough. Nothing says 70s like brown, orange and cream! We didn’t want it to scream ‘Italian restaurant’ because frankly it’s only Italian-ish, using the philosophies of Italian cooking with locally available ingredients and a strong devotion to seasonality. Our pastas all made in house, by long-time chef, Annalisa Latavo and our front of house team is simply a dream! The sort of secret treehouse-feeling back patio is hugely popular in the summer, but we think of it as the perfect restaurant for a colder evening, cozy for tucking into a beautiful plate of pasta, with one of your favourite songs playing while you have a very nice Italian red.

Our waiter, who was good apparently ended his shift and left for the night. All good, but he never did say, I am done and now X would be taking care of you. I can’t imagine any waiter leaving his table open without passing it on to someone else. We literally waited 30 minutes before I was able to get the attention of one of the 7 staff, who were busy in their group conversation to inquire about our waiter. The response was that our waiter left and ‘I feel you’ as if they were doing me a favour. Not sure based on the staff experience I would recommend this lack of service restaurant to anyone. I can’t even imagine how it was given a mention in any Michellin guide. HORRIBLE!

I’ve been here several times and the food is always good and I generally like this place, but I have to say the server, while efficient, was cold and impersonal. There was no engagement whatsoever. I don’t necessarily expect my server to be ‘part of my evening’, but a little friendliness would not have been out of place.

Unfortunately, the food was disappointing; overly salty, with excessive cheese in every dish, and lacking the balance typical of good Italian cuisine. The saffron ice cream felt out of place and wasn’t enjoyable. To add, my main order was forgotten and arrived late. As someone who truly appreciates Italian food, I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.

Easily my favourite resto in Toronto. The food and ambience are impeccable, music is chef's kiss, and none of these are even the best part - every person who works there somehow happens to be the actual kindest human and an absolute wise sage of food and wine.

I’m usually not a picky eater but the food is so heavily salted. It was to a point where my last dish I had to ask for a sodium reduction because it was so much. Crudo was salty, firm tuna, burrata with strawberry was good but again heavy salt - I usually just have burrata with tomatoes or alone but I think this was made so we have to buy bread on the side or something (suggested by our waiter so we should’ve listen to get the bread, but no mention of salt level). The surf and Turf was so good and so is spaghetti with meatballs but I really just wish again just less salt. We ended up getting desserts elsewhere due to the food but service was 10/10.

We ordered some drinks, the cheesy bread, celery and fennel salad, the trecce and the tagliatelle. The cheesy bread was the highlight of the meal, but the fennel salad was a little sloppy with celery chopped too thick and way too much dressing, rendering the order soggy. The pastas were absolutely disappointing—the trecce had lamb pancetta, which was cut into such tiny little pieces, perhaps to mask how little of it was on the dish? The tagliatelle was soupy with little flavor. My friend and I didn't finish the meal and packaged it to go, but it tasted even worse the next day. The vibe was nice and the service was sweet. I wouldn't go back for dinner again, but curious to try more appetizers and drinks.
