Brawns is a small, intimate French Restaurant, located in the old quarter of Cowes town. Set in a Grade two listed Georgian building, sympathetically converted a few years ago. Charles Paul, owner and Chef, was trained in London, and having done a stage at the Fat Duck in Bray, went on to work for a high class restaurant in Cambridge. His inspiration for the food is to use high quality, fresh seasonal produce, locally sourced where possible. Diners will always find brasserie favourites on the a la carte menu, as well as some more modern offerings. The specials will change on a daily basis, to ensure there is something new to tempt you. Those looking for tasty food at excellent value can also choose from the set price midweek menu. The wine list will be small, but has been carefully chosen to compliment the food. Those on a budget will not be disappointed by the more affordable wines, as they have still been selected to impress.

Perhaps there's been a change of owner or chef, but not good. Too much emphasis on the colour on the plate and no attention to the flavours or combinations. Tables sticky and staff although very sweet, were not on the ball. What a shame, we used to love going there

We enjoyed our meal at Brawns, the food was delicious good combination of flavours and the service was very good and friendly.

Almost michelin star food. Very good but i'm sure the sommelier was on something! Also half an hour wait between main course and desert. Needs more than one loo.

A sleepy Saturday lunch time in West Cowes isle of Wight - we were the only customers and were made to feel very welcome - they opened the restaurant especially for our booking - we loved the food all was excellently prepared and will come back

We had dinner on a short visit to IoW at Brawns and were delighted with our reception and the attentiveness of our waiter, Fraser. We are vegetarians so were initially dismayed to find no choice of a main course but Fraser had a word with Charlie, chef and owner, and we were offered an alternative to the risotto. When I see risotto offered as the veggie dish I am filled with dismay; it usually heralds some grey soggy mushroom mishmash with subtext of 'chef hates vegetarians so eat this' Not here, it was gorgeous. My husband had it and I was offered a variation of a meat dish without the meat. Also really tasty. I think Brawn (notwithstanding the butcher's heritage) is missing a trick in not offering more vegetarian options as another customer came in while we were there, asking for veggie and I head him sigh 'Only one option..'. After all, even carnivores like a change now and again, and with cooking this good you would soon build up a reputation.

First time visit for dinner on a wet Thursday in November. Lovely interior, warm and inviting. Young man (Fraser we believe) at front of house, friendly and welcoming. Not a large menu or huge portions which indicated to us the chef owner was confident in the dishes he prepares, and so it proved. Excellent presentation and taste. Outstanding dinner and in my opinion one of the top three restaurants in Cowes, offering something different and original.

Great friendly service, a fab find, we had a great evening, good wine choice on the menu and the food menu is just right too. Portions could have been larger, but that was because it was so good!!

Our second visit since the restaurant has been run by the excellent Charles Paul. The food was as good as expected & we were well looked after despite the restaurant being nearly full. Just one slight disappointment, which was there was no main fish dish on the menu, only lobster, which at £30 made the bill much higher than it might have been.

Due to a series of unfortunate issues we were really late arriving on a Tuesday night for our meal but both the chef / proprietor and front of house staff were remarkably patient and ensured that we weren't hurried or made to feel pressured, even though it tested the boundaries of their opening hours. The food was also very good, we had guests over from Norway and Sweden and both had eaten really appalling lunches the other side of the Solent so thank you Brawns for proving that we can serve a good plate of food!
